I've added the network path where SWF an XML file resides to "trusted locations" via Flash Player Global Settings.
The added network path is successfully displayed at the list of "trusted locations" within Global Settings Manager, but it does not look like Flash Player is able to really parse the local network path as a "trusted location"

Can't Connect To FMS Inside Of Local Network
Jul 26, 2010I'm FMS beginner (server side newbie in general)... I installed FMS 3.5 (Development) on my computer which is inside of local network. Now I try to connect to rtmp service from another machine in same network using my computer's IP as I used to while connecting to my apache, but it is worthless. Everything works fine on my computer.

Mar 18, 2011I have a problem with FMS 3.5 installed on Windows 7. The problem is that FMS works only on my local machine, I am not able to use it from computers in local network. I turned off all windows firewalls and my machine is visible for other computers - I am able to connect to FMS Welcome site on apache on default port 8134, but streaming fails, and I cannot do the same on port 80.

Jul 27, 2009The reason Ordinarily I would just host everything on the server, the swf file and images and serve them out using something like apache. However, we're working with an embedded device with hardware limitations. So we thought we could avoid this by hosting the images locally on a cd.But Flash player moans about the security settings. I know a way to overcome this would be to give the user instructions to change the global security settings- hence allowing both network and local access. But we feel that this would be too much to expect the end user to do.We want our model to work out of the box so to speak. Or as best as possible.

Here is the situation:
I have an SWF which runs locally on the client's machine.
It communicates, via XML socket, to a C++ server.
It also needs to read some configuration files from the local file system...
c:config.xml <---> test.swf <---> C++ server
So I need the SWF to be fully trusted, as if it was ran from the Flash IDE.But I can't tell my clients to set it to be fully trusted using Adobe's Global Security Settings Panel
What I can do is alter my C++ server code, somehow granting permissions to the SWF.
Flex :: Accessing Video Content Over Local Network?
Jun 17, 2011I am having a strange issue in my flex app. I have a Video element that loads an FLV file from the same directory as the SWF app. If I move my SWF and FLV to a local directory on my computer and load the SWF in my browser, the video plays without any issues. However, if I move the same collection of files (SWF, FLV, HTML) to a network share, the video no longer loads.

In my netStatusHandler() callback I get an event status of: NetStream.Play.StreamNotFound.
Again, I only have this issue when loading content from a network share.

Aug 24, 2011I try to load a file over the local network with Loader Class but I get the error "URL Not Found". I use a path like this "file://///myPCnetID/pubilcFolder/pictures/mypic.jpg" which refers to a folder on the same PC I compile and run the Air flash file.
When I copy the adress into the browser the jpg-file ist displayed corretly.

Nov 2, 2009I am creating a web page that allows users to upload their own swf files to my web page, which are then used by the main web page as components. This creates a security issue though because I don't want the uploaded swf files to access other files on the server.
when the main webpage starts, it loads whatever third party swf files the user specifies. Is there a way for my main web page to change the security settings of the loaded swf so that the loaded swf is treated like it was loaded from another domain? Or is there another way I can provent these uploaded swfs from accessing local files on the server.

Sep 16, 2010I've been fooling with this problem since AS2.0 (and shared Objects) and I'm not much closer to solving it, partly because every article I read on it is focused on php and server-side stuff that doesn't apply. How to load a String Array from a txt file in local user space (the folder from which the .swf is run). What I need to know: The easiest way for the user to save/load a file. The file has to contain Objects and Arrays reflecting his current status in the game. The goal is to avoid non-Flash apps and languages, and external Classes if possible (I do everything right in the main fla). I don't mind that the user has to initiate and approve the upload/download.

May 23, 2010I'm running macromedia flash mx, and I'm trying to make a linkable swf by following this procedure: I select the object and then convert it to symbol. Then I choose " button " Right click at the object---> actions ---->[+]--->browser/network ----> getURL. I type my url and choose 'self" target.
When I test movie the hand symbol appears at first, but when clicked it turns to arrow. Exactly the same happends when I appload the swf and of course there's no link ...

Feb 24, 2010I created a simple interface for our laptop users to use to call files to change internet settings. Most of the files are batch files but I have one .exe and two registry setting files that change proxy settings. I want buttons that will call each file when clicked. Seems simple but I have been trying to figure this out and I'm getting no where. I'm attaching my flash file. It's a flash cs4 file. Can I not attach the script to each button? For some reason I thought I used to do it this way but when I highlight it it says I cannot attach script to the object.

One application JEE / Flex 4 running on a tomcat, inside my Flex layer I have a iFrame passing a url to an ip of my internal network (http:url....) which is another application running within an industrial PLC.When access this app from within my internal network works fine, but when I try to access this iFrame to an external network in my home for example have a timeout error onhttp:[url].........
I believe this error occurs because the flex client is trying to run this url as I was in a internal network.Is there any way to run this url from an external network?

Likewise, I load the saved model using the SharedObject instance. Works great.Ultimately, I'd like to serialize it to a file - which fails. Here is how:

The complementing read operation suddenly breaks and reports missing bytes.In fact, I can't image how FileStream / _model.writeExternal() is able to serialize, since it needs to somehow know, that a new serialization operation is about to start. If it doesn't know, it won't be able to determine, which object instances are left to serialize.Thus, I image that my concept is completely wrong or I missed how to initialize the serialization operation.I'd be happy to read the raw ByteArray from the shared object and write it to a file. Unfortunately, I didn't find a method to retrieve from a SharedObject a ByteArray of a certain property, in my case mySo.data.model.My question is loosely related to this one: Why does delete( DictionaryInstance[ key ] ); fail?
ActionScript 3.0 :: Button Error Only On School Network?
Jan 14, 2011I'd created an interactive quizz that worked great [URL] Then I decided to spruce up the background and add a "title slide" [URL] Both ran great on my home computer, but the second version bugs out on the school's computers! Everything seems fine until you try to advance past frame 2 using the "next question" button, and although you see the button's over and down states, the slide never advances. I only changed one line of code between the two examples, the one declaring the slide number variable, and the logic must be correct as everything runs great on my machine at home! Both machines are running IE7 and have Flash player 10 installed. Do you know of any issues with network compatibility that I may have overlooked? As I don't have CS5 on the machines at school, I can't run the .fla files directly for debugging, so I don't know what to do to locate the error.

I don't get this error when I embed the XML file directly with the EMBED metadata tag.

Apr 20, 2011I've been building an AIR application in AS3 which includes a number of drawing tools, allowing the user to annotate a page with freehand drawings, lines, text etc. I'm almost done and everything tests well on my dev computer but testing on an old XP machine crashed every time I tried to print. Eventually I realised this was due to a mass of data being sent to the printer which that poor old XP machine just couldn't handle. All I'm doing is creating a new printJob with printAsBitmap set to true, and using addPage to add the MC I want to print.
When I look at the windows print jobs dialog I see it's sending 1.68Gb of data to the print spooler! I figured that there must be too much in the MC so I create a bitmapData of the same size and copy it to a bitmap, then add that to a blank MC and send that to the printer - same problem! The MC is 2480x3508 which equates to 300dpi on A4 paper. By my calculations that should be a bitmap of around 33Mb, so where is all the other data coming from.

Mar 7, 2008Ok, this is a function that used to work...so I didn't check it for a while...and I did not edit it from when it was working in any way...but now the print function does not produce a page from the printer...when I click "Print View" the print dialog box comes up, and I can choose my printer, and when I click ok, there is a tooltip near the windows clock that says document sent to printer, but the printer never does anything...I have tested this in several printers and several computers...I have also tried to output to a pdf...and it allows me to choose a file name to save to but it never creates the file...

Jan 4, 2008I want to make an offline desktop app. that stores my company's customers and their data in an XML file, just like a database. so that I'm able to load, edit (create new customers, add to their data) and save it into the XML file which is stored locally. i then want to make a Local Connection to the XML file somehow, so that others in the company can do the same from their PC.. Can anybody tell me if this is possible at all? (making a flash app that writes XML files to any location on a PC that only has network.. edit XML files through Local connection function in flash).
