ActionScript 3.0 :: How To Make Button Call Local Batch File
Feb 24, 2010
I created a simple interface for our laptop users to use to call files to change internet settings. Most of the files are batch files but I have one .exe and two registry setting files that change proxy settings. I want buttons that will call each file when clicked. Seems simple but I have been trying to figure this out and I'm getting no where. I'm attaching my flash file. It's a flash cs4 file. Can I not attach the script to each button? For some reason I thought I used to do it this way but when I highlight it it says I cannot attach script to the object.

[Code]....
now I've a problem that the function in button click is not being recognized. It says "call to a possibly undefined function" even though it was defined. What is wrong with this? How do i make a button in a grid call a function in the same mxml file??

I am trying to create Flash video for usb drives sold to customers with their pictures on it. After the video plays, can I have a link to a local folder, IE: named YOUR_IMAGES on the drive, and have that folder open on their machine when clicked? Or is there to many variables with what what the drive letter name that will be assigned on customers machines? So there will be the same .SWF on every drive sold, then a folder named the same thing with the customer pics on it.

I want to make an offline desktop app. that stores my company's customers and their data in an XML file, just like a database. so that I'm able to load, edit (create new customers, add to their data) and save it into the XML file which is stored locally. i then want to make a Local Connection to the XML file somehow, so that others in the company can do the same from their PC.. Can anybody tell me if this is possible at all? (making a flash app that writes XML files to any location on a PC that only has network.. edit XML files through Local connection function in flash).

I have been asking a fair number of questions here recently and have been very pleased with the responses, so here is one more for you. Hopefully I can get another solution. :]
I have a flash project acting like a menu and being published as an .exe (projector). In this file, I have a button with the following code:button1.onRelease=function(){fscommand("exec", "openfiles.bat");}
I have an fscommand folder (in the same directory as my flash file) which contains the openfiles.bat, with one line: start myfile.txt
myfile.txt is also located in the fscommand folder. When I simply click on this batch file and run it, the text file opens as it should. However, when I click the button in my flash file, a command prompt window flashes too quickly to see with some sort of error message. It says something about not finding a certain directory and defaulting to the windows directory. I'm assuming it cannot find either my batch file or my text file. I am under the impression that as long as everything is in the fscommand folder it should work properly.

I know you can run a .bat file through flash , but can you "load" a variable from a text box in flash ( for example a URL ) to a .bat , and then run the batch file ? have an input box in flash , enter a URL , and then , through a batch file , open this URL in multiple browsers.

my friend and I are trying to make a GUI for a CD that autoruns when you pop it in your computer. Now my friend can write the batch files to autorun the swf, but i guess what I'm actually asking is how to run programs or batch files from flash by clicking on a button. We tried just useing the getURL AS to link it but it doesn't run it (kinnda makes sense now...).

By the way, i want to have a button and a label on a flash form, when the user clicks on this button the onclick event will call another function 'setText for example' this setText() function will change the label text. So i think the code will be something like this:

I'm building a game in which I have different player objects which will behave differently. I want to make a player(i call it professor) class held in an external .as file. I need to be able to assign onEnterFrame attributes in for this class in the external .as file and I'm encountering some difficulties. here is my .as file
//professor constructor
_global.Professor = function ( skin, thrust, decay, maxSpeed )
{
this.skin = skin;
[code]...
The constructor is working fine, along witht he getSkin function, but I can't get the onEnterFrame function to work. It is my understanding that once I instantiate an instance of the Professor class that the onEnterFrame function should kick over and start sending my trace statement to the debugger at the current frame rate.
ps. here is the code in my .fla
#include "Professor.as"
playerOne = new Professor("mathews");
playerOne.getSkin();

I have 3 Flash banners on 1 page that run through a synched animation together. At the end of the animation, there is a replay button in each of the 3 banners. I want the replay button when clicked in any of the banners to call a replay function in all 3 banners. Is there any easy way to do this? Using localconnection?
The banners are already using a local connection for the syching of the animation, if that helps.

I have a HTML box and load a local html file from the project. In this HTML file I use jquery and I want to load an image from my user directory. I see the image from my user directory but jquery doesn't works. I get this error:
[Code]...
But if I load an image from the app workspace, everything works fine (I see the image and Jquery works). Is this a policy problem? The error says that is a "null object reference" problem, but this can't be true...

I don't get this error when I embed the XML file directly with the EMBED metadata tag.

I have a html page on my c drive (it will not be hosted online, ever) which embeds a swf from a server, with swfObject, allowScripAccess is true. I need that swf to invoke some calls to the html's js funcitons. I get an error stating [code]...
I know i can solve it by going to settings mamager and adding my C to my "trusted sites".... I, however, need a different solution, that does not involve tweeking settings manager. Tried adding a crossdomain to the root of the directory on my comp, with no luck - im assuming for crossdomain to work it must be hosted on a server - and my local directory is not a server, and cannot be one ( no localhost is allowed as per requirement).

UrL...in the example each button attempts to contact a php script and the result is displayed in flash.if the php file is not available on the server (ie: server could be down or the file doesn't exist) shouldnt an ioerror be thrown.The frustrating thing is the ioerror gets thrown if you are using DATAFORMAT.TEXT but not when you are using DATAFORMAT.VARIABLES (i didnt try BINARY)Shouldn't an ioerror be thrown regardless of which DATAFORMAT type you are using?That's what happens when you run the file locally. Why doesn't this happen when it's deployed on a server?The error that gets thrown on the server (and you will see if you are running the debugger version of flash player) is the 2101 error:Error: Error #2101: The String passed to URLVariables.decode() must be a URL-encoded query string containing name/value pairs.This makes (some) sense cause is seems the loader in flash is getting a response (from a file that is not on the server) but the response is not in a valid format.
Checking the httpStatus is of no help either as it is 0 in all cases whether the file exists or not.Does this sound like a bug or is there something I am missing? Perhaps some way to catch the 2101 error i have tried but without success.the source (cs3 just to be safe) is available at the link below if you want to see/test for yourself. DOWNLOAD SOURCE

I'm having trouble simulating a click call to a button(displayObject) thats generated via an API call( youtube as3 API). I have not seen any mention of security reasons as to why I can not simulate a click as long as something is registered with a click handler. Basically I checked to make sure the button made is listening to a mouse click event with:
trace(generatedButton.hasEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK)) which returns true
I proceed to than call this:
generatedButton.dispatchEvent( new MouseEvent(MouseEvent.CLICK, true) );
And nothing happens yet if I physically click the button it works. Is there some security measure that prevents something from being fake clicked unless its origin is strictly from the system mouse?
I even set a timeout call on the click function and moved my cursor over the button and let it fire in case it was an issue of the mouse having to over the object but still nothing. I am kind of stumped at this point.
