ActionScript 2.0 :: Making A Little Progress But Stuck On The Text Boxes
Aug 9, 2009
I am making a little progress but stuck on the Text boxes. I know it may be a very simple thing but I want to get it right this time. So In my game I created a dynamic text box. I set the varname to dtext. I am able to make words come up upon doing certain events, such as clicking a circle it will say you clicked a circle. But I want it to be a timer so after say 5 seconds the dtext reverts back to blank.
If you know a better way for text boxes such as the .text script teach me about it. Iam looking for an easy way to do this. If you need more information such as type of game just let me know and I will try to answer. so when I click things in room I want text to show up but vanish after 5 seconds so it doesn't stay on screen forever.
Is it possible to make dynamic text boxes display only full words from an xml feed? At the moment I have a selection of feeds that are supposed to run into each other, but if some of the text is longer than expected I get the first one or two characters of a word tagged on at the end. Is it possible to have the flash read whether it has character space left to display the next word in the xml?
I know it doesn't really recognise spaces etc and just pulls in the info within the node, but maybe there's a work-around if you want to do what I'm trying?
My file contains a moving flame that I want to keep moving.
The preloader file has 3 versions and I'm trying to use the 'show progress bar' version. Ive tried EVERYTHING! I'm so stuck! Here is a link to download my files since they are too big for this forum. [url]...
i have been making some little animated icons and I have gotten stuck on one in particular.I think I have attached an image of it here. What I want to do is start off with a solid red triangle and animate it being sucked or beamed up into the spaceship, as you see in the picture.I want it to look kind of like the triangle is dissolving into little particles which are being sucked into the spaceship
how to duplicate boxes, so they appear in a tiled format . I don't have much clue at the moment apart from having 2 'for' loops which will assign the boxes their own positions; however this doesn't make the boxes appear one by one,
I have 4 dynamic text boxes which duplicates the text from a main input text box. How do I write a code to make visible only the dynamic text box I want when clicked it's check box.What is the CODE to make each "DYNAMIC TEXTBOX" visible when clicked on it's checkbox?
I have a movie which is serving as a button.When you rollover the image, it grows, and stops.When you rollOut, it shrinks, and stops.This code works fine. The Problem:When you scroll the mouse over quickly, the animation get stuck and doesn't execute the rollOut code.This is most likely because the first rollOver action hasn't yet completed.Here's my code:
I was wondering if it's possible to have a dynamic text box that can change sizes, without distorting the text displayed in it... I would also like to set it up dynamically.
I use .txt files a lot with flash to load external news and updates. Although you can use the loadVariablesNum() command to load the .txt files is there anyway to edit and save the external files in flash? e.g. say I have a text box and a submit button in flash is there some way where I can add the text boxes content to a .txt file?
I purchased Flash CS4 (Adobe probably laughed at me, saying "SUUUCCKKKERR"). I'm having a serious problem with some of the panels randomly freezing. Mainly, when I edit ANY text on the stage, or in a movieclip, the text tool panel will freeze up the properties, and I cannot bring up any other object's properties. I have to CLOSE Flash CS4 completely. I've tried to simply close the project, then reopen it, but the text panel gets stuck on EVERY project I open, until I completely close down Flash CS4.
I cannot find any solutions to this problem through Adobe, and apparently Adobe doesn't provide support to me because I purchased Flash CS4 from a reseller..... (NICE).
Needless to say, I knew Flash would go downhill the second that Adobe bought out Macromedia. Adobe basically takes something really well made, cuts it up and bloats it out to create something almost unuseable. Sound familiar? (*cough microsoft)
! I just did the Kirupa XML tutorial (for Flash MX) and ... I actually understand! But now I need to change a few things.. and I haven't got a clue. Right now, I know how to import text from an XML file into different text boxes. But, what I need to do, is be able to import text regardless of how many text boxes my FLA file has.
The code I'm building creates two MovieClips on the stage, in one it instantiates several text boxes and in the other some buttons.
What I can't do is access data from the text boxes (e.g. textField.text) for use in the functions called by the eventListeners attached the buttons. I had the system all working nicely before I placed the text boxes and the buttons on separate movie clips.but this structure makes it much tidier to refresh the text I'm using.The button functions are fine with variables created prior to the building of the text boxes.
Am I failing to address the text boxes correctly (because they're on another movie clip) or is there a stage / movie clip property I need to set so they can see each other ... or is this something else altogether?Could it be that the buttons are created before the text boxes?
I have a dynamic text box and 5 MCs that trigger eachother in turn. The end of MC1 would then trigger the start of MC2 so they go round in a loop. Each image fade tells a dynamic text box to say something different about that image.But one bit of text causes the text box to stay STUCK and display only that text from then on. It got so frustrating that I had to create a fresh dynamic text box for each corresponding MC... but then I realised that when we finally loop back from MC5 to MC1, it wants to again display the stuck text!Get file here.Stuck text is "Monitoring Migration Routes and Settlements" - notice it when the whole movie loops back to the start.I made a little green box appear just to prove that the offending MC had actually stopped and wasn't looping somehow.
Is it possible to tell a text box to auto fit to its text? What I mean is that when i change the size of a font to something smaller the text box remains its old large self. This is a problem because when I want to align this text with several other text boxes that have gone through similar treatment, the alignment will take into account the full box size rather than just the text.
So basically I have to go and manually shorten each text box. Which is a pain when you have to deal with a lot of text. Is there a script or button/option I'm not aware of that will auto fit the box constantly?
I want to parse the data from an XML file into an array and then put each of the values in the array into a dynamic text box on the stage. The text boxes are name "number1_txt", "number2_txt" &c.I have managed to set up a loop to parse the XML into my array and also to generate the names of the text boxes dynamically but I can't get the values from the array to display in the text boxes!
function parseXMLNumbers(doc:XML):Void { temp = new Array(); for (a=0; a<doc.firstChild.childNodes.length; a++) {
I have: Input text box Dynamic text box What's the code and where do i put it, so when entering a value to the input text, the dynamic will show the amount multiplied by 20?
I have a INPUT TEXT inside a mc called "txt mc" and DYNAMIC TEXT in the main time line.I'm trying to display what's typed in the INPUT TEXT (my_Input_Txt) in the DYNAMIC TEXT boxes (my_Dyn_Txt1, my_Dyn_Txt2, my_Dyn_Txt3).Here's the code. But it won't simply work perhaps because the INPUT TEXT is inside a MC. I need to have the INPUT TEXT INSIDE THAT MC while having the DYNAMIC TEXT boxes out in the main time line.
Firstly, I am using a TextField object of type input as the text input area of the text editor. So I am wondering, in your opinion, what would work best for formatting the text in this field?[code]...
Remember the text will always be changing at the user's whim in the movie, and I am looking for simplicity in applying certain styles to only selected portions of the input text and also setting styles for all future text that is input beyond what is already input (Could be a different style than that of the text already input)
Secondly, I am having a little trouble with the TextFormat Object option. I have a textfield, and a toolbar movieclip (with buttons such as bold, underline, italics, etc) on my stage. I am writing an actionscript class for the toolbar. I want to be able to capture the start index and end index of highlighted text in the textbox, so that say when I press the bold button, the text is bolded or unbolded. I have tried using Selection.getStartIndex() and Selection.getEndIndex() but they have not yet worked for me, as the selection loses focus when I click on the toolbar in the movie. I was hoping there was some sort of onHighlightText handler for the Selection class, so that I can capture the start and end indices whenever text is highlighted. However, there appears to be nothing with that functionality.
I'm making a program that draws a grid of boxes and the color of the box must be different to those adjacent to the box. My code compares the current box's color to those to the left and top. If any of them matches, it picks another random number (as the color). For the tiles on the first row/column, I make my grid's array indexes with negative numbers -1 so that it will not match.
What I have:
private function fillArray():void { grid = new Array(); grid[-1] = new Array(-1,-1,-1,-1,-1); //paddles the grid[-1][0 to 4] with -1 for (var i = 0; i < HEIGHT; i++) {
I have an SWF movie (1375 frames) and created a progress bar (248px wide) with a slider that moves according to the movie progress. I'm doing that next way:Calculating the distance for the slider to be moved each frame (248 / 1375) On each ENTER_FRAME moving the slider for the calculated distance The problem is - the movie ends far before the slider reaches the end of the progress bar.
I'm thinking that the distance (Step 1) is is somehow ends floored by Flash and the actual distance it moves the slider is smaller than required. That's why the movie ends, but the timeline control just passed the 2/3 of its way. My question is - is there any solution for the problem? Or any other way to go, if it's a wrong one?
I have a text input field. When I press on it I'd like something to happen. But it doesn't seem like I can target the input field like this.
myTextInputFieldName.onPress = function { do something }
I tried putting it inside another movieclip (which I can target), but then the text input cursor goes away and I can no longer access the input text box. I know there is probably a simple solution but I can't figure it out.
I want to control 2 Dynamic Text boxes with the same scroll bar component? I want them to scroll simultaneously with the user only needing to use the one component.
I've been staring at this code for hours.... I have a xml docthat contains football scores that will load into my flashscoreboard. If the game has been postponed, there's a node calledstatus that is populated with the info, otherwise this node isblank. My function sets the visibility property of status1_txt tofalse if there is nothing in that node (undefined), otherwise itdisplays the data that is there. If the first node is undefined, itwill start out blank, the way it's supposed to. But the minute itpulls data into that text box, it doesn't go away until there'sother data to replace it. Seems like it's ignoring the first partof my if statement.
I have 2 text boxes in my scene and I want to be able to scroll both of them individually. I tried using the scrollbar component but I can only get it working on 1 text box. I tried changing the linkage. Can somebody send me a link to an example of how to get this to work?
I want to control 2 Dynamic Text boxs with the 1 scroll bar component? I want them to scroll simultaneously with the user only needing to use the one component.
I have 4 text boxes on a frame. My goal is to have them put numbers in the text boxes. I need to be able to show whether or not what they put in was correct. I have 4 input boxes and 4 dynamic boxes set up. I figured I could put code that says, "if >1 then "incorrect" shows up....if =1 then 'correct" shows up...that type of deal...Ultimately after I show whether or not they're correct...to go to the next frame/frame name...
I'm trying to get a Twitter API to work. I've managed to code most of it, however I still cannot seem to add additional necessary text boxes which will be used for the Twitter feed. I've managed to do one, but have not figured out how to do more than one, as I'm bombarded with errors when I do try. So here's the code below, I need 3 more text boxes to be used for tweet_2, 3 and 4 definitions.[code]...
