ActionScript 2.0 :: Passing The Value Of An Attribute To A _global Variable
Aug 23, 2007
I need to pass the value of a attribute to a _global variable that can be accessed somewhere else in the movie.But it traces as undefined outside of onLoad.
eg.FRAME ONE
ActionScript Code:
var xml:XML = new XML();
xml.ignoreWhite = true;
I have a swf page where the external swf will load, there is any way to declare variables who work in all swf. What I am trying to do is: like a switch, with several options in which all these are listed in the main swf
through out a very old complicated fla there are buttons which set variables using _global paths
such as:
function menu1_2(Event:MouseEvent) { global.mode = "hide_hotbox"; MovieClip(this).gotoAndStop("stage_1_b"); }
How can I make the variable "hide_hotbox" and others like it accessible and changeable from any movie clip -- whether they be nested in other movie clips or on the main timeline, etc?
I'm getting frustrating Why in Gods name this example doesn work???kirupa2 loads kirupa1 in which is _gloal variable setup (_global._myVariable = "XYZ")After clicking on PLAY button trace outcome is undefined
I have recently started making (and am still making) the transition from ActionScript 2 to 3. I have used the _global variable in an AS2 project as I needed a variable to be accessible from within ANY swf loaded into my main movie. This worked like a treat.
However, along came AS3 and whipped that from right under my feet. After much Googling, a few people suggested making use of a simple class with a simple variable that can be publicly set and retrieved. I made a simple class, imported it and manipulated the value, and all went well, however the instance of the class I create in my main loader movie is still not accessible from within a second SWF that gets loaded into my movie. If I re-instantiate the class in the SWF that is being dynamically loaded, the value reverts to the default value in the class code, not the new value set in my parent (first) movie.
Here is my class code, stored in an external .as file, is there any way I can simulate the ostype variable being a global variable?
package{ public class ostype { public var ismac:Boolean = false;
[code]....
it's used as a simple identifier as to what operating system this flash app is being used on (mac or windows) and as a result let's me server content - such as saving files - in a different manner.
I was wondering how I might change this to a "local" function instead of "_global". I've been trying, but my syntax is either screwed up or just just plain doesn't work.
How do you set a variable attribute of a xml element?This is what I expected to work:xmlElement.attribute(variableAttr) = "the variable attribute is set to this string";
However, I'm getting some error that this value can only be retrieved as a reference and not set.Ofcourse, the following does not work either as it will look for the attribute named "variableAttr" and not for the attribute named after the value of the variable variableAttr:
I have an XML file loaded at run time.Among others, it contains several nodes which contain a name attribute and a value attribute.I want to be able to select name by value and vice versa.If I try and trace out a name by selecting its value, I get exactly what I expected:
[AS] trace( "NAME: " + SiteModel.instance.constants.(@value==section).@na me ); [/AS]
But, and this is what I've been screaming at for most of the morning,if I try and assign that name to a variable, and trace the variable, I get epic fail:
[AS] var n:String = SiteModel.instance.constants.(@value==section).@na me; trace( "NAME: " + n ); [/AS]
Trying to trace that variable results in a TypeError:
Code: TypeError: Error #1010: A term is undefined and has no properties.This is stupifyingly ridiculous in my opinion,
If I execute the code below in FlashBuilder, I get the following error (I translate it) TypeError: Error #1009: Access to an Attribute or Method of an null-Object is not possible. at components::NumDisplay()[srccomponentsNumDisplay.mxml:39] This line in NumDisplay.mxml is the problem:
I'm working on a stand-alone application and NOT a web-based application, so I'm trying to do this strictly with AS3, if possible. For example, if I have an XML file that looks like this:
I am having trouble parsing some xml that has a few attribute names with : characters in them. The compiler is not throwing any errors and when I trace my complete xml object out it is all there, however when I try to trace out any element or node it keeps comming up undefined. I removed the attribute names with : characters in them and everything works fine. I cant seem to target the attributes either to delete them.
It seems like a best practice in Flex/Actionscript to define static variables that define event names like so:
public class MyEvent extends Event { public static const EVENT_NAME:String = "eventName"; // Other stuff.. }
It's a great practice since the event name can change easily and not have to be modified throughout the code. So my question is: Is there any way to use this static const in my metadata event tag? I can't seem to do something like this:
Am I just ignorant of the proper syntax to do this, or is it impossible? Seems like it's just asking for hard to find bugs if someone decides to change the const since it is not strongly typed here.
I have a flash file that has an XML driven menuing system to select and play various FLVs. I want to be able to craft different URLs to open the swf and start playing different FLVs. (The others will be accessible from the menu once the sfw is opened, but I am looking to control what plays on opening, dependent on what link a user click.) Not really sure about the best way to get the selection into the swf.
I have a site that uses an user id that needs to be passed from links with a flash banner. I have it working, but not the way I need it and could use a little assistance.
I'm trying to pass the file name of an image upload PHP script into Flash's UILoader component. So when a user uploads their image, the file name of the file is passed to flash so that the image displays within the Flash UILoader application. Here's the PHP variable I'm trying to pass: $filename= ''; And here's where Flash's UILoader gets it's source (ActionScript 3.0): uiLoader.source = "freshly uploaded file.jpg ($filename)?";
i have the php file transfering the correct data but it is not registering as the variable in swfi have already tested the php file and do Know that it is working correctly I have tested the swf file - no user works but the variable sent for balance is not setting
$select = "SELECT * FROM `auth` WHERE `username` = '$username'"; $result = mysql_query($select) or die(mysql_error()); //how many rows
I am using SWFObject2 and passing in a flashvar to the movie it is loading (preloader.swf). I can retrieve the flashvar in preloader.swf no problem at all.The issue is that I am loading another swf from the preloader.swf (lets call it loaded.swf) and I want to get the variable from preloader.swf into loaded.swf - but for the life of me I just can't work out how to do it.If I try and access the variable from the preloader.swf via loaded.swf I just get compiler errors because the variable I want in preloader.swf doesn't exist in loaded.swf
I've got a question regarding passing a variable from PHP webpage to .swf file placed on that webpage.
Example: Button on a webpage1.php is loading a frame.swf file. Frame.swf is loading test.swf into itself using ActionScript Code: loadMovie("min est.swf", mc);
Button on second webpage2.php is again loading frame.swf file but this time I would like that frame.swf would load test2.swf into itself using ActionScript Code:
I have integrated a swf into another swf. (Actually it is a menu that I have incorporated in my 'main swf'.) When clicking a button in swf no.1 (the menu) I set:
_global.new_value="1" ; _root.Application.newfunction(); -and then in swf no.2:
I'm trying to pass a variable from my main swf to another one that's being loaded in a container in the main swf. What I usually do is create that variable in the main swf and have the loaded swf fetch it but in this instance I need the loaded swf to have it's own root.
i have a "campus map MC" that is an attachedmovie clip linked from the library to a scrollpane on the main timeline. there is a "info balloon MC" in the "campus map" with a "close" button on the info balloon that hides the balloon.
the campus map has buttons over each bldg. on rollover/rollout the "info balloon MC" appears and disappears. if you click the button it 'stays' and the button is disabled so that the rollover/out stop.
button code:
Code:
on (rollOver) { setProperty(this.bubble,_visible, 100); // info balloon MC nested in the campus map MC setProperty(this.bubble,_x, 200);
I have 3 movieclips in the Libarary, called (both by name and class) section0, section1 and section2.This works for instance to attach a movie clip to the stage:
Code: var myMovie:MovieClip = new section1; addChild(myMovie);
