Flash :: LoadMovieClip.onError Doesn't Seem To Catch Some Errors?

Jan 1, 2009

My first attempt involved using LoadVars and "load", and only calling loadMovie if the file successfully loaded (found the technique somewhere out here). However, I found that the ProcessRequest function in the HttpHandler was getting called twice when the file does exist. Makes sense - once for load, once for loadMovie.Now I'm using MovieClipLoader instead (also found this technique out here). This way does call ProcessRequest only once whether or not the file is found. But my problem is that the onLoadError function is only working when I give it a bad URL. If I give it a good URL that passes a bad filename to the handler, the handler throws an error, but my onLoadError function doesn't seem to recognize that there's a problem - I just get a blank area where the error message should be showing up.Here's the relevant AS2 code:

function CheckFileExists(inFile) {
var mclListener:Object = new Object();
mclListener.onLoadError = function(target_mc:MovieClip, err:String){

Flash - AsyncErrorEvent Isn't Working To Catch Errors For RTMP Video Player

Nov 19, 2009

I have this streaming video player with an asyncErrorHandler function which isn't working correctly.In Flash player 10 I get no errors, but in Flash player 9 I'll get a popup window with the error message that shows up in my output window when I test on my local machine.

Error #2044: Unhandled AsyncErrorEvent:. text=Error #2095: flash.net.NetConnection was unable to invoke callback onBWDone. error=ReferenceError: Error #1069: Property onBWDone not found on src.display.VideoClass and there is no default value.

I feel that I have my AsyncErrorEvent setup correctly however, but am unsure as to why I still get a massive error in my output window, here is the popup window and code below:My statusEventHandler function

// ☼ --- Handle Status and Errors
function statusEventHandler(event:NetStatusEvent):void {
trace("connected is: "+ncConnection.connected);

ActionScript 3.0 :: Errors In A Game - Move A Frog In X Axis To Catch The Falling Flies

Jul 24, 2010

I'm trying to do a simple game in which you have to move a frog in X axis to catch the falling flies. sorry if I mistake some words cuz I talk in spanish It's already done, but it has 2 bugs and I dunno what the reasons are

The 1st bug, Each time the game is over, and you click in "PLAY AGAIN ", I could notice that the frog movement (which you can move by pressing the keys) is increased a little; for example if you played 6 times the 7th you can reach the opposite side by pressing the corresponding key 2 times, despite the fact that in the code i did write only +15px for the right when you press right arrow and -15px for the left when you press the left one (on X axis) for each time the key is pressed

ActionScript 3.0 :: Explanation Of Callback Functions

Nov 5, 2009

What I get is that you can pass a function to another function as an argument so that the function that you pass to can "call back" that particular function.

All good. However, I'm unclear about a couple things: Why exactly is this beneficial? is this the same thing that the addListenerEvent method does when you pass it a function as an argument for when the event fires?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Create Own Callback Functions?

Jul 28, 2011

There are several built-in callback functions in Flash, all of them very useful because they are monitoring events and immediately execute actions. They made us economy in code writings. Unfortunately, there's not enough callback functions that fulfill our particular requirements. For example, there's not such a MovieClip.onFrameReached(n) function, that makes something when the movie clip reaches the frame number n. I must appeal to setInterval function to monitor when the movie clip reach the frame n. I try to avoid using that because I believe it is resource consuming. In ActionScript 2.0, can you create your own callback functions or methods? think about what useful a function I described would be when you work with external swf's in order to synchronize it with other objects.

Actionscript 3 :: Force Parameters In Callback Functions?

Mar 4, 2010

I am currently doing something like this:

myFunc(tracer);
function tracer(message:String):void{
trace(message);[code]........

Now, this works fine. But how can the function myFunc know, if the given callback function accepts the correct number and type of arguments in its signature?I want to avoid that I call something like this somewhere in my code:

myFunc(tracer2);
function tracer2():void{
trace("done");[code]..........

Is there a way to do something like this, in order to use compiler warnings/error messages and thus avoid exceptions at runtime?

// Won't work :-(

function myFunc(callback(message:String):Function):{
callback("Hello");

ActionScript 3.0 :: Asynch Or Callback Functions Between Classes?

Apr 26, 2009

Im trying to load some data, but I want to outsource the job of data loading to different classes.lets say XMLLoader class will get the url and return an xml file. The problem now is that such procedures are asynchronous, the class has to wait for XML to load and then call back the caller class and return the xml data.One way of doing this, is returning the data with a custom event. once its loaded then dispatch this event with the data in. However, I was wondering, if there is a way to do it with some sort of asynch call, meaning the caller class sends the request, then waits for a response.is such a thing possible? is there a better way or do I need to stick to my custom events?

ActionScript 2.0 :: [Flash8] Setting Callback Functions On An Object Methods?

Jan 12, 2006

Been doing some actionscript magic lately, done a nice interpolator class. The class, whenever an update occurs, calls a previously specified callback function. Normally, setting a variable of funCallback:Function and calling it works fine. However when I wanted to specify an *object's method* as the callback for the interpolator, it apparently called it as if it would be a static method.

And it isn't.What I need to do, simply speaking, is to be able to call an object's public method, having just th object's reference and function name, just like the second variant of setInterval does ( the one having "object, string" as the first two params, not "function").

Actionscript 3 :: Flex Adding Event Listeners With Callback Functions Which Have No Arguments

Jun 10, 2009

fileReference.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, uploadCompleteHandler);
private function uploadCompleteHandler(event:Event):void {}

Above is one way to add an event listener in Actionscript. By default the callback function needs to have an argument with name event and type Event. Is there a way to declare this function without any arguments :

private function uploadCompleteHandler():void {}

Edit : It's possible to add an event handler without any arguments in mxml. So one student wanted to know, why isn't it possible to do the same in actionscript?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Initclip Functions Causing Errors

Feb 23, 2006

I'm a javascript/html programmer, and although it's coming along, my knowledge of flash/actionscript is still quite basic. Most of the coding comes easy, but the layering of content/actions still has the tendancy to give me fits. Sometimes I learn about something completely new, such as the use of #initclip, and it causes problems that I'm not sure how to handle.

A client has given us the .fla to a fully functional .swf. The .fla contains many (40+) Sprites which are only used for #initclip purposes. When I recompile the .fla, I get 734 errors, which I'll discuss below. For the record, I have tried publishing with both Flash MX and Flash 8, using both ActionScript 1.0 and 2.0 options, and trying to compile as Flash 6, 7, and 8 files. I've also added the Flash Remoting Components for both my Flash MX and Flash 8 programs.[code]...
