ActionScript 2.0 :: Unload External Swfs?
Jul 18, 2004
The problem is that I want to unload/remove a swf or jpg I've loaded when I press another button in the main swf. The reason why I want to do this is because if I click on a button which I've linkaged with a movieclip in the library the external swf or jpg is still visible in the background.I've tried with unloadMovieClip (transition and content) various times but it wont unload the previous loaded swf or jpg. Maybe I just can't find the correct path to where the swf or jpg loads.

I have a small problem,(among many others...) i am loading an external swf using:
this.onRelease = function(){
loadMovieNum ("contentLondon.swf",50)
}
So the ext SWF loads on top of my main SWF, but i have other buttons that will load other ext SWF's. What i would like to do is when an ext SWF is loaded and the user choses to click another link from the main SWF, i would like to have the already loaded one "unload" so that the new one can load in place of it

I am loading external SWFs on my main flash file. For every External SWFs: They also have multiple levels. There is a base SWF and then 5 levels of other external SWFs there. So- i load an external SWF on my main flash and that external SWF also has its own external SWFs.

I have written a basic piece of code to load and unload different swfs, now on their own they're pretty smooth (opened independently) , but when you load and unload them a couple of times in the main fla, just like as a user would navigate through a website, it causes the whole flash player and the movies to slow down quite dramatically and looks very bad as if about to crash. Now i know this problem was reported in FP 9, but anyone else has encountered this in FP 10 as well ?
Here's how i load and unload the external SWFs using buttons :
Code: Select allbt1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,onLoadClick);
function onLoadClick(evt:MouseEvent):void
{

[URL]regarding this tutorial I started my site [URL] to get some trasition effects but im getting somewhat different since the external SWFs take time to load. isn't it better to create "intro and outro" on the same time line instead of loading external SWFs bcos once the movie loaded as a whole will lead to smooth and contineous transitions.

I recently created a site using the "Transitions between External SWFs" tutorial for Flash MX 2004. I use this to load the sections of my site into the main movie file. Each section is an External SWF file. When a viewer clicks on a navigation button, the specific external swf move will load and play. Currently, a viewer would need to click on another navigation option to close the current external swf file. I would like to add a close button to each of the external swfs so that a view has the option to close the window without clicking on a naviagtion link.

I got my swfs to load on my web page. I have masked them once loaded. When I play one (click button) then jump to a different page (different frame) everything works fine. But, when I play one and then click another to play and then go to a different page, the mask seems to stay on screen (I am getting a white box in the mask area).
I want to eventually load all my swfs and mask them with their corresponding buttons and then jump to other pages (frames) on my website. I just can't seem to get rid of these boxes (masks).
Here is my code......
var Xpos: Number = 260;
var Ypos: Number = 80;
var swf: MovieClip;
var loader: Loader = new Loader ();

I want to load and unload 4 swfs files that will run in a continuous loop. There are no buttons, it should just load automatically one after the next. The first swf plays fine but it does not advance to the next swf, it just loops the first one.
This is ActionScript Code:
// Array of external clips to use. Variable index refers to next clip to be displayed.
var clips:Array = ["swfs/ASA_Aseries.swf", "swfs/ASA_M7.swf" , "swfs/Interoperability_ASA.swf", "swfs/Vseries_ASA.swf"];
var index:int = 0;
// Stuff for loading files
var thisLoader:Loader = new Loader();

I have a main fla file which loads an external swf into an empty movieclip on the main timeline which works fine but I want a button in the external swf to load another external swf into another empty movie clip on the main timeline.eg. start.swf loads UKEIAMap.swf into (empty movie clip within start.swf) MapLoader_mc then a button havant_b within UKEIAMap.swf needs to load HavantProjectSheet.swf into (empty movie clip within start.swf) ProjectSheetLoader_mc without unloading UKEIAMap.swf

I am loading eight external swfs by way of eight buttons with actionscript to remove the swfs and sound after a new button is clicked. This works fine except that as soon as you get to the frame where the actionscript is all the swfs load at one time on top of each other. I don't want any to load until the button is clicked for the right one. MouseEvent listener works but only after all the swfs have loaded. How do I get the swfs to load only when the buttons are clicked. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong.

I've just recently made the leap from AS2 to AS3 and after several days of reading the CS4 help and searching posts here, I'm still at a loss how to get my first AS3 project off the ground.I'm working on an illustrated choose-your-own-path story with each step split into seperate swfs to speed up loading time.I've got a main file loading a scene swf using.[code]The loading works fine (although I've just found a post that suggests I should wait until the swf loads before adding it as a child), but how would I then get the buttons in the loaded swf to tell the main swf which swf to load next?I'm stumped firstly by that, and additionally by how I should then UNload the swfs. Is it not common practice to refer to objects by their '.name' in AS3? Should I be loading the swfs into an array?

[URL]I have: main.swf (a menu) and I have module.swf (content)If you navigate to Subsea Wellhead Systems/SS-15 BigBore II and click on that I have it load an external swf which covers most of the parent. So far so good. My problem is unloading the loaded 'Child' swf with the button provided on the loaded 'Child' swf.below is the code I used to load the file but I cant, for the life of me, find a way to unload it.
var bigboreLoader:Loader = new Loader();btnbb2.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, bigborecontent);
function bigborecontent(event:MouseEvent):void{var bigboreRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest("moduletemplate.swf"); bigboreLoader.load(bigboreRequest); stage.addChild(bigboreLoader);
I am certain it requires the Child to communicate with the parent somehow but I am at a loss. If I could get a bit of advice or a link to something deal with this, it would be a big help. I just need to have my links load my modules and the remove them when the close buttong is hit on the loaded swf. I promise I have done searches and I admit I have found asnwers but still they are not working. I found the code below:
Main FLA:
function removeF() {
removeChild(bigboreLoader);
}

I'm sure this question has been answered but I have been looking everywhere and all I can find is how to load an external SWF but not how to unload it. I come from a basic knowledge of AS2 and it was easy for me to load using levels but I have run into a wall. I have a main swf and to keep the initial filesize small I would like to split some image intensive sections out and load them when needed.

I have created a main "site.swf" file that loads a "default.swf" file into a container after a preloader. On this default.swf file I have buttons that needs to load new external SWF files in its place in the container. All of the external SWFs contain buttons and navigations that will also call up other external SWFs into this container. So, I would like to know how to program each button (some are movieclips as buttons) to unload itself and load the respective SWF into the container (eg. AboutUsButton to call up aboutus.swf into the container). I do not have a main navigation on the site.swf file bacause the navigation changes on each SWF that needs to be loaded into the container.

I have an invisible movie clip I want to go to the NEXT page, as it goes to that page, I want it to essentially remove itself (page1.swf). e.g. page1.swf (contains fancy.swf - [AS2], 4 images, several invisible MCs with code) has an invisible MC + on click = remove page1.swf.
To be clear, this does work. It goes to page2.swf and page2.swf goes to page1.swf as it should. The issue is that if the user repeatedly does this (just 2 or 3 times) the fancy.swf becomes impossible to control and Flash (CS5) crashes. I think this is due to the fact it's not unloading the entire thing, it's only unloading fancy.swf on click (I hope). So underneath page2.swf is page1.swf, and when the user clicks back to page1.swf, page2.swf AND page1.swf are underneath that, and so on and so forth.

Specifically, I am building a flash page that loads external swf files and inside some of the external swf files, I would like to add audio and flash video (flv) streaming from the Flaash Media Server. In some of the external swf files, (using a FLVPlayback component) when you press a button on the main timeline to unload the current playing swf the audio/video continues to play after loading the new external swf file.So I believe that my approach is all wrong and I should be working to dynamically load the .mp3 and.flvs in the external swf ... my questiion is how to unload those assets when loading the new external swf

My index page has two buttons... 'about' and 'portfolio' which loads each respective external swf into a holder.When 'portfolio' is loaded there are another 8 buttons which again load 8 external swfs into a holder in the portfolio.swf. Each of the 8 external swf files load fine, but is there anyway to have a back button instead in each of the 8 external swf to go back to the portfolio.swf without having to click the 'portfolio' button?i have tried _root.unloadMovie.... but it just clears the stuff on my index page and loads the portfolio.swf

I have a main SWF (=Homepage) which displays contents that are external SWFs. Now I have figured out how to load external SWF in my Homepage (when you click a button - see code below), but I don't know how to unload them according to my needs... See, I have a "close button" in every external SWF and with AS3, I'm a little lost on how I should proceed to make this button unload the external SWF displayed on the Homepage...
