ActionScript 2.0 :: Write "<" (<) To A Html Enabled Textfield?
Nov 24, 2009
how to write less than symbol "<" to a textfield that has htmlText? Basically I am working on a chat application and when the user puts this symbol to the input textfield and sends the message, the message appears in the chat window but only to the index of the <, nothing shows up after it (including the < symbol). I don't want to leave out this symbol from the message, it is crucial that it has to appear.
I am having some trouble with a dynamic html-enabled textfield and the uiscrollbar component. I created a dynamic textfield on the stage, named it "mytext". Enable it for HTML and make it multiline. I added this action: mytext.htmlText="test

test

test" The html shows up just fine. I add a uiscrollbar to it. It is definitely targeted for "mytext". Now when I test it I get: _level0.mytext in the textbox instead. When I trace mytext.htmlText, I get the correct HTML but it just doesn't show up. When I shorten my content so that the UIscrollbar isn't necessary, the HTML is again displayed correctly. Now if I update the code to say instead:
I have developed a rolling credits style movieclip in Flash using Actionscript 2. Text is loaded from an XML file and parsed into a dynamic textfield. This text includes hyperlinks to webpages defined by a url node in the xml so Flash can add the appropriate a href to the dynamic text field and make the link clickable.
In my first attempts to do this the textfield stayed still and all the links worked fine both testing locally and when I run it in a browser on my website. Then I wanted to make things move ... which I achieved easily enough and tested locally (from within Flash Professional) and the links remained clickable, a browser window opened and the webpage i was expecting to see opened... great
However, when I export the swf, upload it and run it from my website suddenly the links are not working. So I tried to test the movie in a browser from Flash Pro - same problem, it must be something to do with Flash Player and the moving dynamic textfield.
a couple of observations - the cursor will change to a hand icon when over the links as you would expect, and if I right click on the link and click open in a new window the link works ok, just not when I left click. If I stop the scrolling then the links become clickable again, it is only when the textfield is moving... actually its not technically scrolling, im moving the whole textfield.
If I'm loading images via the tag in a dynamic text field and an IOError is thrown, what would I attach the event listener too? the text field?
I tried this... var textField:TextField = new TextField(); textField.htmlText = "here is some text and then some more"; textField.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IOError, function (e:Event):void { trace("error caught") }); to no avail...
How do I embedded a HTML-enabled javascript editor on top of Flex web application? FCKEditor is not free but any free editor with basic toolbar will do?
I have to write to a text field from a nested movieclip that is too deep to use the parent["myTextField"].text = sometexthere.how I can access that textfield? I've tried using the stage["myTextField"].text = sometexthere, but that doesn't seem to work either.
So i want a simpel textfield where a user write their name and hit the enter key. After hit of the enterkey, the textfield removes and another one is set, with the word Hi + the name. My code:
[Code]...
I know my if sentece is not in a function, and it will be outputtet incorrect in the output panel. But its just to give a feeling on what i was triyng to do.

ive publish a html file with flash detection enabled from flash.[code]now since the default codes places my flash movie on upper left corner, ive made my own tables with the flash on it, how or where do i place this code to the upper codes?[code]
I am looking for a very basic html editor (similar to the one being used in this forum to make entries - only more basic)...which ONLY uses html tags supported by the AS2 textfield....
I'm trying to work out how to get an input text box, on the click of a btn, to send any text in it to a html page. I can do this in flash by having an input write to a dynamic text box but I'm not having much luck working out how to do this with a html page.
I kind of understand the document.write JavaScript and I'm getting my head round that now but I can't seem to find anything on the JS I need to do the above. Could someone point me in the right direction before my brain goes into over drive.
I can open a new window using window.open() in ExternalInterface.call() but then I want to be able to write contents to the new window. Since, I cannot get the reference of the window back from window.open() call, I am not able to do anything to the window once it is opened.
I do not have any control over the HTML in which my swf is displayed.
Has anyone been in this situation before?
Update: After a few hours of trial and error I found you can get out of this situation by storing your window reference globally and referring to the same global reference whenever you need to access the new window.
Basically, there is a Flash movie embedded in the HTML TextFiled. The code is is as follows:

Is there any way to make the space between embedded Flash movie above and this text more narrow ???

In case there is less line breaks (
) the text in the last paragraph is shown truncated from the beginnng (so it's like "ny way to make the space..."). Is this a bug in Flash Player or is there any way to render text below embered swf better? Attachments: problem.gif (42.3 K)
I tried to display HTML content in a text field using its htmlText property. But it is not displaying correctly.I have attached here my current output (incorrect.jpg) and how it should looks like(correct.jpg).
When i use html in my xml it seems that as3 add the html text hidden to the textfield causing an y moving because of the html. How can i do to use html in xml without adding it to the textfield?
I haven't worked with HTML TextFields much, and was wondering if this is even possible. I am working on an events calendar, which when loaded displays a list of the current month's event titles in an HTML TextField. I would like to have these titles be links that when clicked on would call an ActionScript line that would setFocus on the associated date TextField.
When i use html in my xml it seems that as3 add the html text hidden to the textfieldcausing an y moving because of the html. How can i do to use html in xml without adding it to the textfield?
I have three objects on the stage, each of them holds different value. Then there is a text field. If, lets say one object is clicked textfield displays value of the object, if more objects are clicked on textfield displays the values of all objects counted together (I think you kind of know where I am coming from..
Now, after I have clicked on the objects I wanted, I would like the value of textfield to be passed to..possibly html form..Im not sure whether this can be done from the swf file, so was thinking that probably you can create a button that send the value somewhere, only dont know where and how..
I'm attempting to load HTML from the Shopify blog API into a TextField in Flash. The problem is that Shopify doesn't add width and height attributes to images that are in the blog posts. When I load these into Flash, the width and height of the image is ignored and the height of the TextField is incorrectl, which screws up my scrollbar among other things.
Is there any way to read the width and height of the images as they are loaded? I could possibly do this with PHP before it gets to Flash, but I'm not sure how.
I am trying to avoid having to unescape URL encoded XML nodes by using a CData node element. It is a hassle to URL encode the html to put into the XML which is then read into Flash. This is what I have so far:
Code: //Create XML with HTML 1.0 tags myXML = new XML('
This is a paragraph
Link to Amazon
'); // //Create dynamic html textfield
[code]....
I know that Flash does not fully support CData, but I'm sure there has to be some workaround.I did try sending the XML toString() but that didn't change anything.
htmlXML=myXML.toString();//create var for conversion from xml to string
I want the textfield to render the HTML--not just display the tags.
I need to be able to assign html/css-formatted text to a textfield within a movieclip and then be able to alpha that movieclip and have the html enabled textfield alpha with it.currently i have:1. My textfield within my movieclip with html enabled (property inspector), the font set to Arial* (the font symbol linkage from my library) and NOT embedded2. Font symbols for Arial and Arial Bold with linkage (exported to first frame)3. seperate dynamic text fields off stage, one with arial embedded and one with arial bold embedded (they are set to the font symbol in the library).I was briefly able to get it working by embedding the font on the textfield within the movieclip, but then curiosity go the better of me as I wanted to see what made it work and deleted the separate text fields (offstage ones) and tested the movie (which seemd to make the text field unable to have my css formatting (using Arial AND Arial Bold in same textfield).
I have pre-formatted HTML in a textfile. Let me know if any of this might already be an error-source- I am currently too tired to try out alternatives: The textfile looks something like this:
HTML Code:
Alot of text

Even MORE Text

It's saved as a ".txt"-file... I didn't think that would really make a difference? What I want to do is load the file and dump it directly to an HTML-enabled textfield, using something like
Code: if (loaded) { TickerData_txt.htmlText = this; } in the function connected to the "onLoad".
If I use "LoadVars" as a handler to load the file, it gives me the raw data, something like "%3Cp%3E%3Cimg%20src=%27biathlon%27%20vspace%3D%27 2%27..." (you get the idea)... If I use an XML handler, it only gives me the first entry when I use "this" to send the file's content to the htmlText-field... probably because each entry in the file is enclosed by "
"-tags and the XML-handler considers the file to be over once the first closing "
" occurs?
What would need to be added to the file to make it load it all? Or what would I need to change about the function to make sure it sends the whole content of the file? When I use "trace" on the "this" that is loaded, it actually *does* give back only what it also sends to the textfield, even though the text-file contains several rows of that stuff.
I'm using the following code to try and change the font size of a textfield dynamically using a varaible but I can't get size to use the variable as a value however all the other variables I combine with the string works as intended just not size ....
I have a sprite menu which populates a dynamic textfield with textlabels as users click individual items in the menu in addition to ordinary actions(gotoAndStop). As these labels appear in the textfield, I want to be able to link them to the frames assosciated with the menu - item frames. As you can understand from this, I am working with the timeline. By enabling html rendering of text in the textfield, I have been able to link these output labels via a a href - tag, but I am not able to call a function from this html. The function I am trying to call uses a switch statement to take the appropriate actions according to which label is being clicked, but the only effect I get is the html opening a browser window...... Unfortunately I do not know how to explain this any better, but here is my code for the following:
In a CS3/As3 project I have xml files with html content loaded in a texfiled inside a mc. In some cases I have swf files embedded with img tag in the xml. The problem is that when a swf is loaded this way It keeps 'living', playing with sounds in the background when other xml files and swf are loaded in the texfiled. Then, every time it is loaded, a new instance of the swf is created and played.I have found out you can refer to the loader object with getImageReference method giving an id to img tag and, for example, adding an Event.COMPLETE listener to the loader. But I don't know how to access to the loaded swf to unload it or at least stop it (mc_name.texfiled_name.swf_id doesn't seem to work in AS3)Does anybody know if it is possible?
