Professional :: Calling Function From Html Tag In Dynamic Textfield
Oct 28, 2010
I have a sprite menu which populates a dynamic textfield with textlabels as users click individual items in the menu in addition to ordinary actions(gotoAndStop). As these labels appear in the textfield, I want to be able to link them to the frames assosciated with the menu - item frames. As you can understand from this, I am working with the timeline. By enabling html rendering of text in the textfield, I have been able to link these output labels via a a href - tag, but I am not able to call a function from this html. The function I am trying to call uses a switch statement to take the appropriate actions according to which label is being clicked, but the only effect I get is the html opening a browser window...... Unfortunately I do not know how to explain this any better, but here is my code for the following:
Tried several approaches for making this happen, but can't seem to do it. I could really use an example of how to do this in my particular case, since I'm not exactly a code - guru..... So my team's project has an swf embedded in JavaScript, we're actually using java servlet's to create the html/JavaScript. I am attempting to use as3's ExternalInterface to add a callback which would get called in the javascript but everything I have tried will not work.[code]so if there is a missing tag or something that's probably not my problem. NOTE I embed this correctly and get into the swf allowing it to call javascript functions(as3 calls the getStuff fn), using the ExternalInterface, which works but JS->as3 does NOT work ='I cant use the movie object for anything (the return value of getFlashMovie), if I try to use no code after works.The action script code calls the external interface addCallback function correctly(called in a try catch that's how I know)[code]The only things I can think of;
1) The embed code isnt creating the object correctly, since I cant use the movie for anything
2) my swf is being created weird and doesnt allow script access. We are using FlashBuilder to build the swf.
how to call a flash function from an HTML page. The idea is to have a link on my page (HTML link) that once clicked displays a movieclip in flash. I know i have to use the asfunction in HTML. So far I have just created my swf file with a function called showInfo. I've embedded the flash into an HTML page. I have then added a link on the HTML page as follows:
Link name but when I click it says: "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (asfunction) isn't associated with any program."
is there a piece of code I need to write in flash for this to work?
I have a flash movie within it quite a few scenes. When I go to a certain scene it has a movie clip on it (UGFT_MC). Within this I have a dynamic text box (UGFTtxt). I have the render text as HTML selected and the variable called "data". On my main timeline at the start of this scene I have the actionscript: loadVariables("UGFT.txt","_root.UGFT_MC");
Within my text file I have the following:
data=All the code I want in my text box
<img src="test.jpg"
etc.
This part all works, except I have lots of text and images in the text file and need a scroll bar on my dynamic text box. I have tried the UIScrollBar and it only works some of the time, and there is no pattern as to whether the scroll bar will appear. Quite often it is just a grey area. Though the top of the text called from the file is visible.
I am trying to avoid having to unescape URL encoded XML nodes by using a CData node element. It is a hassle to URL encode the html to put into the XML which is then read into Flash. This is what I have so far:
Code: //Create XML with HTML 1.0 tags myXML = new XML('
This is a paragraph
Link to Amazon
'); // //Create dynamic html textfield
[code]....
I know that Flash does not fully support CData, but I'm sure there has to be some workaround.I did try sending the XML toString() but that didn't change anything.
htmlXML=myXML.toString();//create var for conversion from xml to string
I want the textfield to render the HTML--not just display the tags.
I am having some trouble with a dynamic html-enabled textfield and the uiscrollbar component. I created a dynamic textfield on the stage, named it "mytext". Enable it for HTML and make it multiline. I added this action: mytext.htmlText="test

test

test" The html shows up just fine. I add a uiscrollbar to it. It is definitely targeted for "mytext". Now when I test it I get: _level0.mytext in the textbox instead. When I trace mytext.htmlText, I get the correct HTML but it just doesn't show up. When I shorten my content so that the UIscrollbar isn't necessary, the HTML is again displayed correctly. Now if I update the code to say instead:
I am creating an interactive map which is attached, what I want when you hover over any movieclip the alpha decreases and when you mouse off it goes back to 100% aplha. I can certainly do this, but I only know how to do it by referencing each movieclip first! For example:
We are building a flash website with cms at the back end, and we are allowing admin to put anchors inside a content. Later we created a smaller version of the whole content to display just a small part and then [read more] button. Which add a new layer on top of every thing acting like a popup and it is populated with complete content.
Now we would like to scroll that text inside popup to that portion which [read more] button was clicked.
The most common example inside HTMl is go to top link in footer on most of the sites which move the whole document to top.
We have a little app in use with a customer where html links are generated dynamically at run time. The link text and url are put together from a couple of txt files that the customer regularly goes in and edits. These links have recently stopped working.
Of course, you would think the immediate culprit is the customer who has made a mistake in the txt files. But the the same vars from the same files are used to generate a couple of buttons on the page that DO work. And everything works when I export it from flash. It stops working as soon as it gets to a web server.
Here is the output from the functions that piece together the input data:
[Code]....
And here is the link to the app: [URL]
Choose a category in any of the lists and then any of the subheaders that appear. Most have a link in them. It's in Swedish but I know you lot are smart enough to navigate a flash app without understanding what you're clicking on
I'm trying to call a javascript function from within my swf and I'm having a couple of problems which are confussing me somewhat. I'm using this to call the function from flash: ExternalInterface.call("pgcover"); I know that this is calling the function as I have set it trigger an alert action and this comes up properly. But I don't want the function to trigger an alert, this is just for testing purposes. I instead want it to change the styling on a div. I have set up a test page where I have asigned the function to a button and this works, the div display changes from block to none. When I get the swf to call the function setup to do the same thing, nothing happens.
I have what I think is an easy question but I am having problems with it... Using AS2 / CS3, I am calling a javascript function from Flash, but i would like the value to be a variable and I cant figure out how to do it. the started code is below and I need direction on how to make "myVar" actually a variable.
Im currently creating textfields in a for loop - though in this example only creating one TextField. My questions is, how do I remove the TextField child in another function? What im basically doing is, create a Textfield, addchild to a container - > then the container into another position - > then removechild and another text in the container. I've tried something like:
I have a dynamic text field which is just one line of text. For some reason letters like g or p that go below the regular line of text get cut off. I have made the field bigger, and also played around with the _height Property but it doesn't make a difference. I have imported the font into the Library. When I embed it the font doesn't cut off but looks very different. And if I change the field to a static field it doesn't cut off either, but the font looks a little different as well.
The textfield is being updated as a user clicks the buttons of a sprite array menu, so that the label names of timeline frames appear in the field. However, I want to be able to click these labelnames also, as they appear in this textfield. The textfield is placed just to the right of the menu, to offer shortcuts to visited menu items. I am not trying to populate a textfield with ton of text in authortime, and then clicking some of it - That is not what I am trying to do.
I am making a Scrollbar component and I want a script to call a calculation function for resizing the scrollbar when a new data is loaded.I was experimenting with Object.watch but it's use is beyond me. I don't understand if its the thing I need. Can Object.watch call a function when say a dynamic textfield's data is changed?
Using the flash authoring tool, I want to resize a dynamic textfield to a particular height. However, it will not allow me to size the textfield smaller than a height that will fit all of the (multiline) text. How can I override this and make the height smaller so I can use scrollbars?
I have made a flash site with input/dynamic text fields like 9 horrizontally and 9 vertically I want to use arrows to change WHERE I AM TYPING. if not arrows than i want the tab key to go vertically down rather than horizontally and if you can give me an exhample of the code needed in actionscript 3 to do this
I have a flash movie with a dynamic loading textfield formatted in html. What I'm looking to do is format (using a tag?) the loaded html code to have a hyperlink (<a href?>) gotoAndPlay(2) or perform other functions.
I have a problem: I'm trying to have a dynamic text box (htmlText) with a number of links (all dynamically generated themselves) within. I need some way that the html link can detect the user mousing over/off of it and fire off a function (to bring up a tooltip elsewhere on the interface, specifically). Is this at all possible in ActionScript 1.0?
I have developed a rolling credits style movieclip in Flash using Actionscript 2. Text is loaded from an XML file and parsed into a dynamic textfield. This text includes hyperlinks to webpages defined by a url node in the xml so Flash can add the appropriate a href to the dynamic text field and make the link clickable.
In my first attempts to do this the textfield stayed still and all the links worked fine both testing locally and when I run it in a browser on my website. Then I wanted to make things move ... which I achieved easily enough and tested locally (from within Flash Professional) and the links remained clickable, a browser window opened and the webpage i was expecting to see opened... great
However, when I export the swf, upload it and run it from my website suddenly the links are not working. So I tried to test the movie in a browser from Flash Pro - same problem, it must be something to do with Flash Player and the moving dynamic textfield.
a couple of observations - the cursor will change to a hand icon when over the links as you would expect, and if I right click on the link and click open in a new window the link works ok, just not when I left click. If I stop the scrolling then the links become clickable again, it is only when the textfield is moving... actually its not technically scrolling, im moving the whole textfield.
Is there a way to type HTML directly into a TextField in Flash CS4? I've created a TextField on the stage, set it to dynamic, set "Render text as HTML" and thought that I could then type HTML directly into the TextField and that it would be rendered as such. Instead it displays whatever HTML I type as regular text.
I assume then that the only way to get HTML into one of these fields is to dynamically load it into the TextField through the htmlText property. Is this right? And if so, what exactly is the purpose of having a "Render text as HTML" button in the first place? Couldn't I just load the HTML into the TextField through the htmlText property anyways?
Well, at any rate, I was really hoping to use as much of the flash interface for the project I'm working on, such that anyone who didn't know AS3 could easily update it themselves. Now it's looking like not only will they have to know AS3 and HTML, but also have to deal with the hassle of formatting what will potentially be a complex system of images, textfields, and videos all in AS3 with no visual interface.
Is it too much to ask to be able to just highlight some text and make it bold or italic? That's really all I need, sadly.
I'm able to use a .txt file with basic html elements inside to display correctly. But I now have a structured document done in ms word. If I copy the html and try to save as a .txt file it will only allow to be saved as .rtfis there a way to preserve all the font, breaks and styles from a doc saved in .rtf or can I do this in a different way.

I have a FLVplayer that has multiple films linking to it. There are also categories of films that can change, without disturbing the previous video from playing. This will be on the 'portfolio' page of my website. I then want to have links on the homepage to play certain videos. How can I set up an HTML link to a SWF on a different HTML page, linking to a certain frame (category) and loading the correct video in the FLVplayer?I have read about flashvars but im not sure if they can load bits inside the swf (ie the video).
I am looking for a very basic html editor (similar to the one being used in this forum to make entries - only more basic)...which ONLY uses html tags supported by the AS2 textfield....
found that code to display html format text to dynamic textfield in as3:
var url:String = "http://edeejay.dyndns.org:8000/currentsong?sid=1"; var loadit:URLLoader = new URLLoader(); loadit.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, completeHandler);
