I am making a Scrollbar component and I want a script to call a calculation function for resizing the scrollbar when a new data is loaded.I was experimenting with Object.watch but it's use is beyond me. I don't understand if its the thing I need.Can Object.watch call a function when say a dynamic textfield's data is changed?
View 13 RepliesI have an AS3 program that calls a function multiple times. The function must return multiple variables, so I created a class for the function to declare an object containing all of these variables. For example, here's my class:

Let's say the calling program calls the function, which returns the variables into data_set1 (where data_set1 depends on input variables arg1, arg2, arg3) using:
var data_set1:PER = function_name(arg1, arg2, arg3);
The calling program does some stuff, then calls the function again, but returns the variables into a new variable name, data_set2:
var data_set2:PER = function_name(arg4, arg5, arg6);
My intention is that data_set1 and data_set2 are different (e.g. not linked together).
My question is, given that arrays are passed by reference, will data_set1 be modified to agree with data_set2 upon the 2nd function call? Why or why not?

I have 2 input textfields on the stage and 1 dynamic textfield.
-input1 is for quantity
-input2 is for page count
When a user enters a number into the page count it makes a calculation and places the outcome into the dynamic textfield. This textfield is for the individual price.All of this so far works. What I want to do now is create another dynamic textfield for the total. So the individual price is multiplied by the quantity and this result is put in the new dynamic text field. I have the code for that working but here is where it gets tricky (for me anyway).The total price is to start off invisible. When I roll over the individual price the total price is to appear (For a test lets just say when I roll over an area the total price appears).To stop cursor flickering this should be done inside a movieclip. So... I have create a movieclip and placed a dynamic textfield inside it. They all have instance names BUT how do I reference it in script?I need to tell the resulting calculation to be placed inside the textfield which is inside the movieclip. If it isn't inside a movie clip I can do it. But how to I reference it when inside one?
I have a Dynamic Text Field that is calling an external HTML file with no problem at all -- but I need it to call a (.asp) file into this text box from an external server .. What code would I place in the Text Field MC to have it call a URL (.asp) into the box and display?

What I want is to be able to make the 'this' keyword refer to the TextField. Is there another way of doing this?

View 3 RepliesI have a symbol called Score which has 1 static textfield and 1 dynamic textfield called scoreDisplay. Instead of dragging the symbol into the FLA and naming the symbol right there I want to add it as an object instead.
When I add it through the FLA and try to update the score in the textfield everything works, but I don't get it to work using AS.
So, is there any way to name an object that you create by using addChild in the same way you name it when you drag it into the FLA?

I have an external swf(s) loaded in a main swf container. I am trying to create templates for non-coders. The main swf loads "pages" based on the currentFrame number. i.e. if on frame 12 load "m1_012.swf"I need the function call to the main swf to be dynamic.The variable function call doesn't work in the following code. View 1 RepliesI've been trying to use the object.watch() method. I've never used this before, so I'm assuming I'm pretty far off base here. What I have is a parent movie (_root.) that has a bunch of variables. As the user progresses through the movie/project the variables change based on the user's actions. Within this parent movie there is another movie embedded. In this movie, things change based on the variable changes of the parent movie. So, for instance, say the user gets through frame #20 and hits the "next" button in the parent movie, this triggers a variable change in the parent movie, which then causes the embedded movie to change its color from blue to red (or whatever, action doesn't matter)

I'm working in Flash CS5 w/ActionScripting 3.0. I have a content box w/scroller that calls dynamic html on one page/part of my project's timeline.
I want to duplicate the exact same content box w/scroller, but need it to contain different data (call a different .htm doc), for another part of my site.
I have created an array, and everything seems to be going okay, although I am unable to capture the array's data properly. The Trace function returns something like this :

Another option would be to take all this info and put it into 1 variable or something, but I'm not sure how to do that either.
i've got a scenario that i'm working thru on paper first and wanted to run it by everyone to see if i'm doing it correctly and most importantly, efficiently so, here goes...the situation | an instance of the DateChooser component reads an xml file which houses info for homework assignments and their due dates. if there is a due date, make sure that date is highlighted on the DateChooser component. from what i've been told, the xml file stores urls which will tell if there is s/thing due on a particular date.

What needs to happen as soon as the xml file is loaded? i.e. do i call a function which parses the xml data and puts it into an array? then the DateChooser component iterates thru the array looking for boolean values noting if there is an activity or not and if so, on which day. if it finds one, it sets its highlight property to true for that particular day.
I've asked this same question with Python. Now I like to know if this can be done in AS3.

I have an if/else statement which checks the length of my current title, and then is suppose to change the defaultTextFormat of the title textField and set the text. Currently the title will not show up now, no matter what character length the title is, any thoughts on what I could be doing wrong here?

the result of the _y of screen seems the same as the value in asp, but not the _x value!! Is there something related with the setting of the flashpage which make the result different?
I have 2 textfields...They have to be related to each other so when I change the data in one of them, the other changes too (not identically... calculations and stuff) And when I change the second one the, first one has to change accordingly... like a 2-way thing Has that something to do with listeners mby?
