So I have chess like game, where I place my piece (c[i]) on the board, the piece automatically gets pushed into a square, and the AI starts (computerplay function)
The problem is that the AI (computerplay function) is running before the piece get pushed into the nearest square, leaving it hanging oddly over the board for 3 seconds while the computer thinks.
Is there some way to force a redraw before the calling the computerplay function?

I'm using a package to play back .wav files in Flash. I can make wav's play back, however, what I cannot do is trigger their playback from a button. I suspect this is because I've misunderstood the this keyword. Below is an example.
You can see that when I call playBackTest() directly it works; when I call this object from a button it doesn't.

I'm having a hard time because of an "Error #1009:Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference" Iget everytime I try to run my Flash-movie. I've attached the codethat is contained in frame 1.The function bringUpEasyQuestion is defined on frame 2, alongwith other functions that are defined there. Now when I test themovie, I get this message:TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method ofa null object reference.at MES_fla::MainTimeline/bringUpEasyQuestion()atMES_fla::MainTimeline/frame1()I've read that the Error1009-message means that you aretrying to access something that isn't there yet. And indeed, thebringUpEasyQuestion-function accesses objects that exist only onframe 2. But the first line of the function bringUpEasyQuestion isgotoAndStop(2);. The curious thing is that it works when i put thelast line of the code in frame one (the function callbringUpEasyQuestion(0);) on the first line
with the command gotoAndStop(2);?

I've been trying to use the object.watch() method. I've never used this before, so I'm assuming I'm pretty far off base here. What I have is a parent movie (_root.) that has a bunch of variables. As the user progresses through the movie/project the variables change based on the user's actions. Within this parent movie there is another movie embedded. In this movie, things change based on the variable changes of the parent movie. So, for instance, say the user gets through frame #20 and hits the "next" button in the parent movie, this triggers a variable change in the parent movie, which then causes the embedded movie to change its color from blue to red (or whatever, action doesn't matter)

i'm attempting to cast an object's property as an actual property of another object. here's my object variable: var propObj:Object = {prop:"width", width:50}; now i want to assign the property of a sprite using that object's properties. var sp:Sprite = new Sprite(); sp.(propObj.prop as Sprite.property) = propObj.width; now, i'm not even going to try that because i know the compiler will explode all up in my face. but you should be able to see what i'm trying to do. why i'm trying to do it is because i'm reading in an XML file with an undetermined list of usable properties for specific objects. so instead of writing something like a huge switch statement to evaluate whether the XML file has a value for that specific property, i'm trying to assign properties dynamically based on what's available in the XML file. if what i'm trying to do is possible, what's the best way to do it?

I forgot to put it in the title so I'll just place it here; I am using AS 2.0. I know that there are other ways to accomplish the goal that am after, but I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to access the properties of an object's properties?
Here is the code that I thought of, even though it doesn't work

This really just boils down to how I am organizing the code(I have ideas on what do next, and i am 99% sure that I can get them to work), and if there is a way to dynamically access the properties of the objects properties, It will save me from creating yet another large block of code for my project. I'm basically loading an XML file to assign instances of a movie clip a distinct value, which it uses to modify its height. So, I'm looping through the xml and instantiating my class Object each time (Rect) and then placing that Object into an array:

the trace here always comes up undefined. "listPosition" in this bit is an Rect parameter, defined in the previous bit of code as "i", so I can keep track of the order of the stack.I've found one or two examples of putting objects into an array and getting them back out, but it doesn't seem to work with this, maybe because I'm using a class. I don't know.Could this be an area where I need to use the array access brackets, like around the movie clip the object is loaded into. I've tried everything I can think of -- referencing back to the movieclip, adding extra objectRef type parameters... nothing has worked yet.

I have an AS3 function that loads and audio file and then plays it. I have the pre-loader for the first audio file working - now I need to run the pre-load function before the 2nd audio file starts.

Steps - Make 2 MovieClips. One MC will be a 500x400 picture. The other MC, will be a simple circle called "Ball". I am refactoring some code. I have a PHP page that contains a MySQL query and stores the result in a PHP variable $my_result. This result is then echoed to a Flash SWF during embedding with SWFObject. I now want to call this PHP page that makes the query from a javascript function like so - one change I have made to the PHP is that instead of storing the result in a variable $my_result I am echoing the result. I am making a character walk. This code will make him wobble to the right and when thats done it will trigger him to wobble to the left and then call the function again to continue the loop.I can get the loop to work fine by calling the function but how do I STOP the function? I'm doing some work with JSON in as3 using as3corelib (very useful) and was wondering if it is possible to get an object if all you have is one of its properties, also an object. Here's an example of some JSON:

etc.
}
}
so what i'm asking is, if I have propertyObject, can I access parentObject somehow?
