usually reading in xml, but my client is non-techyi but imagine creating a flash app which creates xml file is a nightmare.... and still open to mistakes from the end user

View 2 RepliesI am writing an AIR application through which I want to open a native process 'wordpad.exe' and write data generated in the AIR application to a document.
My code is as follows:

The wordpad application opens with a blank document but it generates an error Error#2044: Unhandled IOErrorEvent:.text=Error #3128: Error while writing data to NativeProcess.standardInput.
I am writing a desktop application and trying to decide between using AIR (FLex) or Java.Some of the requirements for the application are: needing to securely connect to webservices and JMShave a very interactive UI (lots oflittle and big features)displaying videoCommunicate with a C++ applicationTo implement the web services and JMS for Flex we were thinking of using Merapi to communicate with a Java application. Does this mean we should probably go with Java or does the better graphics capabilities of Flex still make it a better choice?
View 5 Replieswhatever you wan't to call it. Nevertheless, curious to know if Air can write inside it's own installed package. I'm referring to the OSX '.app' files found in great numbers in the applications folder. Since every one of these can be opened as a regular folder, i'm guessing that's what they are.
What other fancy filewriting tricks am i missing out on?
So I'm trying to copy a file selected by the user into the AIR application storage directory, but when I attempt to resolve the path in the storage directory, I get:
Error #3002: File or directory exists.
I get this even when there is no possible way that the file already exists (I am pretty sure there is no "qqqqq.txt" there).
My code looks like this:

saveFile.browseForOpen("Open File");
saveFile.addEventListener(Event.SELECT, function(e:Event):void

The error is thrown on the line where I try to set the destination as the applicationStorageDirectory, but I have no idea why.
Edit: So I commented out everything below var destination:File = File.applicationStorageDirectory; and it STILL throws the error.
Does anybody know a tutorial or something about writing to a txt file in Flash AS3?
View 4 RepliesI'm trying to find a way to write to a text file from as2. I don't want to use any php or asp because my app needs to run without an internet connection. As3 has FileReference.save() and judging by the amount of searching I've done, as2 doesn't have that simple of a solution. Does anyone have a way even if its hacky to write to a txt file from as2?

So for example, export an Array to XML? It doesn't need to be PHP, and stored serverside etc, just written locally on the computer would be fine.

View 1 RepliesI'm trying to write a simple plugin for the flash player flowplayer (documentation for writing a plugin for flowplayer can be found here). I'm new to flash and I think I'm having a problem connecting the .fla file to the .as file when compiling into a .swf. As it is, when I include the plugin, the player doesn't show up.
I've set the .fla's document class to the .as file and added the .as file to the .fla's publishing classpath.

View 1 RepliesI have an AIR app that gets bundled with XML files that the app needs. These get put into the APP Storage Directory, of course. Works great. But when I install a new version ( which includes new XML files) , the new files don't get added or overwrite the ones from the previous version. It seems that if that directory is there from a previous install, the installer will ignore the part where it moves included files.

How can make user to go directly to the application page everytime they click the link posted by user who already use the application instead going to the canvas page applications. i'm been trying to look for the article that support saying that user will go directly to application directly to canvas application page instead of going to the application page.
I need to make my Flash application create a connection to a remote application and have the remote application send periodic updates to my Flash animation. The remote app is written in VB 6, and does not support XML sockets. However, I don't need the ability to send or receive XML since I am going to be overriding the onLoad() event anyway.
Or maybe I do need that ability... I'm having trouble getting my onLoad() event to trigger. Right now I'm just testing the onLoad event like this:

So, basically I'm trying to find out how I can format the data I'm sending it so that the onLoad() event triggers. I've read that the XMLSocket object listens for the Null byte, so perhaps the data I'm sending it doesn't terminate properly. I need a persistent connection from Flash to the VB app because the VB app will be the one initiating the updates to the Flash application. Is the XMLSocket the way to go here, or is there another class of objects that I'm missing?
