Do you know is it possible to start iPad application from another application that is developed in Flash? I need to create small iPad app with two buttons (and some graphics/animation) in Flash. Clicking on those buttons, another iPad application should be started. My guess is that will use ExternallInterface, but I don't know what to send :)

View 2 RepliesI'm currently trying to develop my Flash animation to the iPad, however no audio plays...I'm currently using ActionScript 3 to make the audio appear instead of using the timeline, but even if I use the timeline the audio just doesn't play. The file itself is an mp3, and information on the iPad says that it should be able to play on it.
I have a really bad feeling that this is a Flash/iPad issue and it hasn't been resolved yet. Does anyone have any idea why? I really can't figure out, because it's not like there's an audio option before you publish the application...

View 1 RepliesI need to make my Flash application create a connection to a remote application and have the remote application send periodic updates to my Flash animation. The remote app is written in VB 6, and does not support XML sockets. However, I don't need the ability to send or receive XML since I am going to be overriding the onLoad() event anyway.
Or maybe I do need that ability... I'm having trouble getting my onLoad() event to trigger. Right now I'm just testing the onLoad event like this:

So, basically I'm trying to find out how I can format the data I'm sending it so that the onLoad() event triggers. I've read that the XMLSocket object listens for the Null byte, so perhaps the data I'm sending it doesn't terminate properly. I need a persistent connection from Flash to the VB app because the VB app will be the one initiating the updates to the Flash application. Is the XMLSocket the way to go here, or is there another class of objects that I'm missing?
I can't compile my .ipa with the iPhone attribute in the app.xml file. I don't know what I'm doing wrong but I'm pretty sure I followed the format correctly

View 1 RepliesI'm new to developing iOS applications and my school gave me approximately 5 months to develop an iPad application. I have no knowledge or practice on Objective C so since Flash Builder 4.5 allows the development of mobile applications (and I have experiences with Flash Builder), I decided to develop my application on Flash Builder instead.
Everything is going fine until I was told to include a SplitView in my application. I implemented a List on the left side of the application. Clicking on any of the list items will navigate the user to a to another view but i also included and retained the list on the left side of the new view in order to simulate a "SplitView".
Initially it felt as though it will do the job of a SplitView like how it does when I attempted it on XCODE but it doesn't look or feel natural. I found this video which shows that it is possible to create a SplitView on FB but I've cracked my brains and I really can't figure out how it is done.

We have an AIR application running on an Apple iPad, that occasionally experiences sudden drop in its performance. The frame rate drops from 60fps to 2fps and it never recovers from that. this is only reproducible on iOS 4, but never on iOS 5 - we've checked that on two identical iPads (generation 1)the performance drops occasionally, but always happens when we switch between apps - from our app to another and back very rarely, the performance drop also happens on first start of the app this performance issue does not happen in renderMode=CPU, but this mode doesn't work for us, because the rendering is ugly, especially on rotated bitmaps.

Oh, sure, I could learn it, but I don't have that level of commitment to the environment at this point. I've got professional experience with Flex already, so I'm intrigued by Adobe's move to make Flash/Flex compile to the iPhone and iPad. My question is: how promising of a development path will Adobe's Slider be? Are we likely to see Slider publicly available in a reasonable timeframe (Adobe: "An early mobile branch of the Flex framework is expected to be available in 2010")? Are we likely to see reasonable performance? Are there development hurdles that haven't become clear yet? Heck, is it all just vaporware? There's pretty limited information available so far, as far as I've seen, but I'm interested in people's predictions, even if they're speculative.
View 6 RepliesA while ago, I created a replacement shell to run as a front end for a cybercafe. It was nothing fancy; just a flash movie that had button links to IE and a few trusted applications.
I'm trying to develop it further now and am wondering two things:
1. Is it possible to send an application to a frame within a movie? For example, have a static movie at the top with links, then when a button is pressed, the menu remains but the application opens below without overlapping. I know I can use HTML and frames but really want to keep it all in one movie/swf.
2. Is it possible to build on the above and have some sort of application lister that will allow you to switch between the two applications you have running. For example, a user may open IE, then open Word. Word has now replaced IE and I want the user to have a simple click button to go back to an existing window rather than open another instance from the menu.
I want to integrate flash in my iPhone application so is it possible to integrate?

We have done some research and here's possible solutions:
HTML5: not yet very standard and we are lack of experience. Flash: it looks like Flash on iPhone runs on some sort of virtual machine, it's not very efficient. We have little knowledge on this too. Silverlight + Cocoa Touch: it looks like MS is now giving up SL. We need two times of work on GUI if we choose this. Maybe I can write some XAML parser for iOS using UIKit and Core Animation.

We're seeing very different results from the same files being packaged for iPhone verses iPad. Not having a lot of luck getting things to run smoothly on the iPad when they work great on the iPhone. The iPhone versions also run great on the iPad even though it has to scale down all the retina quality images. I feel like I'm missing some important difference between the two?
