ActionScript 3.0 :: Accessing Functions In Other Classes?
Sep 8, 2011
I've been working my way towards better OOP design lately and I've come across a problem with accessing functions in other classes from my Main class. Here is the code:
They are listening for functions that are within the Player.as class, these functions control the dynamics/movement of the player itelf. But for some reason I'm getting a 1120 error(access of undefined property). Basically how do you listen/access for functions within a different class?
Let's I have a class Square that has a several functions. I want to call it from a class Grid, which is a group of Squares.So in the class file for Grid, how would I do this:
Code: public function doSquareFunction(thisFunction:Function):void{ square1.thisFunction();
so I'm having this problem where one of my classes can't locate a function. The function it's trying to use is in another class, so I was wondering if there was something special you had to do. This is what I'm basically doing: One class
Let's I have a class Square that has a several functions. I want to call it from a class Grid, which is a group of Squares.So in the class file for Grid, how would I do this:

I have Flash project that is set up something like this:
myProject.fla
- document class = myMenu.as
- the document class imports a menu item from menuItem.as (import menuItem;)
I have a function in myMenu.as that sets the text formatting for all the text fields on the page. I want to be able to use this same function in menuItem.as so that all the formatting is consistent & you only have to change it in one place. How do I access this function from both myMenu.as & menuItem.as?
okay, i'm refactoring a huge ActionScript file, and so trying to move some functions into their own classes. why is this not working? i've got a function in my primary class:
// ... private var testBlock:Sprite; public function testingINT() { testBlock = new Sprite();
I'm coding a small flash game, and wan't to access different functions between classes. In C# I'm used to just making it static, but I'm having some problems with it.Here goes:
This probably has a simple solution, but I'm a complete newb to actionscript and I could really use some guidance.I have a file, called Politismos.fla. The document class of this file is: com.plaidfox.PolitismosClassPolitismosClass.as is as follows:
asically I have a Player class with methods (i.e. Moving the player) that I want to listen for and implement in the main class. To put it simply, I'm creating the player methods in the player class and then calling them in the Main class. But for some reason I'm having some trouble, I'm still trying to get used to all this OOP design.Here is the (Main) code, it's not alot:
in my Main class, i try to call a function from another class, but when i compile i get this error:1136: Incorrect number of arguments. Expected 1.i have seen some fixes involving an event in the OtherClass and (null) when i call it, but it dosent seem tohere is a code that describes my problem, what do i have to do to make this kind of code work?m i doing it wrong, or do i have to do something else?OtherClass
I've got two classes running...one is a document class (EgoGame.as) and another is a class linked to several similar movie clips (Ball.as).I'm trying to access a public variable from Ball.as which has been declared in the doucment class EgoGame.as.When I run the test the outputs states the following...1120: Access of undefined property _ballPlaced.Here's my code. What I'm trying to do is remove the event listeners from the Ball.as when the _ballPlaced variable is true, so that the user can't drag and drop the balls after they've been placed in a zone.
I have a project that i'm working on, and in the project it's important that i have an object that i can create with actionscript that already has two arrays inside of it. To do this, i made the movieclip, i checked export for actionscript in the library, and in the custom class that corresponds to that object i made the arrays with the following code:
package { import flash.display.*; public class cont extends MovieClip {
I want to access an object from a class in which it was not created in. I have a main class (A) in which I create and instantiate an object (of class B), from this class I can obviously do whatever I want with the object, no problem. The issue I'm having is another class (C) needs to access the object in question to change its x and y location values. Class C doesn't know what the instance of class B, created in class A, is; this doesn't surprise me, but I can't figure out how to allow class C to get access to what class A created.
I have 2 swfs, one is main and it loads other file "skin.swf". skin contains object of custom class SkinClass. I can access it from main swf, but when I try to cast that object, the result is null. This happens when I use absolute url, when I load skin from relative url, everything is ok.
I am having this issue were I can not access any variables from any other class![code]Now, from my other variables, that is what I do, I don't understand what I am doing wrong?
I've recently started development on my first proper AS3 project and Ive hit a sort of brick wall with my knowledge of how to make AS3 classes do what I want. I could do this in AS2 no problem with referencing the stage, but now that only the document class has access I'm stuck.I have instances of a MC called activity. These sit inside a container MC that is the source of a scroll pane (that sits on the stage).
When I click a button inside the Activity MC I need to generate a new MC and set that as the content of another scroll pane on the stage. Ive tried several things, even gotten the stage passed to the activity MC class but it can't then be used to addChild to items on the stage just reference then (much to my aggravation). And I cant set an event listener for the new activitys button when its created as it throws a static display object error of some sort.What methods can I use to pass information from a MC class back to the stage so i can call a function or just paste a MC onto the stage? I'm at my wits end after about 10 hours of exhausting everything the internet seems to have to offer on the subject.
I'm working on a flash video player and I'm trying to figure out how to access something inside the constructor that I know is set but it keeps telling me its not.
[Code]....
now in the metadata function its giving me the error, "Access of undefined property video" Now, am I just completely not understanding how classes work or is this a common problem?
I have a file which loads a series of SWFs. It loads one, allows it to play to completion, then stops. Right now, it will just wait for the user to press a button and select the next one. However, I need it to play them sequentially. Is there any way for the SWFs which get loaded to access the functions which control the SWF loading?
I'm sorry if this has been answered 1,000 times, but I am so confused with everything!! In the main timeline of my movie, I have a container movieclip called "content". I want to load an external swf into content, and then access the functions in that swf. I can load it no problem, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to access the functions, I can't seem to find it anywhere!
I'm creating a soundboard, and and I've been using Flash for about 2 weeks and Actionscript for about a week, so you'll have to excuse my ignorance. I've used google to look for specific things to no avail so here I am.Okay, so, I have a soundboard that, when pressing a button, it will hide or show certain buttons on the page, to give the feeling of multiple pages. All my visibility stuff works like a champ.
Right now, in the working version of my soundboard, I'm not using functions to instantiate my linkable objects, create the array, or populate the array to hold the linkable objects. I would like to use functions to make my code less obtuse. I looked around for a while trying to figure out how to pass an array of objects into a function but i haven't had much success. I'm not quite sure if it's even possible to do. These are the errors I get:
1120: Access of undefined property playArraySound001. 1061: Call to a possibly undefined method play through a reference with static type Class. 1120: Access of undefined property playArraySound001. 1120: Access of undefined property GordonSoundArray. 1136: Incorrect number of arguments. Expected 1.
The first code is what works, the next code is the stuff that doesn't work.This is the working version
Code: //////////// CODE FOR PLAYING SOUNDS //// This is creating an instance of the Linkable object var playArraySound001:Link_10_minutes = new Link_10_minutes(); var playArraySound002:Link_3_eggs = new Link_3_eggs();
how to access variables that are declared in a movie clip from a function declared in that same movie clip.
i.e. **************************** var int1 = 1 var int2 = 2
[Code]....
I'm trying to do this in the main movie clip of a movie that I plan on importing dynamically in another movie. I've tried to use this.int1++, but I think that flash was looking for a variable that belongs to "myfunction" when I did that. I could just use _root.int1++ but like I said, I plan on dynamically loading this into another movie, in which case it would be pointing to the wrong movie.
I was wondering if ActionScript had some way to call functions and classes from variables, like they do in PHP:
function funcname() { print "Potatoes come from tree"; } $function = "funcname"; print $function; // Prints out "funcname" $$function(); // Prints out "Potatoes come from tree"
In case you don't know the syntax for PHP, you should know that anything perpended with a $-symbol is a variable.
I have a flex application that loads swf files and displays them using the SWFLoader object.is there a way to provide different classes and functions for the swf application to use? [code]...
I have a Flash application that creates a sort of powerpoint presentation. All the 'slides' are stored in an XML files which is read and processed.
I'm trying to build the presentation using this XML file. At the moment, my main class has it's initial function main and a static function processXML main initiates my database class with a function called initDB. One of my issues is that initDB forgoes processing because it's dependant on an event listener. On completion of loading the XML files, the event listener initiates my static function on my main to create objects from this file.
The issue is that because the event listener continues the processing (after an indeterminate amount of time), the functions are no longer controlled by the main class.
