ActionScript 3.0 :: Add A Child Or Control A Timeline MCcontainer From A Class?
Mar 25, 2010
having some issues migrating to AS3...How can I add a child object to a empty movieClip already placed in the timeline. Something like this.n timeline first frame there is an empty MC instance named "clipInTimeline" and in framescript I call:
import assets.contentControl;
var getContents:contentControl = new contentControl();
In AS file:
I have a main .swf from which I am loading a child .swf into using this code.[code] Once the .swf is loaded in though, I want to be able to use basic timeline control functions like stop(); and gotoAndPlay(); on the child .swf from the parent.
I have a basic xml driven portfolio. The xml file holds the path to the portfolio pieces (external .swfs). I have a main navigation that moves from project to project and a subnavigation to view individual pages of that project.The subnav is where I have the problem, I simply want to call gotoAndPlay("framelabel") of the designated mc. It seems that you can no longer call to the timeline of child movieclips as you could with AS 2. I've found some examples Except the examples discuss access of nested movieclips on the stage with assigned instance names. But the problem I'm facing is that I have each item pulled in via the loader Class then the objects are pushed into an array and my subnav needs to access them dynamically via array notation.something like this:
PHP Code: public function loadMe(){ //var l:Loader = new Loader();
I have a menu btn that is created via an external class. I want to move the main timeline of my flash file to a frame label but I'm having a hard time referencing the main timeline via my external class code.
How do I control the timeline via this external class.
I've been trying to switch from AS2 to AS3 by forcing myself to use AS3 on every project and never revert to AS2 no matter what the problem may be. Doing this, I've learned a lot so far, and it has shown me that AS3 has the potential to be much more logical and easier to manage, but every once in a while I run into a problem in which research doesn't prevail.
At the moment I'm working on a project that uses the Union Platform. My goal is to make all control over User1's "Reactor" API managed by a single class.
Anyways, I've ran into a very limiting problem that I can't seem to get by. I can't figure out a way to call the root object and be able to call it's functions from a class!
Here's one of the methods that I've tried (No errors were reported, but it did not work) -
As you can see, I tried to pass "this" as a MovieClip in hopes that I would be able to use the MovieClip's class functions. (Which is most likely very nooby and completely wrong since it's probably not considered a MovieClip reference, but what do I know?) Everything is fine, except the swf does not go to frame 2 when readyListener() is called. No errors are outputted either.
i'd like to control MovieClip timeline witch contain several DisplayObject (like Sprite, Button, ...) these DisplayObject have Motion (AnimatorFactory). How can i do seek frame-by-frame the MovieClip Timeline and use the currentFrame to control all Motion child.
I am trying to manipulate (move up and down, enable/disable and launch a form) child controls inside a panel control. However I am unable to get the id of the child control on which the click event occurs. To illustrate, I am trying to create similar functionality as is available. I am trying to create the up-down buttons that you see in the image at http:[url].......
I'm trying to call a function in one child class (Circle.as) from another child class (Wedge.as). Circle.as is instantiated by the document class (Tree.as), and Wedge.as is instantiated by Circle.as. How do I do this? This is my code:
Tree.as package com.treediagram { public class Tree extends MovieClip {
[code]....
How to call a function in a Class from another Class?but it was a bit hard to follow as it relates to my problem. One of the solutions worked, but was commented as being bad form, and another did not work, so I want to make sure I structure my code properly.
Why does a child movieclip only show the first frame within the IDE, regardless of where you are in the parent timeline?If you throw a movieclip with 25 frames onto the main timeline, which also has 25 frame, you don't see the nested movieclip's frame-progress while you scroll through the main timeline.Is there a setting somewhere in preferences or somewhere that will enable you to see a nested movieclip's frame position from the main timeline? Like you do with After Effects composites?
On my main timeline, I load a mc from the library with:
text_content.attachMovie("text_content", "text_content", 10); There is a marker inside this mc called "news". I need a script in the main timeline that will gotoandStop "news" within the "text_content" mc.I have tried, amongst others
I have a movieClip with one frame on the timeline containing one child whose instance name is "myContent"I am using this function to swap "myContent" with any number of possible class instances.
I've loaded an external SWF into an empty MC named "M1" using this[code]...
Now I want to control the timeline of the external SWF from the main movie timeline. How do I reference the child of the M1 object in AS3? example: M1.child.stop(); (doesn't work of course).
I made a class that creates a "kind" of menu with data from a XML file and basically what it does when it is called is create a emptyMC (a container), add a childMC (a square) and add another child (a text label). When I create the container I'm trying to add a MouseEvent that can act on each the container instances but all I can get is a MouseEvent on object containing all the added MCs. The code follows.[CODE].....
i have a BasicMap.as that takes an Array and populates itself with the MC objects passed to it by a String reference.it inherits from Sprite, and so it just places the objects on its self.then i have a class that inherits from that class, and gives a little more functionality to it, but in order for it to do that, it needs to place the objects not on itself, but instead inside a holder Sprite, so here is my problem:
I would like to store the value from combobox or text area-MovieClip in MyClass and then I'd like to read this from another frame in *.fla file only this :) have you another code? what can I write in frame 2 Miclass and frame 3
I think this is a pretty simply problem but I do not seem to be able to pull it off. Basically I have a parent class A, and a child class B.Class A instantiates class B with addChild.There is a shared object which is being updated from a java server (red5) that has an event listener attached to it in class A.I have a function in class A which will pass certain, specific updates from this shared object to class B.The problem occurs is that when class B is instantiated, the event listener from class A doesn't work anymore. I have not removed the event listener from A.?
Lets say I have a Main Document Class called Main. I also have a child class called childClass that call a function from the Main class and is also imported in the Main class. How should I call the function? I tried this , but when calling the function, it's getting me error.
I need to call the class into to my control as file. The problem I'm getting now is this error. "environmentTab.lightsButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, selectLights);" environmentTab is a instance name of a movie clip that is on the stage of my .
Where can I find ready-made buttons that will control an FLV and a timeline together? I have a swf with an FLV and I animate images and phrases on a movieClip timeline timed to what they say in the flv. I set up cuepoints that trigger the animations, so when users scrub, pause, etc. the timeline eventually catches up with the FLV, but it would be a lot nicer if the pause, scrub, etc. would do the same to the timeline and there was no lag time.
For instance, in the below code a parent can control a SWF child's function "alert ()". But how a SWF child can control parent's function "ReceivingChildMsg()" ?
In Flex/Actionscript.When writing an on mouseMove event on a Canvas control for example, how could I check to see what control if any is under the mouse pointer at a particular coordinate?
Currently, I have a requirement need to get the full resource path in runtime, IF POSSIBLE.Here is an example: I have a action script and using a MovieClip resource. Now, I have a action script variable ctrlVar that is pointing to a child control , whose id is, for example, contorl1. And the real path I can find from fla file should be, for example, parent1.parent2.parent3.control1. And every parentX is a id ( not a type ).
in AS2 how would i use the down arrow key to make the timeline play? at the moment i have this and i presume i need to put something after that to make it play. [code]but i presume this is totaly wrong because the "stop();" doesnt stop the clip when the "if (Key.isDown(40))" bit is after it.
I made a MovieClip called Stone and I made a StoneBackground child in it. What I want to do is make a grid of the Stone image but everytime with another background I tried this:
On the main timeline I've got a movieclip, inside this movieclip I have some elements. Can I manipulate those elements from the main timeline through AS3? How?
