I am trying to manipulate (move up and down, enable/disable and launch a form) child controls inside a panel control. However I am unable to get the id of the child control on which the click event occurs. To illustrate, I am trying to create similar functionality as is available. I have an Movie Clip in Flash that have subobject of button type which has subobject of input text and movie clips. Right after creation core Moveclip all subobject are set to null, when I expect them to be valid objects.

MC_Core_design was created in Flash and exported to Actionscript. I've done this for button_1 class aswell. The code was written using Flex. When I comment out both lines that result in error I get correct view of the core Movie clip with all subobject. How can I set subobject properties right after object creation?
I want to loop through a movie clip and assign a function to each of the clip's child movieclips. when i do a for...in loop and then do a typeof() trace I get "string" and obviously it won't let me assign lets say 'onRollOver' functions to the children.

Currently, I have a requirement need to get the full resource path in runtime, IF POSSIBLE.Here is an example: I have a action script and using a MovieClip resource. Now, I have a action script variable ctrlVar that is pointing to a child control , whose id is, for example, contorl1. And the real path I can find from fla file should be, for example, parent1.parent2.parent3.control1. And every parentX is a id ( not a type ).
Here it is: In scene 1 i have a movie clip(1), and inside that clip, i have another clip (2) The thing is, i want to push clip 2, and when i do that i want to go to a diffrent frame in clip 1. The thing is i cant seem to control clip 1 with clip 2. I think its probably because i have to tell clip 2 that its clip 1 its commanding and not the root in scene 1 or something.
I have a basic xml driven portfolio. The xml file holds the path to the portfolio pieces (external .swfs). I really have two questions: How do I affect both a movie clip and its child movie clip in the same function? and how do I pull info from one component into a function for another? My basic setup is a movie clip of font choices, one on each frame: "bodyText_mc." Each of these frames has a child clip "bodyText_mc.bodyText" with alignment choices for the font. For instance, the user picks "Script" in the first ComboBox and then picks "Align Right" in the second. (All of this text is static because I need more design control that I can get with dynamic text.)

I tried placing that code on the main timeline, inside mc_allPages, inside mc_buttonMenu and split up into both buttons appropriately for btn_home and btn_contactUs.Sometimes the animation would stop on frame 10 and sometimes it would just play through to frame 20 and ignore the stop(); I put on frame 10 inside the mc_allPages movie clip.However, whenever I pressed the button ( btn_contactUs ), it never went to the frame labeled "contactUs" in the allPages movie clip.
I am trying to place buttons inside a movie clip to control the timeline of the same movie clip. This does not seam to work like buttons on the main timeline. When I play the movie the cursor does not turn into a hand and the rolloever affects only sort of work. I have read about controling the movie clip with buttons on the main timeline, but I need one of the buttons to change halfway through the movieclip. I want to be able to jump to interior shots while in the exterior section and vice versa. It would seem that button would work the same way inside a movie clip as they do on the main timeline, but that does not appear to be the case. I am using CS3. Action scrip 2.0 is selected, but I could change it to 3.0 if it would make a difference.

I have a parent movieclip (present_content_mc) that has two nested movie clips, players_content_mov is the first one. It's on frame 6 of the parent clip. The second movie clip, bios_mc is on frame 7 of the parent clip.

I have 2 movie clips, let's call them mcParent and mcChild. mcParent is a movie clip on the stage, and mcChild is a movie clip inside mcParent.I want to listen and execute a function (which is defined on the first frame of the stage), when mcChild is clicked. So I add the following script on the 1st frame of the main clip (stage):

The clickChild function, however, is never called. So for whatever reason I am not receiving the event.
PS: I cannot add the event to mcChild. I know, that would be easy, but I need to have it this way, because when mcChild is clicked, I want to fade out mcParent (the clip that is on the stage).

I have a portfolio page with several trailer thumbnails (a portfolio list). If you click on each, the page changes and you see the trailer in a video player, plus more info about the film.
