View 2 RepliesI am currently developing a dynamic LineChart in FLEX 4.I am implementing a Tree control next to my LineChart, which will filter the LineChart dataprovider and lineseries. The tree control has several branches and ultimately 5 children (leaf nodes) at the bottom of the last branch.I need the leaf node/children to be displayed as checkboxes inside the tree control.As I understand,this will require overrides in the TreeItemRenderer class.This is where I am a little confused on how to implement that.Currently I can distinguish between leaf and branches using this code, in my main MXML component.I added this because it may be helpful to some beginning FLEXdevelopers, such as myself, who cannot easily find this functionality documented well:

I am looking at the TreeItemRenderer override class from the following example here: In the example, they override the "createChildden" super function to add checkboxes to the tree control.My question is, can I override the createChildren function directly in my MXML component, and not have to use an entire class file to override this functionality? Must I re-invent the wheel to do this?Also, how can I distinguish that my treeItem is a leaf node and not a parent, in the override function? I only want to add checkboxes to the leaf nodes, how can I differentiate? The following example adds checkboxes to all branches and leaf nodes, but I want to add checkboxes only to leaf node/children. How would you approach that?

I have a flex application and have embedded a flash (SWF) file into it using <mx:SWFLoader>. There is an "Exit" button on the Flash file. I want to be able to handle the button click event on the flex application.
So when that button in the flash file is clicked, I want to perform an action in the parent flex application.

I Have the above code, looking at all the examples I canf ind online I have done everything correctly, yet, i still dont have my control bar
when inspection the number of children each element has in eclipse, the control bar numChildren property goes up, but the panel doesn't so its as if its not getting added.

This panel will be used by enterprise customers to manage their products.
Do you think that the flash actually has a future? think it is reliable to use flash in such an application?
I have a video player that has a clip on it, called sliderTarget. on ROLL_OVER, a thumbnailsSlider comes down from the top, showing thumbnails of other available videos to play...
Problem is, I'm having trouble with the layers, so that when I roll over the thumbnailsSlider, it doesn't register, since I'm really still on the sliderTarget. If I swap depths, then the thumbnailsSlider slides away since I've officially rolled out.[code]...
I've got a main flash index file (fla_main.swf) which acts as a header/menu that concurrent pulls in external movies (ie, content pages) when sections are selected. There's no problem with that at all, but I do have a soundtrack control panel that is an external mov loaded in (soundctrl01.swf). There's 3 music tracks and options to stop, start, next track etc. All the usual stuff, vars loaded by "loop01.new Sound();" etc and played/stopped with the var instances. Anyway, the mov starts with loop01 playing and then allows the option to skip etc, working fine on publishing but when the fla_main loads it in theres no sound on any loops. Is this an issue with loading sound vars and external movies?
View 5 RepliesI have a Tree Control inside my Flex Application which I want to edit on a doubleclick on a tree item. I found the properties doubleClickEnabled= "true", doubleClick="startEditMode()", and editable="true". With these functions I can detect a double click and I can change the editable property to true based on a double click. The problem is that after I double clicked on a Item i have to click once more to really enter the edit mode. That doesn't seem to be intuitive at all..

I have not been able to get the if/else statements to work for the button. Could someone tell me what is wrong with this script(below)? 1-4 are the tracks in my library and I have made the export linkage for all them.

i have a question while reading Flex 4 Cookbook i came across the method to dynamically adding control to the container controls but nowhere i came across with how to provide them with the dynamic properties and events like they have created a button dynamically inside a group control but what good a button be if i cannot give it an event dynamically. in the same way i want to add a tree view inside a vbox but what good that be if cannot provide a data provider to it dynamically.actually i am creating an web application where i add the tree view to a vbox and i want to the data provider should also be dynamic depending upon the option i have selected in the combo box.

I've loaded an external SWF into an empty MC named "M1" using this[code]...
Now I want to control the timeline of the external SWF from the main movie timeline. How do I reference the child of the M1 object in AS3? example: M1.child.stop(); (doesn't work of course).
I made a class that creates a "kind" of menu with data from a XML file and basically what it does when it is called is create a emptyMC (a container), add a childMC (a square) and add another child (a text label). When I create the container I'm trying to add a MouseEvent that can act on each the container instances but all I can get is a MouseEvent on object containing all the added MCs. Now, I have a action script variable ctrlVar that is pointing to a child control , whose id is, for example, contorl1. And the real path I can find from fla file should be, for example, parent1.parent2.parent3.control1. And every parentX is a id ( not a type ).

I have decompiled the movie to see its inner workings, but I know nothing about Flash, so I'm mostly in the dark. I have a basic xml driven portfolio. The xml file holds the path to the portfolio pieces (external .swfs). I have a main navigation that moves from project to project and a subnavigation to view individual pages of that project.The subnav is where I have the problem, I simply want to call gotoAndPlay("framelabel") of the designated mc. It seems that you can no longer call to the timeline of child movieclips as you could with AS 2. I've found some examples Except the examples discuss access of nested movieclips on the stage with assigned instance names. But the problem I'm facing is that I have each item pulled in via the loader Class then the objects are pushed into an array and my subnav needs to access them dynamically via array notation.something like this:

I have a movieclip inside the OVER on a button, right now I have an animation that causes the button's brightness increases from 0 to 10 over 24 frames and then come stops because of a stop (). I now intend to add an animation after stop () which gets the button's brightness goes back to 0 again when you no longer hold the mouse over the button. I would therefore like to make some kind of mouseOut event that allows Movieclip go to the next frame. I have tried to insert a target path but it seems that it can't reach the movie clip inside the button.
