I would like to pass a value from a text box on stage as the URL or filename to the NetStream.play() argument. example:
var url:String = url_text.text;
var conn:NetConnection = new NetConnection();
conn.connect(null);
[Code].....
The point of the matter is that I'm pulling the values from JavaScript/HTML using the ExternalInterface which changes as the user selects next on a HTML page. The page name (URL) is being parsed and passed back as the video filename. I'm using the text boxes currently just to test/view the values being received and sent to JavaScript. The value send and receive fine, I just can not seem to pass the value into the NetStream.play(JavaScriptValue).
function getTextFromJavaScript(str:String):void {
sending_ti.text = str;
var jsArgument:String = sending_ti.text;
[Code].....

I am in the process of writing a custom script for our internal SharePoint system that will allow for multiple file uploads on list items. In order for this to happen, I was wanting to use a flash file input (to select multiple files at the same time) and then pass an array of file paths (local to the user) into my ASP page to do the actual uploading.Does anyone know of a SWF multiple upload plugin that allows this? I've looked at Uploadify and cannot find what I need there.

Does flash.display.Loader determine the file by filename or header?
The reason why I ask is that I'm getting an IOError: "Unknown File Type" when loading an swf which has a strange filename (in the form of "filename.randomnumbersandletters.swf").

I'm making a simple RPG platformer where a character will pass over an object. When the action key is pressed and the character is over top the object, I would like a block of text to appear on the stage with a close button to cancel out.
I would like to know how a person would go about making a "pop-up" text box.

I am doing a simple text effect that I found on the internet and modified so that it has a flashing cursor. The text effect uses a symbol that is a dynamic multi lined text box and was given the following code:
Code:
onClipEvent (load) {
this._visible = 0;
txt = chr(starting);
steps = final-starting;
[Code].....
The problem I am having is trying to make the string "Do you need specific solutions?" run on two lines when the text is generated in the text box. I have already tried the obvious "Do you need specific solutions?"; and "Do you need specific solutions?";

Here is the situation: I have an XML document which I rip through using a for Loop, and I place the data into an array. From there I tell the data where to go. I have an attribute in my XML called 'link' which contains a URL, now I want to spit that out into a separate textbox and have it also link to the given URL. I have the URL stored in the array just fine, and I can even spit the URL into the textfield, my only question is how to make it link instead of just being normal text?
I hope I explained this well, but the basic gist of it is I have everything working except for adding the hyperlink.

i want the user to click on the relevent button, and this will add an accented-character (such as "" to the textbox they are typing in.here is my code so far:
[AS]on(release){
textbox_cont = _root.inputtext.inputtext.text;
accent = "u00E0";
output = "";
[code]....
1: when the user clicks this button, the accent is added to the input textbox, but they have to click on the textbox again before they can start typing.How can i set it so they can continue typing straight away?
2: - more importantly my rather basic code only adds a character to the end of the textbox-contents. At present, if a user wants to edit text they have typed, they cannot insert accents.How can i set it to add the character where the user has placed the (flashing) cursor?

I am setting a string variable to the value of a input box in my movie but Flash also seems to be adding a (Carrage Return) to the end of it's value. This is not something i am typing. Is this normal or am i doing something wrong, i can't seem to find where it is coming from. If this is normal, what is the best way to prevent this from happening as it is causing me problems when i use this variable later.

I am generating the following text box and the data in it dynamically:
_root.createTextField("recipe"+i+"_txt", _root.getNextHighestDepth(), 5, 100, 600, 400);
The problem I am having is the text that is generated only stays on one line and therefore doesn't fit into the text field. I know there is a way to add the multiline property to other types of components but can this be done dynamically?

I can't get the letterspacing property to function in a dynamic text box, I have tested it with color and it works just fine. just letterspacing. And I have embedded the font, so I know it isn't that. The code affecting the text box is this.
Code:
var txt_box0:TextField
var format1:TextFormat = new TextFormat();
format1.letterSpacing = 4
//trace(format1.letterSpacing)
txt_box0.setTextFormat(format1)
Those working with AS2 have had similar problems but managed to fix it by typing "setNewTextFormat", which has been phased out in AS3.

I have tried two flash upload components, swfupload and uploadify, and both seem to generate POSTs with a "Filename" parameter. My problem is that the service I'm posting to has a strictly specified set of allowed parameters and Filename is not one of them.
So, is it at all possible to remove this parameter from the post?

I think this is almost impossible, or at least very difficult. The thing is: I wanted to make a guestbook on my site (inside flash) but my server doesn't allow me to use php. So the only other way (I think) is to use a remote script-host. So that's what I did, I found one on scripthost.com. It's a very simple one,it just changes a html-file everytime a new entry is entered. What I want to do now is to extract all the things that are in the html-file and put them in textboxes. Is this possible? I searched a little bit and I found that I could use the server side include tags to read a html-file to another html-file (inside a div) and then use javascript to read the div and send it to a textbox in flash.

I have some button code on frame one. that looks like this:
[AS]on (release, keyPress "<Enter>") {
mylogin = new LoadVars();
mylogin.password = password;
mylogin.username = username;
[code]....
basically sending and recieving variables from a php page. I want to be able to specify what my textbox on frame 5 says in the onLoad statement. Is this possible?
Currently the only way I have been able to get the text to display is either to use the textbox variable and declare that in the onload statement, or to put textbox.text = mylogin.message; on the actual frame.I doubt there is a way to do it, because the actual textbox hasn't be created yet, but if there were a way, that would be nice.

I have a basic flash file with a button, when you hover over it, an object with dynamic text appears. Now I want text from an XML file to be pulled from it into my dynamic text box. This is what my code in my actionScript looks like so far...
Code:
function DisplayInfo(){
var title = items[i].firstChild;
var items = channel_xml.firstChild.firstChild.childNodes;
box.text1.text = title.firstChild.firstChild.nodeValue;
menu_md._visible = false;
box._visible = true;
[Code] .....
How to simply grab the info in the description tags and whack it in my dynamic text field?

I've got a movieclip with a blank dynamic textbox inside. On frame 1 of this movieclip, I have the actionscript to load the contents of an external .txt file into the dynamic textbox. The problems are:
1. I have an <img> tag in the external .txt that doesn't work (actually, the text does wrap around where the img is supposed to be in the dynamic textbox, but the img itself is not appearing.
2. All <p> tags don't work, but <br> does.
3. I have an ampersand (&) in the .txt file and all text is cut off at that point when loaded into the dynamic textbox. I've tried escaping it (&) and using & to no avail.

I have downloaded an xml gallery (as2) as we needed one for an old as2 file. Now I mostly use as3 but thought as I only needed to tweak it there would be no probs. Of course, it rarely works out that way. The problem is, text loaded from the xml file is displayed with its corresponding image. This works fine in the file.When I load the SWF into another SWF however, it all works EXCEPT the text doesn't show at all?? Whoever made the gallery used 'device fonts' in the textbox, I don't know if this has anything to do with it. I tried changing the textbox to dynamic and embedding characters but still nothing.

I'm new to flash as a whole but it is necessary for a project that I'm working on. How to make a scrolling dynamic text box through trial and error, and I'm proud of that feature. But now I need to know if two things are possible. Can I create a hyperlink (if I can call it that) that will pull documents off of the web? And if so what is a sample function. The second thing I would like to know is can I embed an image file into that dynamic text box? If so how can I do that.

What I am looking for is the code to apply to the buttons on the external swf file that has the controls to control the playing of the movie.

I am trying to retrieve my SWF's referring document filename. For example, if index.html is calling mymovie.swf, I want to return index.html. I know this can be done through a combination of scripting and flashVars, but I would like to avoid that for security purposes. The flashVars variables can be seen by anyone who knows how to view source. Is there a way to accomplish this solely in Actionscript? or Flex?
