I am setting a string variable to the value of a input box in my movie but Flash also seems to be adding a (Carrage Return) to the end of it's value. This is not something i am typing. Is this normal or am i doing something wrong, i can't seem to find where it is coming from. If this is normal, what is the best way to prevent this from happening as it is causing me problems when i use this variable later.

stage.focus = myInputBox
is in the constructor, the user must tab or click the inputbox to obtain focus.

Maybe someone knows what's up. I've got an input textbox and a dynamic textbox, and I've got a key listener so that whenever you type in the input appears in the output. I've embedded numbers and cap letters in both. This works locally, but when I put it live, you can't type anything into it?If you paste any content into it, it works fine, but, typing it doesn't. The weird part is it works when previewed in flash but not on a server.If you check the 'Custom plate' at the bottom of the 2nd column of options, it sets focus to the input box, and there the trouble happens.I'm thinking it's something with the key listener? I'll try to put the code here for your scrutiny. Weird that it's putting in a space in 'function' of the onrelease, that's not how it is, but also I don't think that part is the problem, but just something with the forum here.[code]
View 3 RepliesI'm making a simple RPG platformer where a character will pass over an object. When the action key is pressed and the character is over top the object, I would like a block of text to appear on the stage with a close button to cancel out.
I would like to know how a person would go about making a "pop-up" text box.
Right now I'm us Flash CS4 and creating a flash program in AS3. After a certain frame the dynamic text boxes that I have set up refuse to display text when required. I've gone over every line of code and every possible set up and I can't understand why it will not work. I've made sure all the dynamic text boxes have the instance names properly in place naming them all "talkBox". I've made sure all the code is written properly talkBox.text = "Insert Text Here!" There should be absolutely no reason in the world why the dynamic text boxes shouldn't be working.
View 1 RepliesFor some reason every time I insert a multiline input textbox, when I play my video and click on the texbox it puts the cursor on the second line of the texbox. I'm not sure why a second line was even available as the textbox should be empty. Anybody else experience this issue?

I have one total box as a dynamic, with the name totalbox. If i wanted to have the total box display the sum of all numbers from the input boxes, how would one go about this. I've seem formulas around, just not sure how to get the numbers to actually show up in the dynamic total box.

View 4 RepliesI have 3 input text boxes and I want to display a different part of an XML file to display (in a different textbox) depending on what input textbox has been selected.
I have achieved this by using 3 separate functions and it works fine but I want to use a switch statement within one function to achieve the same result. So the user will click on a textbox which calls the function and switches depending on the textbox to load the text from an XML file.
I don't know if using a switch statment in this way is even possible to do.

First project using flash and im having some problems with a combobox function im trying to apply. I have a combobox that I hope when selected populates an input text box on another frame. When I test when the input text box is on the same frame the code below works and the selection is shown, but i want to show the input text field on another frame and this doesnt work.

The problem is that when I add a "MediaDisplay" component to the scene input text's "onKillFocus" and "onSetFocus" functions won't work and as well as some other problems apear..I've seen that for these 2 functions I have to export with flashplayer 8 and so it is.

I'm working on a quiz file that imports data in from xml. Users enter their answers into an input textbox then click on a button to see if they got a question right or wrong. This works fine except for when a user enters a space after the last letter. The quiz doesn't always use one word answers so I don't think it's a case of using ignoreWhiteSpaces. I am currently working on a project for my computer programming course, creating an rpg game, and have already ran into a problem i've spent a few hours trying to fix; I have an input textbox with the instance name of "inputname". The player is supposed to put his name here and then click a button, instance name continuebtn, that will change to frame two on the scene. I'd like to restrict the amount a user can type into a textbox based on the width of an existing textbox on the stage. I played around with the max chars but when you type something like a 'W' it is considerably wider than something like a 'i' (current font is 19px vs 4px wide). I was playing around with .textWidth, but wasn't sure how to use that value to restrict the textbox.

Here is the situation: I have an XML document which I rip through using a for Loop, and I place the data into an array. From there I tell the data where to go. I have an attribute in my XML called 'link' which contains a URL, now I want to spit that out into a separate textbox and have it also link to the given URL. I have the URL stored in the array just fine, and I can even spit the URL into the textfield, my only question is how to make it link instead of just being normal text?
I hope I explained this well, but the basic gist of it is I have everything working except for adding the hyperlink.
