ActionScript 3.0 :: Adding The Same Event Listener Several Times?
Jul 10, 2009
I have a button which adds an Event.ENTER_FRAME listener. Once this listener has been added it's quite possible that the user might click the button several times more. Is the same Event.ENTER_FRAME listener triggered again when the button is clicked again? or does Actionscript ignore the command to create the listener again since the listener is already running?
I'm worried about memory leaks, and I'm worried that Actionscript might create multiple Event.ENTER_FRAME listeners with the same name, but it would suit me best if I could allow the user to click the button as many times as they want.
I am loading data from XML and can create MovieClips to hold the images and text data for each node. However, I can't figure out how to add an onRelease Event Listeners to each MovieClip.
I have recently moved from AS2.0 to AS3.0 and I am trying to get to grips with event handling. I am managing for things like key presses and mouse clicks
I am successfully tracing a string as either "login successful" or "login unsuccessful" from a PHP file on a local host and it traces as working in my Login class. Now I want to listen for the "login successful" string, currently tracing in my Login class and if it works, call an EventHandler in my Main class which will execute the next step.
Here's my code so far
PHP Code:
private function onLogin(e:Event):void { var loader:URLLoader = URLLoader(e.target);
for one of my project I need to recive some x,y data from a socket connection. I recuired do some movement for moveclips those has the x,y in its bounds. kind of mouseover event.
what I fegured out is, if I can dispatach a event and add a listenr to all my movieclips the moveclips will know that new data recived and it will check that the number and do appropriate action.
but the problem is I can dispatchEvent but if I add a listener to my movieClips it doesn't work.
/// this way works /// function readResponse():void { var str:String = readUTFBytes(bytesAvailable);
I feel like I am not 'getting' something very simple here:I have a bit of AS3 which uses a loop to draw X number of circles which are placed as data points on a 2-dimensional line graph:
Code: var circleSize:uint = 10; var line:Shape = new Shape();
I have an interesting problem that I'm attempting to solve and I could use some pointers.Here's a basic run down of the AS3 script:[code]The problem is that the event listener always pulls the url from the last object in the array when you click any sprite (as would be expected).What is the best way to have the event listener only deal with the specific url of the specific iteration that creates it?
im trying to create a separate class so i can create a custom mouse. But i need to make it so that every time the mouse moves then something happens. as in it dissapers and after 5 seconds the timer resets. I have the code and it works in my .fla file, but im not sure its possible to put it in a class file and have it be the class of the .fla.
On the main timeline, I have placed a movieclip (movieclipone) which contains some content. On frame 85 of movieclipone, there is a new keyframe which contains a movieclip that hasn't previously appeared in the movieclipone timeline, (moviecliptwo) which contains four buttons (btnone, et cetera).Is there a way to have code in the main timeline that attaches listeners to the buttons inside moviecliptwo, which, when pressed, trigger a function that increases a counter and tells movieclipone to go to the next frame? This is the code I am using right now:
I'm trying to fetch some data from php to flash and print it in a dynamic text field. I know this might be a silly question but i cant seem to work out how to get flash to process the code text_field.text = data.return_msg; without it needing an event listener.So i want the code to be processed as soon as flash discovers it basically.this is what i have at the moment:
var variables:URLVariables = new URLVariables("get_blog_info.php"); // Build the varLoader variable var varLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader;[code].... a nd i get this error:
TypeError: Error #2007: Parameter listener must be non-null.at flash.events::EventDispatcher/removeEventListener() at project1_fla::MainTimeline/btnName()
I am trying to learn JavaScript and I am wondering whether JavaScript has a event listener just like ActionScript's ENTER_FRAME. Basically, I want this event listener to listen "all the time" not just wait for any particular instance (mouse click, keyboard event) of event.
if I have an event listerner (mouse, keyboard, enterframe,....event) that is being triggered, and when it finishes its event, something that is able to detect the finished event listener and fire out another sets of event.
It works more like MOTION_FINISH in TweenEvent, but it is only available for TweenEvent only, what if I want to detect a mousclick, keyboard, enterframe or even touch event?
My stage has about 25 buttons on it. Each button when pressed to tweens the background to some random x/y coordinates and then loads an external swf file.This is all working, but the timing is off. How can I wait for the initial background tween to end before I make the loader call to the .swf file.Currently each button's behavior is called on the MouseEvent.CLICK event which calls a function that knows its unique filename.swf. I know you can add the MOTION_FINISH even to the tween event but then I would have to call a new function and lose track of the button that initially called it.
I'm moving on to my next massive programming project and I'm trying to decide whether I should code it in as 2.0 or 3.0. I came across the new click event model in 3.0. Right now it's looking like a pain in the butt to me. So now I have to make a function and add it as an event listener? what the hell? What's the benefit? I understand stuff like this makes AS a more complete language but it's kinda annoying.
This is a very basic question but I can't seem to find an answer. I have a mouse over event and have created the buttons with the mouse overs which is working great. I created the actionscript to go to a specific web page when a user clicks the button. Now, I need to add a label to the mouse over so when someone mouse's over any area of the button, it will show them a particular name for the button.
I am sure that this can be done using actionscript in a mouse event roll over command but I can't figure out what I need to show the text. Here is where I am:
how can i access event.target outside event listener method.say for example
my_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onC); function onC(e:MouseEvent):void { var m:MovieClip = e.target as MovieClip; } trace(m.totalframes);/// not working
now what if i want to get totalframe property of m instance, in short for every movieClip clicked.
I am doing this inside a module containing viewstacks and their childs.Calling onInit() on creationComplete of module.When I am inside one of the childs of a viewstack of this module and press Enter, it doesnt not invoke the listener function at all (bp inside this does not get hit).
private function onInit():void{ this.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN, keyPressed); }[code]..........
This might be more of a subjective question, but is it generally best practice to have one dedicated method per event-types that you add an event-listener?
Such as:
myButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, onMouseOver); myButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OUT, onMouseOut); //Somewhere else in the code...
[Code].....
And if you had a MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN and other relevant MouseEvents event-listeners to watch for, you could even set a switch statement to handle all the various MouseEvent types.
I have these buttons in a movie clip and I would like to have only one event listener for the parent, using event.target to point to the children. I have also tried event.currentTarget, and it didn't work.here is the code that works:
I've run into a bit of a snag regarding a project I'm working on. The code below sets up the mc holder which includes two dynamic text fields sFloor and sCompany these get their contents from an xml file. YAU is one of the additional mc's that I need added at runtime depending on the number shown in the sFloor field.
Code: var nameHolder:holder; var nameHolderX:Number = 145; var nameHolderY:Number = 267; var YAU:upArrow = new upArrow();
This is the code that add's the holder mc 25 times vertically down and populates the sFloor and sCompany text fields with what's in the XML file
Code: function loadText():void { var txtLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader(); txtLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onLoaded); txtLoader.load(new URLRequest("XMLfile.xml")); removeEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onLoaded); [Code] .....
it all works fine except that the "YAU" added mc is only added into the last instance on the list (which is the correct number) but I need it to add to any of them that meet the condition.
Adding / removing children (could be 10 times every few seconds)These children also have several animations associated with them
or
Adding all children once, and simply placing them out of stage view, and calling them back when needed to the stage (these will be still be running through their animation sequence while offstage, or they can be stopped) child.x -= 10000;
I have a code in AS3 that works when you rollover it. I need to use the same code but not with an eventlistener for a mouse event but a frame event when the timeline plays the clip
var coordX:Number = shaker_mc.x;var coordY:Number = shaker_mc.y;var timer:Timer = new Timer(10); shaker_mc.buttonMode = false; shaker_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER,startShake);shaker_mc.addEventListener(Mous
printableInvoice.addEventListener(batchGenerated, printableInvoice_batchGeneratedHandler);Results in this error: 1120: Access of undefined property batchGenerated. I have tried it as FlexEvent.batchGenerated and FlashEvent.batchGenerated.
The MetaData and function that dispatches the even in the component printableInvoice is all right. It I instantiate printableInvoice as an mxml component instead of via action-script it well let put a tag into the mxml line: batchGenerated="someFunction()
private var currentItem:uint; for(var i:uint = 0;i<10;i+){ addChild(arr[currentItem]);
[Code]....
So the problem is that the array only contains 6 items. So when it comes to the 6th item the currentItem resets and the next 4 items that are getting added are the 4 first from the array again. Now when i trace the items, the last 4 trace "null". how can i add items from the array multiple times without losing its properties etc?
I am using a service that returns JSON (geonames.org) and I'm putting the result in an array and dumping it to a datagrid. Now that works fine for one city like this [URL].. However, I want to call this service multiple times with different city names, so I created an XML list ad figured I would iterate over the city list and get the results.
My question is how do I do this such that 1) all the lists are combined into one arraycollection and 2) this seems like I will have to chain the calls and wait for results which may or may not come back, so I thought I would ask the group about the best practice, and or resources to read and examples to build from.
