I'm attempting to make a racing game. I want to make it so the user has press two other keys alternately in order to speed up. While the user is not pressing those keys the player should slow down gradually. I'd also like to add friction. Right now, I have code for basic movement:

when I'm running and not holding my keys down then the friction should slow me down. That works but the speed never stops at zero. I can't see him moving but I've put a text that draws his speed, because if the speed isn't zero and I'm not pressing any button then he will slide and that doesn't work look here: [URL]

I have a billiard ball system, whic detects collisions between balls and modifies their x and y velocities accordingly.I have included a friction variable and I have a very basic system for applying the force of friction for each iteration of movement:

This works to a reasonable level of satisfaction, but it doesn't quite feel right. The balls seem to take just a little too long to stop when they've slowed down to a very small velocity. I've tried tweaking the friction constasnt, but I still can't get sometthing that feels exactly right.
I have a simple animation that I would like to control the speed of the movie using the right an left arrow buttons. Keep pressing right arrow to speed up, and keep pressing left button to slow down.

When a pool ball is rolling fast, less of it's mass should be touching the felt, therefore, less friction. As it slows down, there should be more contact with the felt, and therefore, more friction. I have an idea for something at work. I want to have stars hanging by strings from the top of my flash document. if the user mouses over these stars I want the star to lightly swing in the direction the mouse went over at. Almost as if you had a cardboard star hanging from the ceiling and you tapped it with your hand. I know this probably includes friction but my tests don't seem to work out the way I want. Does anyone know how to achieve this?
View 8 RepliesI want to add an animated .gif file to my movie. So I created a new symbol and then imported the .gif file to the stage. This created the symbol containing the animated .gif.I dragged the symbol onto the scene where I want it. However, the animation seems to play at a different speed (fps) than normal. So I changed the fps of the symbol (at bottom of Timeline where it says "fps"). But for some reason this changes the fps of the rest of the entire movie.

This is duplicated when it reaches the other end of the screen.On my scene I have some action script which is acting as a timer. After a set time I want it to increase the speed of the movie clips, making the game become "harder". I seem to be able to manipulate the alpha of my movie clips but can't seem to trigger the speed increase.If i use a setInterval it seems to trigger the speed increase but it does it each time the movie clip is duplicated (so the delay resets, it does not change once and apply throughout)However, where I am changing the alpha I cannot seem to change the speed.

View 2 RepliesI was recently testing the Amazon MP3 Widget on my site. It was not appearing and I realized it was being blocked by my ad blocker plug-in that prevents cross site flash objects. I want to know if there is a way to tell people that they are missing this content. It seems like the ad blocker simply removes any embed code. What can I do to tell people they might be missing something they actually want to see. I'm hoping there's something similar to the no script tag, but I'm assuming its more than that.
View 1 Repliesi've many things on the stage and if any one is selected, it jumps to the next frame. here, very first it reads some data for the selected object and goes ahead. i was thinking it could be done by include command.in the first frame, i would make a variable and assign it a value (current selected object) and in the next frame i would write something like this.

include anyVariable+".as";
but i believe as3 does not support that.
I have 5 image segments on a single PNG file. I am trying to get each of the 5 segments to "fly in" left and right and be revealed inside of a mask. It works, BUT only if I refer to a very old tutorial using onClipEvent, where the ActionScript is placed on the image's MC instance name (messy!). For some reason, I can only get this to work if I publish in Flash 6. Using ActionScript 2.0, I am trying to publish this as a version 8 SWF. Not sure what is deprecated, but onClipEvent seems suspect. I have tried (and failed) using onEnterFrame. The buttons no longer get that PNG to move left and right. It might be easier to see it, than explain what I have going on...

I have recently started a new project, again and hit a stump. Im trying to make a mini game where you have to press two alternating buttons (x and z) to increment the bar. Now i started it, but it failed as pressing any button really fast incremented the bar. i used a _root.onEnterFrame = function() { code, but im having troubles. So what i want to do is have the user press the x button, and then have to press the y button and the bar increases and they have to do this rapidly.
