Well i have spent a long time getting the code i have so far from tutorials and the listener and function commands seem to work well for one button, but i need to know how to apply the existing code to the other buttons. This is the code i have:

The addEventListener will be in a forloop and applied to all the circles that are created. But how do I have the function apply itself to all the circle(s). How do I send an "circle" array as an argument or whatever it's called to that clicked function.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Listener Functions Applying To All MovieClips Using Class

Jan 14, 2009

I am currently having a mc in my library use a class. The mc is duplicated and put on the stage. Inside the class the mc gets a rollover state. Problem is that, although the rollover listener and function 'works', any action that is given is applied to all objects linked to that class.

Code:
Select allpublic class cities extends MovieClip {
private var theStage:*;
public function cities(cityid:int, cityname:String, mymc, ref:*) {
theStage=ref;
this.alpha=.85;
this.buttonMode=true;
[Code] .....

So pretty much on rollover on one of the mc's makes them all alpha = 1 and rollout makes them all alpha = .85 instead of the one being rolled over. It does make sense I guess because they are all calling that same function I think. I also tried referring to the specific mc (mymc) instead of the parent and this.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Dynamic Buttons, Different Widths, Applying Same Spacing?

Aug 19, 2009

I have done some research and am unable to find anyone who has any sample code on how to apply consistent spacing between movie clips that are different widths. Below is the code I have so far. I have set the inital x position to be the same as another object on the stage. What am I missing? I need another pair of eyes. I am disappointed that we can't access clips the same way as we did in ActionScript 2.0 where we could refer to the previous clip's x position or y position and adjust them accordingly. Bad Adobe for not documenting or giving examples on more complicated scenarios for real life work. example has to be in a for loop from AS 2:

ActionScript Code:
this["whichClip"+i+"_mc"].x = this["whichClip"+(i-1)+"_mc"].x+this["whichClip"+(i-1)+"_mc"].width;

ActionScript 2.0 :: Grasp Applying Generic Function To Mc OnEnterFrame's?

Dec 17, 2004

So, I'm a beginning to intermediate Flash and AS guy grappling with some programming concepts.I find that when I create my own functions from scratch, especially to define a generic function to different movie clips, in this case to their onEnterFrame functions, I get unexpected results.The bottom is some code from a new simple website I'm trying to code. My problem is that I can't get the function working in a generic way. I know I may be taking the completely wrong approach and totally missing something, but I am continuously coming up with problems (seems to be a misunderstading of scope at a deeper level, not simple variable timeline scope, but inherant scope within functions, etc..).So, I will just copy paste the code here and try and comment as much as possible. For claritie's sake I will remove button codes except option1 and option2.

//initialization of a few global and one timeline variable. These should
//be self explanatory in the code so I wont go into to much detail
//my probs arent in the detail but in the overall relationship of the

ActionScript 2.0 :: Dynamic Text Does Not Work After Applying Function

In a mc is a dynamic textfield, trough as this textfield gets his content. The textfield works fine and also the html text displays/works as supposed. No problem at all. But now I put a rollOver/Out on this mc with the textfield, the text shows up allright, but the html doesnt work anymore (I mean the hyperlinks, the rest is okay)

Code:
textmc.textarea.html = true;
textmc.textarea.htmlText = "<a href='[URL]'>link here</a>"
textmc.onRollOver = function() {
trace("hover on textfield");
};
textmc.onRollOut = function() {
trace("going off textfield");
};
So the problem is the rollOn/Out, if I comment out those functions everything is okay...

Multiple Buttons Using One Event Listener?

Aug 10, 2009

I'm trying to figure out if it's possible to run multiple buttons using a single addEventListener so that I don't have to create extra code. For example, in the code below I have my instance name "btnCA" which is on my movie clip. It works great and there are no issues with this code, but I need to add more buttons. Does that mean I have to copy and paste this code for each button or is there a way to add multiple instances to an event listener?

Sample code:

function moveNext(e:MouseEvent):void {nextFrame();}
prev_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, movePrev, false, 0, true);

It works fine, until I get to the last frame of the timeline (10th frame in this case). Then both buttons cease functioning. Why? The listeners should still be working.

The fastforward and rewind buttons on the FLV Playback components don't work like normal ones. If you've tried to use them you'll notice that they respond to a click event rather than a mouse_down event.

By taking apart one of the skins I've found that the fast forward movie clip is forward_mc.

How do I create an event listener for the buttons inside the FLV Playback Component?

If the instance of my FLV Playback component is called "movie," how do I access it? I've tried this, but it doesn't work:

ActionScript 2.0 :: Using Key Listener To Trigger Login Function Once?

Aug 3, 2007

code:
var keyListener:Object = new Object();
keyListener.onKeyDown = function() {
if (Key.isDown(Key.ENTER)) {
login();
}}
Key.addListener(keyListener);

However this triggers the login function twice, which causes the user to get a error saying they are already logged in. I have a button on the stage which triggers the same function.
code:
login_btn.onRelease = login;
And this works fine. How I can ensure that the keylistener only triggers the login function once?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Removing An Event Listener From A Function?

Mar 15, 2010

I am working on a game for my university project and I have run into a bit of trouble. I have the following code here:

function launchBall() {
this.stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN ,launchBallHandler);
function launchBallHandler(e:KeyboardEvent):void {
if (e.keyCode==32) {

[Code].....

Its set up so that when a ball goes off screen, it resets to a coordinate and launchBall is called.

LaunchBall then adds the event listener to see when the Space key is pressed and that starts the ball moving again. The problem I have now is I cant seem to get rid of that eventListener. I have tried removeEventListener and that doesn't seem to work. I have tried:

if (ball.xVel>0 && ball.yVel>0) {
removeEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN,launchB allHandler);

just below that code and that doesn't work either. It's not spitting any errors out at me but I am completely stumped.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Referring To An Object Outside Of The Function In A Listener?

May 31, 2011

I have four buttons named button1, button2, button3 and button4.  I want the code to trace the name of the button when the button is clicked.  This is just an eample of what I'm doing in my project.  The project itself is too convoluted to put up and explain.  My problem that needs to be solved is, how do I refer to the button in the Function?

var c:int;
var buttonName:String;
for (c = 1;c < 5;c++) {
buttonNum = "button"+c;

[Code]....

When I say "trace(this)", the code doesn't know what "this" is because I've taken this[buttonNum] out of the loop by having to put it in a Function.  How do I call to the object that is in the listener that called the Function?

Listener Not Calling Function For Event.REMOVED_FROM_STAGE?
