ActionScript 3.0 :: BitmapData Alpha Scrolling - Without Leaving Streaks Of The Side Of The Screen And Without Repainting The Entire Screen

I'm making a side-scrolling game, with a (theoretically) infinite background. I have a block engine that places the blocks on the bitmap canvas. Now here's the catch. I'm using the bitmapData.scroll() function. Now unless I clear the screen each time the character moves, it's going to leave ghost images of the border of the screen, like this picture: zanzlanz. tumblr. com/post/18857712784 If I clear the screen each time, then it generates a lot of lag (because it has to repaint the objects again). I'm a bit lost on how I can scroll without leaving streaks of the side of the screen and without repainting the entire screen.

The problem that I'm facing is in regards to the width of a sliding menu that I've created. The menu slides based on mouse x position and width of the movie. I would like the menu to fit to the entire screen regardless of the users resolution. I wanted to know if there's a way to detect a users screen width and then adjust the variable for screen width within my actionscript .fla if necessary.

I encountered on the building of my largest flash project to date. The project is a dvd-based presentation with audio, video and text that's xml driven.The project has been coming along nicely but recently a bug has popped up that I haven't been able to figure out. Here's what's going on:
There are three main sections in the swf, the intro screen, the main screen and the content screen. The swf is set to default to full-screen with the resizing and re-positioning of the elements built into a resize handler. Since each screen has different content, each screen has a different resize handler that is removed when transitioning to the next screen before the resize handler is applied for that screen.
For the first two screens, everything is working fine, but when you get to the content (third) screen (where the xml loads), the entire flash movie darkens, and nothing is clickable. This only occurs when the swf is in its default full-screen mode, if you escape full-screen the screen goes back to normal and the nav is clickable again. Also, if you've escaped full-screen mode before you reach the third screen, it remains normal and clickable.
I initially thought that it might be an issue with the event handler for the fullscreen, but the bug never appeared in previous versions with the same code. So I replaced the fla file with one that was not causing the bug and got a functioning swf out of it, even though it was including the same as3 files that the buggy file was including. I saved that file and sent it to the client, who has been successfully publishing from it without a problem. So I thought, problem solved, just a corrupt fla file. But now, any version of the swf that I publish has the problem, even ones that published fine earlier, and aren't using any of the new code that was being used when the problem started occurring. is it possible that my flash app has gotten corrupted or something? Has anyone ever experienced anything like this before?

I have some htmlText in a textField inside a MovieClip on the timeline. The MovieClip has a little (CS3) timeline motion tween on it - it grows and shrinks once. The htmlText is populated beforehand via ActionScript and the entire SWF sits inside a preloader "shell" that handles loading it and adding it to the displayList.
When the text expands - it looks fine. When it shrinks, the HTML bullets (UL and LI items) leave "trails" behind - and thus create a "streak". The funny thing is, if later on I move the playhead forward using gotoAndPlay(), the streaks disappear, even though it's not moving to a new keyframe for that MovieClip. So it's clearly a screen refresh issue.
I tried turning runtime bitmap caching on, and the bullets did not display whatsoever.

I have a Large moveable object that can be clicked and dragged around the movie, but how can I make so that if I border off an area of the movie the objects movement is limited to those corners. So the top left of the object cannot be dragged further than the top left corner of the border and so on.

I'm trying to get objects to drag and drop. Instead of dragging just the circle, it drags the entire screen. I can get it to work if I use "this.circle.startDrag()" but I want to be able to use the startMove and stopMove functions on different children, text boxes and other objects generically. I want to duplicate a 10 by 400 horzontal bar down the entire screen on a 550 by 400 document and have each one change colors randomly. I have this so far:

"square" is my horizontal bar of course. I've read the tutorials buy I'm still not exactly sure how duplicateMovieClip works. what determines how many times it is duplicated?Then I'll have to figure out how to get each one to move down 10 pixels it is duplicated so they are not just all on top of each other.

I want to print the screen using bitMapData.

I have it working but the image being drawn starts from the Top Left of the stage I need it to start x 15 and y 80 is there a way to do this? Ive tried bmd.scroll(15,80) but it just make the image look funny.

I have some timers running on a page that I am having trouble figuring out how to stop when I navigate away from that page, while the page is running.
The call is coming from a button on another movie clip, which is invoking a function on Main.as. The
function in Main.as does this:

how to kill the timers from the removedHander function. I tried removing the event listeners but that causes other error messages. I tried doing a test if the listener is not null, then stopping it. That apparently never runs (I used trace statements to test it). I tried testing if the timer was .running and then stopping it, but that didnt work either.

I am having an issue with my project showing up to the left side of the screen when I look at it on the web. how to center the project in the middle of the page. Here is another blunder I am desperate for help with. another project I am working on I screwed up by editing the timeline for EVERYTHING inside the movie clip instead of the timeline. now when I export this to be a mov. file it only plays for like a second. so I fixed that and copy and pasted the timeline from inside the movie to the timeline on my workspace. everything is showing up on the bottom right of the page.

My character is spawned in the middle of the screen, and i'm not sure how to make zombies spawn from the left and right side of the screen, and moving towards the middle. My goal is to make the zombies spawn automatically, and the character in the middle is able to shoot them down. I've just started working on AS3, but i know that i'll need to make an array to do this, but not sure how to implement this.

I have published my movie to take up 100% of the width and height of the screen.It takes up the entire height of the screen, but there is about a 10 pixel gap on the left and right side of the movie.

I'm working on a flash website which is published as a 100% x100% with no scale but I want to add a menu wich has to been shown always at the left of the screen. At home I've got a resolution of 1024x768 but on my work 1920 x 1200. In both cases I like to see the menu in left. Because i like to design some sort of paper strips wich are only visible for like a bit. On a mouseover it will be totally visible. Do I need to add some actionscript with a screensize detection and then some code with _y _x and stuff to place it or do I need to change the settings for the html publish? I posted this in the Flash MX2004 forum, but I hope I have better luck here.[URL] In that website, how do they keep some of the movieclip items locked on the edge of the screen? When you resize your screen, the items on the edges are the ones that moves correspondingly. And the fillers are near the middle part. Someone mentioned about adding a listener and act to a onResize command?

I am making items that minimize onto the side of the screen as little icons, I have that figured out. What i am trying to accomplish is making them minimize to a dynamic spot if there is not already one there. There a bunch of posistions that they could minimize to, i would like them to choose the next highest avaliable spot. Heres some code that will make them do that:

I am making a game where red squares spawn on the right side of the screen. So far the red squares spawn all the way up and down the height of the stage. The problem is that I want the red squares to spawn only in areas randomly below a certain height of the stage

Creating a screen shot from an flv on the same server works fine, but when I try to load the contentPath from a remote server the video plays fine, but the .jpg generated in the PHP file is blank with a white background.

Is it possible to keep an image at a static location on the screen when the page is scrolled down?
For instance, if I have a .swf with properties of 1700 px height and I am displaying an image (jpg) in a loader whose y position is 40px from the top of the screen when viewed in a browser.
is it possible to "float" that image so that it stays 40px from the top of the browser window when the user scrolls down to see the rest of the page?
I'm trying to set up a gallery and have a grid of thumbs displayed, each of which open a full-sized copy of the image on the thumb.
The thumbnails go beyond the bottom of the screen and when I scroll down to see more thumbs, if a large image is displayed at the time, it scrolls off the top of the screen.

I am trying to make scrolling text appear on a few screens, so that when I click on a button to go to the next frame the characters of a sentence will appear one after another as if someone is talking. This works a few times however when I go back to the first frame the following error occurs and the text no longer appears??

Simple question, pretty new to action script and not too sure which would be the best way of implementing this, but how would you scroll through an image if it is bigger than the screen. What I am thinking right now is simply dragging and dropping the image but that doesn't seem like the best solution.

how to do the following.
I have a map, placed on the stage in its entirety.I only want to show a portion of this on screen though. Then as the mouse moves to the edge of this visble frame I want to pan over the map in that direction. just can't work out how to do it. It must be a relatively simple process but for the life of me I can't work it out.
I'm thinking maybe some kind of mask then you move the map around beneath it? I've been trying to use a couple of scrolling tile-based games tutorials but this is less complicated and I can't sceen out all the extra stuff the game tutorials are doing.

I am loading external SWF files into a blank movieclip (content1) Problem is each SWF is different in height.I need to be able to do a full screen scroll but the scroll will only work with the main stage height, Is there any way to make the page scroll to the bottom of each external movieclip? At the moment it either clips off or I have to set the stage height to something like 1200px to scroll through all the text.

I am trying to make my screen scroll as my character moves to the edge of it, but when I get to the edge of the screen nothing happens, I think this could be something to do with my registration points but I'm not sure. I have added trace statements for debugging but no luck. I have included my Fla so you can see what I mean.
