Professional :: How To Clear Cache During Development

Mar 29, 2011

I don't want Flash to store the video and image files it pulls in when I test publish the swf. Somewhere it's keeping those files in cache, making it impossible to test a realistic download situation ( such as loading indicators, buffering bars, etc ) because the 'loading' file is immediately available in its entirety due to being stored in cache.

Clear Image Cache At Runtime?

May 20, 2011

I have an issue with downloading an image from a URL that is not getting updated at runtime. I'm using a URLLoader to download the file initially at the start of the app from some URL, then later on there is a call to the server which re-compiles the image into something else. After that the image is being downloaded again from the exact same URL, but as far as I can tell it's not getting the updated version, but is getting it from the cache that flash creates.

If I restart the application after doing all of this it gets the correct image when it downloads at startup, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get it to download the correct image at runtime. Does anyone have any idea how this can be accomplished?

But can I clear the cache? After trashing the files in windows, I don't see the files get downloaded again (with fiddler).

ActionScript 3.0 :: Clear Compiler Cache?

Apr 24, 2012

I remember reading something by theCanadian about this but I can't find it.I can't use the new Air API's in Flash IDE. I have followed the normal overlay instructions. Everything is correct in the application xml file, (3.3 namespace, swf version 16 is targeted).I deleted the xml, let a new one auto generate, but still failed to recognize the new APIs.

I changed the project from iOS, to android, back to iOS and now it works. So for that project at least, something was cached somewhere? Is there another way to "clear" some cache or memory related to this?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Reloading Movie To Clear Cache?

May 21, 2010

I have a Flash game that runs fine, and if the player loses he can retry by clicking the retry button. For some reason I have listeners from previous scenes that won't go away, or are malfunctioning, when the user hits retry and the game and starts back at frame one in the first scene (the actual game is at scene 2 but the retry takes them to scene 1). Is there a way that I can reload the whole movie so previous data won't show up when the player restarts the game? I am kind of looking for a "refresh movie" script for the .swf file.

Flash :: Layers In A Swf Refuse To Load (occasionally, After A Cache Clear)?

Jul 14, 2009

I have a swf with four frames. The first frame loads an external class that acts as traffic controller - looks at the root flashvars being passed in and redirects to frame 2, 3, or 4.

Frame 2 is a basic login screen. There's 5 layers - 2 background layers, the login screen, and a dummy text field. I also have trace statements on every layer, which I have speaking with javascript and writing out to the Firebug console. Since the swf requires database access to know what to do, it only works on a server.

The issue I'm having is that, occasionally, not all the layers on frame 2 load. All the actionscript on every layer fires successfully. What I'll do is clear my cache, and roughly 1 out of every 3 times, the only layer that's loaded is the bottom layer, or the bottom two layers.

I've removed the login movie clip and replaced it with dummy text - nothing. I put a preloader on the first frame - nothing. I created a loader swf to, in turn, load this problematic swf - nothing. I thought it might have something to do with order of rendering so I made those bottom layers semi-transparent - nothing.

Does anyone have any ideas of how to further diagnose this problem? While it's intermittent, it happens often enough to demand a fix.

CS3 Preload Multiple Swfs Into The Browser Memory Cache?

Feb 11, 2010

Flash CS4 using AS 2.0 for this.

Here's a simple problem I am having. I have a website made up from multiple swfs. Which open up over the index swf.

What I need to do is load 4 swf files into the memory so the transition between the page loads is smooth. The swfs are only a few kb in size but the delay in loading these (1 second) makes the transitions look very untidy. Once i've clicked on every section then the flashplayer has them stored in the cache so they run smooth, is there anyway just to load these in before the start page has loaded.

here is the website [URL]

ActionScript 2.0 :: Preloading Multiple SWFs Into Cache And Playing Them Sequentially?

May 17, 2008

I've tried endlessly to make sense of the solutions that other people have posted. But I cannot seem to get any code to work my my purposes, so I decided to post my own thread.I have a main parent Flash movie that I need to load 7 exteral SWFs into. Each of the SWFs is like its own scene in a longer movie. The external files are called:

mc1.swf
mc2.swf
mc3.swf
mc4.swf
mc5.swf
mc6.swf
mc7.swf

The final parent movie should play each external SWF movie sequentially so that it appears as one combined movie (so none of the loaded SWFs are actually playing at the same time - they should only play one at a time, one after another).I want to preload mc1.swf, mc2. swf and mc3.swf into the cache before the parent movie starts playing(and I would like to include a progress bar to indicate loading status). Once those SWFs are preloaded, I would like them to start playing sequentially while the rest of the SWFs load in the background.

Basically,I have a long Flash animation that I decided to split up into several individual movies.I've using the parent movie to seamlessly string together my individual movies to give the appearance of cohesion.I have determined that I should use the MovieClipLoader Class and loadClip() to accomplish what I am trying to do.However, I have a very limited knowledge of actionscripting, so this has been a major challenge for me.

I am optimizing the parent SWF for the web, and it's important that the video plays seamlessly, so I cannot put individual preloaders onto each external SWF. They have to preload at the beginning so that when each individual SWF is called, it's already loaded and no preloader is required.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Graphics Clear() Doesn't Clear Bitmap Data From BeginBitmapFill()?

Jul 30, 2011

I'm working on a game whose background has many layers that each scroll at different speeds.

Inside each layer I have a Sprite, I've started using graphics.beginBitmapFill, but what I've found is that the graphics.clear() function doesn't actually clear the contents set by the previous call to graphics.begin.BitmapFill. Each frame, I adjust the matrix to shift the layer as needed.  Then, I call graphics.clear() and graphics.beginBitmapFill() with the adjusted matrix. Since my layers have alphas in the bitmap, I can see the contents that was drawn the previous frame.

I am loading eight external swfs by way of eight buttons with actionscript to remove the swfs and sound after a new button is clicked. This works fine except that as soon as you get to the frame where the actionscript is all the swfs load at one time on top of each other. I don't want any to load until the button is clicked for the right one. MouseEvent listener works but only after all the swfs have loaded. How do I get the swfs to load only when the buttons are clicked. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Loading Other Swfs From Loaded Swfs?

I've gotten as far as loading the "loaded.swf" into the "start.swf" but my problem is I'd love to use that little loading action I made earlier without copying and pasting into the new movie the same actions for a different link. So, how do I load "loaded2.swf" into "loaded.swf" via the link in "loaded.swf"?

IDE :: Transitions Between External SWFs / Close Button For External Swfs

Aug 15, 2005

I recently created a site using the "Transitions between External SWFs" tutorial for Flash MX 2004. I use this to load the sections of my site into the main movie file. Each section is an External SWF file. When a viewer clicks on a navigation button, the specific external swf move will load and play. Currently, a viewer would need to click on another navigation option to close the current external swf file. I would like to add a close button to each of the external swfs so that a view has the option to close the window without clicking on a naviagtion link.

As3 :: Cache Image With It?

Nov 24, 2010

This is my first post here in StackOverFlow, and I bring you a problem that is hauting my development team.

We are in a project, using stand alone FlashPlayer as a news displayer. The news feed is a dynamic XML returned from a ASP.Net request and runs on Windows XP.

The problem is:- The display is running in a bus screen and sometimes the internet connection fails, but we still need to keep displaying images from the news already downloaded. When we manually put a string on a URLRequest it works. The image is downloaded from the server, cached by the IE8, and re-loaded from cache if the internet is gone. But, when we dynamic retrieve the image url from de XML and puts inside de the URLRequest method, the re-load from cache do not work.[code]...

Control When A Swf Is Loaded From Cache And When Is Not?

May 26, 2009

We have a web app. built in flash that allows customers to upload images and text, customize the container in which these will be shown (a swf file) and then embed the code into thier website. There is also a sharing options that allows their users to display this container, together with the content, on their websites. (For e.g you can see the container as the Youtube player and the content as the videos the user chooses to show). The swf container uses an XML file to know what to display.

Now, I am not a flash developer, but a person who takes care of the project. We are currently working on the app and the swf and we still find bugs. Every time we fix sth, I am told to erase my cache to see the changes. My concern is that the client/users might not see the newer version that we make available, but the old one. We can't tell them to erase the cache and we can't afford to renounce using the cache since the images are big.I was told that, sometimes, the browser does not see that the current version is a new one and loads it from the cache (actually, it never detected that there is a newer version and I always had to erase the cache). How can we tell the browser "now, load the swf from cache" or "now, don't load the swf from cache".

Professional :: Flash XML Cache In IE

Jul 18, 2011

I'm working on a project that includes several flash elements developed using an XML method. The objects work fine in all browsers except IE. Here is the behavior in IE. You can interact with the objects fine the first time through, but if you leave the page and come back, you just get a perpetual loading symbol. You can get the object back by right clicking and pressing play, but that is an obnoxious work around. I think it is a caching error in IE, but I'm unsure how to fix it given that it is not occurring in other browsers.

Why Dynamic Flashbox Not Using Cache

May 19, 2010

The flashbox I've created is a dynamic object - like a coverflow - that loads 8 images (4 channels with a background and forefront image) on its first load and then every 5 seconds loads up another channel to replace one of the other channels. There are 8 channels & 16 images in all and the whole process loops. The images and the data incidentally are loaded via an XML file. Instead of loading the 16 images from the start and then loading them from the cache, it instead constantly loads new images, keeping the older images in the browser memory. If you leave it on the page with the flashbox for 30 minutes, then the browser memory can rise above and beyond the 500MBs of RAM usage mark. Leave it longer and it still racks up - for instance, I had Firefox (this is with all browsers though) get to over 2.5GBs of memory being used earlier on today.

Flash :: Php - Xml Wont Cache?

Oct 31, 2011

i have a flash app that requests xml generated by a php script. The data doesn't change much, and i would like flash to cache the xml instead of loading it every time. I've been checking my access logs, and every single time i reload a page with the flash app on it, the php file is accessed and the xml downloaded.

I've read that flash doesn't control what is cached, as it just requests something from the browser, but nothing else that flash downloads (i.e. mp3 files that are supplied by the xml) doesn't get cached. So I'm not really sure what that means.

I've googled the heck out of this, but everything i find is telling me how to keep flash from caching stuff.

Here's the code i used (AS3):
