ActionScript 3.0 :: Create A Flash App To Put Data In Text File?
May 4, 2011
I'm trying to create a flash app that has 2 things inside. An InputTextBox which is called txt_userinput and a Button called btn_submit.
Bascially, the user just need to type in some word in the InputTextBox and press btn_submit. The data will then be sent to a testing.TXT in my DESKTOP. My .FLA file is in MY DOCUMENTS while the testing.TXT is in my DESKTOP.
Question 1: Question is, how do I make the data from txt_userinput to be sent to the .TXT in my DESKTOP?
For example, the user typed "Hello, how are you?" in the InputTextBox. In the .TXT file, I want it to show "Hello, how are you?".
PS: testing.TXT file is already created in the desktop, just waiting for flash to write the data in and keeps on adding more data in the future in the following format.[code]...
How can I save data to a text file and also append a record to data in an existing text file? I've used Authowrware previously and it was quite easy to create a large string of data (a comma separated list) and export that to a text file (and create the text file if it didn't already exist). I could then easily append additional rows of data (records) to the text file. We want to build a questionnaire that will store the data locally on the computer in a text file. Each record may have a few hundred data points in a comma separated list.
I'm looking to create a slideshow that needs to automatically advance, with each slide having 2 pictures and a short text description, each which would be unique for each slide. The file name for the pictures and description are contained in this xml, currently my XML file has the tags in the format <pic1> location.jpg </pic1>, each grouped for the slide they both need to be on.
I will be creating a program to use for data entry. I'll be studying zebras in kenya and I won't have the internet there as I'm recording the data. I'd like to be able to send the data I generate in flash to an external text file. I understand I need some sort of script to do that, but is this something I can run just on my machine? (I'll probably make the data into xml format).
i have prototyped a small flash (AS3) application to be used by 1st graders (district wide).. it is intended to be server based...(it works ok ) now my boss wants the data saved. i think i want to put it in a db.. i can collect studentID, numberCorrect, and numberMissed
Is it possible to pull questions from a data file into flash without having to create new frames for every question. This would be a multiple choice test. We currently hand type the questions into multiple frames and grade at the end.

We have a client who wants to share with us flash widgets whose contents can be updated using an external file. Our question is: Is it better to use a .txt file (such as notepad) or a .xml file to input data into Flash?
I cant believe that Flash will let you load data from a text file then doesn't allow you to do anything with the data other than display it. Surely there must be a way you can do something the data imported ie perform some calculations. Is this beyond Flash or is this something that has been addressed in AS3? All the tutorials I've found all stop at just displaying and 'swonking'.
...Anyway. Since college happened, I'm used to C++ storing data in .txt files and reading in from there. I'm trying to make a monopoly remake for something to do while Christmas comes, and I wanted to store all the card information somewhere. I thought of storing it in some sort of "Information Class" or perhaps just a text file.
I am trying to load a variable from data in a text file.I can read the text file fine but the variable data seemsonly to be available with in the function that reads it. I need to use the variable data outside of the function.This is the actionscript code i'm using.
var pathVars= new LoadVars(); pathVars.onLoad=function(ok) { if(ok)

I want to make a simple tick box questionaire in Flash (AS2) that stores data to a local text file when the user has submitted the form. So simple stuff like are you Male of Female etc... Is it possible for flash to store this information somewhere. It is for touch screens in an exhibition space so it wont be online.

This is the actionscript code i'm using.

[code]....
This is where the path_var becomes undefined
trace("This is outside the function... "+path_var); pathVar1="This is outside the function... "+path_var;
Can I Use data from external Text file for JavaScript alert message in flash? I wanted to change the alert message dynamically using the external text file.

I want to create a simple high score list of 10 high scores of a game. From reading the forums I seem to get the idea that flash cannot create a simple text file. I don't have php or asp but do have cgi capability. Does anyone know where I can find a simple cgi-script that will allow me to write the text the cgi receives to a simple text file: game.sco I want to be able to write a single long string to it so that I create a string of values and can load it back in using flash loadvariables. I can create the string in flash... but how do I write it to a text file using a cgi script? the text file would include this string...I already know how to read it and split it to parse it into arrays:
I want to create a file and write some data (userid) into the file at first run of my application, during the second run all the operation (will go to the next state) based on the file data, is it possible? How to create and write data into file?
I've made a component based on a mx:TitleWindow that contains linkbuttons that I'm using as a context-menu. The TitleWindow component contains link buttons like this:
[Bindable] private var _showEmailThis:Boolean = false; [Bindable] private var _showApproveThis:Boolean = false; [Bindable] private var _showReviewThis:Boolean = false [Code] .....
This component contains a large number of links and is re-used by multiple modules in the same application. Within each module, this component is used when a user clicks on a row in a datagrid. The code looks like this:
In "Requests" module: private function dgRequests_click(event:MouseEvent):void { menu.showApproveThis = true; menu.showReviewThis = true; }
In "Performance" module: private function dgPerformance_click(event:MouseEvent):void { menu.showEmailThis = true; menu.showReviewThis = true; }
As you can see, the visibility of individual linkbuttons is controlled within each module by setting boolean properties. If I alter this component to use a renderer, how can I control the visibility of the linkbuttons from the code in each module (there are over a hundred links with different functionality - not every link will be used in each module)? Note: it is not known from the back-end which grid within which module uses which link. This is set in the front end within each module's actionscript file. E.g., if the XML looks like this: [Code] .....
And I set the Email link to show in the module like this: private function dgPerformance_click(event:MouseEvent):void { menu.showEmailThis = true; }
How do I make it take effect? Is there a way to control the visibility of a linkbutton within an item renderer in a component from the module that uses that component?
I was wondering if it is possible to create a dynamic text field with actionscript, to load XML data from a folder but only when this folder contains any data.Is it possible to check through Flash if a folder contains an XML file and in that case to create the dynamic text field in order to load the XML file?
I want a class that I'm going to pass a short bit of XML data And then I want that class to create either a Sprite or Clip that consists of an image and some text based on the XML data Example my XML might look like
I know how to get to the data what I'm looking for is the best way to create this Sprite on my stage.should the class create a sprite or clip?should the class called to create an instance and then I addChild in my core script?
this is my current cv, painstakenly written in flash: [URL] I was told that I can use an external data file and load this into a flash file with xml, i am trying to make an xml file that will do what you see here above. But i cannot get the information to load properly where each title is separate (bold) and the description underneath it (plain text). i cannot get my cv to show up in a linear format as it only shows the first entry and then stops.
I have created a static text in my FLA file and for some reason when I convert it to a movieclip symbol, my setting of the text - such as the letter spacing - are no longer. It scrunches together and looks pixelated. Any knowledge as to why? It was not doing this a while ago but I don't see what I have changed!
