Jun 22, 2011I am using CS3 / AS3 to create a kiosk app. As part of the kiosk I need to create an external file that I can append with visitor comments (2 text fields and 2 radio buttons). These would then be approved by a museum administrator and copied over to another text file that gets read into the kiosk and displayed. I'm not having any trouble reading in an external file, but I'm finding so many conflicting things about writing an external file with AS3.

May 4, 2011I'm trying to create a flash app that has 2 things inside. An InputTextBox which is called txt_userinput and a Button called btn_submit.
Bascially, the user just need to type in some word in the InputTextBox and press btn_submit. The data will then be sent to a testing.TXT in my DESKTOP. My .FLA file is in MY DOCUMENTS while the testing.TXT is in my DESKTOP.
Question 1: Question is, how do I make the data from txt_userinput to be sent to the .TXT in my DESKTOP?
For example, the user typed "Hello, how are you?" in the InputTextBox. In the .TXT file, I want it to show "Hello, how are you?".
PS: testing.TXT file is already created in the desktop, just waiting for flash to write the data in and keeps on adding more data in the future in the following format.[code]...

What I need to do now is let the user define their own buttons and string values. For example I have a button that inserts "Hello" into the text. There are 28 of these 'title' and 'detail' pairs. The 'title' text is to fill a dynamic text box and the 'detail' to fill another dynamic text box depending on which section the user is mousing over.
My issue is getting the text from the file stored into arrays. For my test loop I keep getting undefined as the stored value, and i know it has something to do with converting a string value to object..

I don't have php or asp but do have cgi capability. Does anyone know where I can find a simple cgi-script that will allow me to write the text the cgi receives to a simple text file: game.sco I want to be able to write a single long string to it so that I create a string of values and can load it back in using flash loadvariables. Nov 16, 2010I am trying to create html links from a external xml file to be dynamically added to a text field (im using flash builder)the process i am having trouble is: -Loading an external swf which contains the textfield loading external xml which contains the cdata with links adding the cdata to the htmltext property of the textfield the link is showing correctly, the mouse turns into a hand... but when i click on the link it doesnt work. i have seen a few forum posts similar to this problem but all are using textfield control in flash builder but im trying to add the cdata into an externally loaded swf which holds the textfield.

I've used Authowrware previously and it was quite easy to create a large string of data (a comma separated list) and export that to a text file (and create the text file if it didn't already exist). I could then easily append additional rows of data (records) to the text file. We want to build a questionnaire that will store the data locally on the computer in a text file. Each record may have a few hundred data points in a comma separated list.

Nov 20, 2010I'm found the site with the monkey on the the flash thing and all it shows is a name, email and something else and I used it and it works by including a txt file and displaying text from that file as putting down this information

and I can't find the site anymore to get help.I want to know how to include a PHP script that shows this information like this

I want to show this stuff on the flash but every time I execute by using it as localhost/test.php, it will show a syntax error.

Jan 18, 2011Having got into flash about a year ago, I have a fairly good understanding of as3, but I have never had any reason to learn as2. For an upcoming project, we were looking to use Scaleform GFx, with the UDK. (Unreal Development Kit) Trouble is, Scaleform only supports as2. From what I've been told, as3 is supposed to be better in just about every way, so I really don't want to learn a language that?s most likely on the way out, if I have any other options.
Is there any converters out there, that can convert script from as3 to as2? Or another workaround possibility, since flash communicates with the UDK by means of just calling a function, could I create an as2 file that could dynamically load an as3 file?

Oct 14, 2009I asked this earlier but maybe I didn't give enough information. I am working on a website where video quality is very important and the client is delivering me the video already compressed. I then want to import it to flash CS3 and export it as .flv for progressive download with the media playback component. I have done all of this successfully in a sense that it all works but the video quality is not good enough, it's good but the client says it;s a bit grainy. I used the highest setting in Flash, on2 vp6 at 700kbs.
My question is what is the best file format (.mov etc) and what settings should the client use, so I can create the highest quality .flv export from their .mov file? Second question, I used an 8 second buffer but now the client is saying they don't want it to buffer at all. What are the other options besides progressive download, I have never delved into this before?
