ActionScript 3.0 :: Creating A Back Button Using Arrays?

Jul 23, 2009

how to use an array to create a back button for something I've made in Flash. I wish it was as easy as making the back button go to the previous slide, but there are several branching scenarios where that scenario won't exactly work. I purchased a membership to Lynda.com in order to try and learn AS3, but the section they have on arrays in AS3 doesn't come close to teaching me what I need to know for this kind of operation.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Creating A Simple Back Button?

Aug 26, 2004

I have made a flash site that contains a lot of buttons that loads imported swfs. Now, I want to create a simple back button by using variables.

An example: The visitor clicks on the contact button which loads the contact.swf Then, the visitor clicks on the About us button which loads the aboutus.swf. Now, the visitor wants to go back to to the contact page and hit the back button inside the About us page.

The code for loading the pages looks like this:

on (release) {
_root.section = "nameofthepage.swf";
_root.transition.gotoAndPlay("closing");
}

Now I want this to happen: When the visitor clicks on the contact button a variable is saved named "contact" and then inserts "contact" in the code of the back button. Something like this:

on (release) {
_root.section = "insert the name of the current variable name.swf";
_root.transition.gotoAndPlay("closing");
}

creating a flip-book in flash (using AS3) . I've looked at the other flip-book programs and editors out there, and none really give the customization that my company wants.I have something working, but the page scoping seems to be off. The pages will turn back and forward with a button click but they flip out of order. However, it all runs fine with no error when the user clicks on the pages themselves. This is the code from the main timeline (where I'm getting an error).

ActionScript 3.0 :: Copying Arrays Back And Forth?

Jul 20, 2010

I am working on a program with a number of particles that fly around and can collide with each other.I keep all of them in an Array named "particleArray" However, when a collision occurs, I want the two colliding objects to be deleted, and 1 new one formed in their place. I can't do this with just one Array because it affects the order/length of the Array while it's still running through a for loop.

i'll just create a temporary array, make that a copy of the master array, make the changes I need to that one, and then when the master array isn't being used, I can copy the contents of the temp array back into it to be used for the next frame.However, flash doesn't seem to like this. I've tried splice/slice/and concat and get various errors. All the tutorials for copying arrays involve creating a new array and setting it equal, but I need both arrays to be persistent and global, only created once. Do I have to create a for loop to manually copy between the two?

flash hates this code, that I thought would be simple and work:

particleArray = particleArrayRefresh.splice(0); // empty the temp array into the main one.

All similar things i've tried have failed as well. It doesn't seem to want to set an EXISTING array in this way, but I really don't want to use an innefficient for loop to tax each computation cycle more.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Creating Objects From Arrays On Stage

May 7, 2011

I've got four arrays which I want to use to create objects on the stage.
The first one is what the Object Class is called.
The second one is what I want the instance name to be.
The third and fourth relate to the x and y co-ordinates respectively.

ActionScript Code:
var objectName:Array = [Background, Frame, Up, Down, SideBar, Yellow, Green, Pink, Blue, Titles,
TimeBar, TimeBarSlider, Stop, Play, Pause, ThumbnailOutline, Thumbnail];
var instanceName:Array = [bg, frame, up, down, sideBar, yellow, green, pink, blue, titles,
TimeBar, timeBarSlider, stopBtn, playBtn, PauseBtn, thumbnailOutline, thumbnail];
[Code] .....

The "i" would relate to the parameters for the same object. So, if i = 0, then the Object Class Name would be: 'Background', the instance name would be 'bg', the x position would be '0', and the y position would '0'. What code would I need in the for loop to create this?

ActionScript 2.0 :: [FMX] - Creating Shared Object Arrays For Multiple Users?

Aug 26, 2004

I am creating a computer game with a save game function which outputs the contents of an array to a shared object, so that users don't loose their place.However, I wish for this to work with multiple users, and realise that to do this I need a new seperate "folder" within the shared object being created for each new users data array.I know it must be something like....

// Define the shared object using a "sublevel" for each users data array...
_root.savegame.sublevel = sharedobject.getLocal("savegame"; "/");
// somehow dynamically change "sublevel" to the contents of the var "currentUser" as defined when the user logs in when the game loads up.

OR...

//Define the shared object but using a variable title for the actual SO...
_root.savegame = sharedobject.getLocal("savegame_currentUser", "/");
//with that "currentUser" being dynamically substituted for the contents of the var "currentUser" which is defined when the User logs in when the game loads up.

Arrays :: Actionscript 3 - Creating A New Array For Eache Iteration Of The Function Call. AS3

Oct 5, 2011

so I have writing a function that returns objects on the stage and puts them into an array. and the function works fine until i call the function on more than one object name, meaning if im in the root class, and I call this function on object1 lets say it will add all the object one's from the stage, but if i call it on object2 it will throw an error, which makes some sense, i guess it means that it is not adding it to a unique array, but im not sure how to do that. would it be a good idea to maybe make a multidimensional array? if that is the case would it be too slow?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Creating Array To Trace Back Number Of MC From Stage

Jul 18, 2008

I have created a set of MC's loaded from library via attachMovie in a for loop. Right now I have a set of MC's that are attached with the numbers 1-8. I would like to be able to select a MC and traces back its number. I know this can be achieved through an array. I know how to build arrays, but I do not know how to create an array what would trace back a number form a for loop.

Here is the code:
this.createEmptyMovieClip("navClip",this.getNextHighestDepth());
for (i=0; i<8; i++) {
currentThumb = navClip.attachMovie("numberBox", "clip"+i, i, {_x:(i*50)});
currentThumb.imageNum.text = i+1;
navClip._x = (Stage.width/2)-(navClip._width/2);
currentThumb.onRelease = function() {
trace(currentThumb);
};}
I need it to call back in the onRelease the number associated with that clip(array).

ActionScript 3.0 :: Creating Global Values - When I Go Back To Main Menu Errors Keep Showing Up?

Nov 8, 2011

I'm a begginer flash game developer-ish individual working on my first project - An economic game with RPG elements, I'm mixing AS 3.0 with Flash CS5 (for the graphics, buttons, tweens and the simple stuff in general since it's easier for me atm than scripting it). The trouble started when I had to script in variables. I've sorted out a couple of issues but a few still remain:

1. I need to limit three of my main skills to 0-100. Only managed to stumble across tutorials for AS2,

2. Each character will have 3 main skills, and then the 18 secondary skills will be calculated from those 3 values. This works fine, when I modify existing variables directly in the code. The thing is that I created those buttons that add or subtract from a certain skill value, but when I press them the var changes but all of the 18 skills remain unchanged (as if they do not refresh themselves - i was thinking about an eventListener waiting for a change in skill value but if I would have to do one for every one of the 18 skills in conjunction with the 6 buttons to change levels - so 144 functions - im thinking maybe an array...but I'm such an actionscript newb that I can hardly translate the tutorials into my ideas.

3. Also wondering how to create a pool of unused skill points so when I add points I can't max it out right off the bat but rather take it from that value instead and once it's 0 you can't add points anymore.

4. Last but not least, I'm having trouble creating global values. My main menu is in scene1 and when I press Newgame it goes to scene2, the problem starts when i go back to main menu errors keep showing up (since scene 1 has no information about statistics but a function probably keeps asking )which means that the program can't get access to an attribute or a method of reference for the null object at MainMenu_fla (don't be fooled by the file name, I have everything in 1 fla file)Of course an error pops up for every skill, main or secondary.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Button Actions With Arrays?

Jul 28, 2009

I have a project where I have 80 or so invisible buttons, that when clicked, need to load a movie clip from the library into a mc on the stage, as well as cause a rollover and rollout state on a "movie clip button" that's sitting underneath the invisible button. This is in ActionScript 2.0.Here's a example of one of my button actions:

ActionScript Code:[code]....

The way it works is "invis_1_1" is the first invisible button in a group, the 1_1 refers to the button being in the first column and the first row in a grid. The "movie button" it's controlling is "col1row1" which has a "on" and "off" state. When the invisible button is clicked it loads "1_1", which is a movie clip in the library, into a holder movie clip.The dilema I'm running into is I'll need to write this code over 80 times with a slight change each time to the instance names etc. I'm sure there's a way to do this with an array but I'm still new to using arrays.

ActionScript 2.0 :: How To Get Button To Cycle Through Arrays

Dec 15, 2006

I am making a portfolio for my website and here is the beginning of my script.
stop();
//setting up the list of frame names for the buttons
imagelist = ["horror","legs","chair"];
//'next' button setup
next_b.onRelease = function() {
gotoAndPlay (imagelist[0]);
}
Now I want the button to cycle through the arrays so that everytime you hit the button it goes to the next frame instance that I've named. In this case imagelist[0] is horror so next time you hit button I want it to goto imagelist[1] or 'legs.' Also I need to set a stop action for this (I am guessing loop) so that it stops at the array length.
