ActionScript 3.0 :: Detecting Change In Public Variable?

Dec 3, 2007

Let's say I have a class, and I created a new object of this class in my document class. Inside this class, there is a public variable. How would I be able to detect a change in that public variable?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Change The Value Of A Public Variable From Another Class?

Sep 7, 2010

I have a simple problem. I have two document classes. One is Main.as the other is Step2.as. I want to declare a public variable in Main.as then need to give it a value from Step2.as. That value will later be used in my next Document class Step3.as How would I write the code that gives the value in my Step2.as and then how would I write the code that retrieves the value in my Step3.as?

Note I can't import my Step2/ or Step3 document class into my Main.as.

ActionScript 1/2 :: Detecting A Change To A Variable?

Oct 31, 2011

Can I detect a change to a variable (a data string)?

I am making a AS2 SWF (player level 7) with a combobox page navigation. I have a page name variable that I am changing from outside of the SWF with Director and Authorware using (I believe) FlashVars. The variable (internally) is set by default during SWF initialization. The external variables values allowed are always one of the combobox's data field values. The combobox default variable is not always index positon 0 (zero). Or the order of the data either. The variable can get changed internally by the nav combobox used for navigation independent of the external variable. - this works When the shared nav var is changed from the external source, the combobox needs to change to the match the corresponding combobox's data variable. This is what I am trying to do. I can change the combobox setting programatically (index) but not get it to recognize it as a change event. Or tell it programatically

Can the combobox be selected by the data variable or is the only option to use the index (and loop through index values to match variable to data field)?

And update the combobox selection (and as a result the nav page) by triggering a change event programatically?

Detecting the var change cleanly without the OnEnterFrame trick is my goal - if it even works in the version I have to use (flash palyer 7).

Using Public Variable From Document Class

Jun 9, 2009

I've created 2 public variables in my Document Class...

public var _wall1:Wall=new Wall();public var _wall2:Wall=new Wall();I've then added them to the stage and given them relevant instance names...

stage.addChild(_wall1);_wall1.x=32; _wall1.y=510;_wall1.name = "wall1";I then want to use these variables in another Class (Ball.as). They need to be accessed in a function within the Ball Class constructor.

function bubble(event:Event):void{if(this.hitTestObject(_wall1)){    this.x += 1;}else if(this.hitTestObject(_wall2)) {    this.x -= 1;}However, the following Error message keeps appearing...

1120: Access of undefined property _wall1.1120: Access of undefined property _wall2.Any pointers? Do I need to import something into the Ball Class to point to the _wall# public variables in the Document Class?

This doesn't compile. Say, you don't have control of the base class, what ways is there implement the same thing? The obvious is create a function setSpace(), but this object is being embedded in an already existing system that use the public space.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Multiple Classes Accessing The Same Variable Without Making It Public?

Dec 26, 2006

i've got two classes and i'm not extending to MovieClip. I like to attach the mc in the constructor just because i'll be working with different MC's that have the same purpose.

however, im using private var loadedMC:Movieclip and now i've got another class that needs to be able to access the instance's variable.

for example, myClass.loadedMC , but this would mean having to make it public and I rather not go that route.

It's creating the cue-points well, although I'd like to use the below variable outside of this function.

Code: var stampName When I try and use it I get an access of undefined property error, which I believe relates to the variables being private and within the function - but I can't seem to find a method to get this varibale public.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Detecting Changes In Variable?

I'm trying to make this fluid preloader that uses tween classes to change the size of the bar instead of just using something likegotoAndStop(percent)I have the tween class working but need a way for it to detect the change of the percentage variable. Here's what I'm trying to get it to do:Current percentage is at 55, this is set as the "currentPercent" variable. It suddenly jumps to 65%, the "currentPercent" variable would change to 65 while the "prevPercent" variable would stay at 55 so the tween class could have a beginning and ending value.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Detecting Visual Content Change?

Oct 12, 2009

What event would signal that the visual content of an SWFLoader had changed or how would you detect that.

Actually if the visual content changes there is in fact a "render" event broadcast in the parent application, but I don't know how to determine which SWFLoader caused it.

Say you have one SWFLoader on a page that contains some sort of input control but its just sitting there doing nothing until a user presses something on it, and then there is a render event in the parent application. However, if there is another SWFLoader that contains a continually playing VideoDisplay, then there will be continal render messages being broadcast in the parent application (I verified this.) My point being that the parent application is getting signaled somehow the instant the visual content of some embedded SWFLoader changes. But the question is how does my code determine specifically which SWFLoader changed.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Change String Variable To A MovieClip Variable?

Oct 10, 2008

I have been banging my head against a brick wall regarding the following problem which must be very simple to fix, just can't see the answer.I have a class assigned to a movieclip called canvas. The class is called drawClass. I have called the instance of canvas on the stage 'drawingCanvas'.When I trace "drawingCanvas" I get object drawClass] which is fine. Tracing drawingCanvas.name gets me the instance name 'drawingCanvas'.This is a String variable.Basically what I am trying to do is pass the MovieClip name to another class. In my example the class 'toolBar', which can then interact with the MovieClip.

The problem is passing 'drawingCanvas.name' results in a String, so I get an error saying :TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert "canvasArea" to flash.display.MovieClip.I can't for love or money find a way to convert a String variable to a MovieClip variable! I have the name of the MovieClip, I just need to tell the toolbar class. But I can't find a way of doing this as the instance on stage is an object of drawingClass, not a MovieClip (unless MovieClips with attached classes are not treated as standard MovieClips?).

ActionScript 2.0 :: Using A Variable To Change A Variable?

Jan 14, 2009

I'm creating a board game which has 3 variables, p1Move, p2Move and activePlayer.
p1Move and p2Move store the p1 and p2 location on a game board. activePlayer stored who's turn it is at the moment.

I am loading a value in from a text file which changes the value of move. This all works fine when i designate a player directly:

ActionScript Code:
p1Move = [insert variable name],

but i want to designate dynamically based on who's turn it is.

Something like this:

ActionScript Code:
_root["p"+activePlayer+"Move"] = Number(this.varAmount);

so that flash changes the value of p1Move (or p2Move depending on who's turn it is) to varAmount. varAmount is the variable being read from the textfile.

Hopefully that all makes sense. Basically i want flash to change the variable associated with the active player only.
