ActionScript 3.0 :: Different MovieClips In One Movie With Scrolling Contents?

I am new to ActionScript and Flash, and I am getting this error:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
at jessicaclucas_fla::MainTimeline/stopResumescroll()
I have several different clips in one movie that have scrolling content. When I click a button to move to a different clip that doesn't have a certain scroll, it gives me this error. You can see the site I am working on: [URL].

i have a combo in a movieclip which is loaded in a scrollpane, when i try to scroll the combo using my mouse wheel the scrollpane is scrolling but not combo
how does pagination work? Is that I just need to create several Movieclips for each page and then add the contents into pages seperately?? Or is there any available tutorials??
In my main .fla file I have a movie clip onstage called "square". The movieclip is empty. Below that are five buttons (black, red, blue, green, remove) which, depending on the color button clicked, would load into the empty "square" clip either a movie called "black_square.swf", "red_square.swf", "blue_square.swf" or "green_square.swf". Only one such movie at a time is loaded into the clip. Clicking the "remove" button empties the clip. I've also got a "submit" button, which, when I click it, I'd want to submit the name of whatever .swf file happens to be loaded to a database. If nothing is loaded I want the record created to show the "square" movieclip was empty.
I've been able to make an application that has a central movie clip containing 20-something other clips. The application lets people create their own design of a particular item, choosing the colors of every component to this item (each of which is loaded into its own component-specific movie clip). One of the movie clips can be populated by a .jpg or .png file a user himself uploads. Once finished, people can print or save this design by choosing the appropriate button on this app. What I'm trying to do is find a way to also pass this design, created from multiple movie clips into a central clip, into a database as well.
The movie clips are "driven" by 21 color chip buttons each which has an instance name of a color, i.e. "black", "brown", "dark_green", etc. By a series of switch/case statements, when one clicks a "component" button (there are approximately 13-15 components) they load into the clips a movie named "(model)_(view)_(component)_(color (event.target.name)).swf". There are many "models" to choose from but within the stage only one "model" is selected at a time, so that wouldn't change here.
The design can be viewed from front, back, left or right, so that's what the "view" is - the colored components that are the same save for the view (i.e., an object which can be seen from either the front or left view) are loaded into movie clips that are either visible or invisible depending on which view one selects. Is there a way I can attach a variable name to a movie clip which is selected (bearing in mind that the application viewer can change the color of each component (and therefore the clip loaded) at will) to be read by the database? Or would the name of whatever movie clip itself that happens to be loaded be sufficient? "populating a database from contents of a movie clip".
Im making a scrollable mc. Easiest thing in the world.... but the damn scoller just will not stop when the movie clip it's scrolling ends. It stops....eventully... but not close enough. What actionscript do I need to use and where do I put it?
I would like to create a scrolling effect on one of my MovieClips. In Javascript I'd simply create two divs, one positioned absolutely in the other, and have the surrounding one have the style 'overflow: none'. Now I want to achieve the same in ActionScript, as shown in the following picture:
When I try to set the size of the surrounding MovieClip the contents just get 'squashed'. I want it to stay the same and the parts outside of the 'rectangle to be hidden outside of the MovieClip.
Picture this, for now anyway, as I will be uploading my example when I get home from work. I have five squares all the same size on 5 different layers in slightly different posistions so it looks like a diagonal stack of squares.
I have a button called playHead which I need to act as a counter I will now state the play buttons functions. Once the user presses the play button the first square moves horizontally off of the stage through a coded tween, whilst the square behind it moves into its original position.
I need this function to happen for all of the squares, I would ideally like to use a key listener and the LEFT ARROW instead of a button but I am doing it this way firstly.
The problem is that because I am using multiple tweens and only 1 button everytime I press the play head it trys to trigger the first tween: I feel that I need a counter mechanism that turns off tweens that have already finished and counts through a variable to know which square has been moved. I will upload my progress at 6 tonight GMT.
How to place movieclips on a scrolling background with AS3? My background scrolls and my character runs when the right arrow key is pressed. But when I tried to place the obstacles he is supposed to jump over, only the first one is visible, and it looks like he's chasing it. My background (Bg) is 3802.8px wide and I put the obstacles and "home" (Cabin) about 600px apart.

I'm currently working on a project for a client who just keeps adding and adding more and more visuals and functionality (while developing!) to an already complex website . The website is very high-end with a lot of 3d rendered PNG-sequences and looks beautiful, but as you can imagine my flash-project is getting cluttered and becoming very slow at runtime very fast.
For a small baseline: I am currently working with swf files of 15mb a piece (the site will have multiple sub-sites). Each with full-browser moving bitmaps, movieclips and png-sequences. Anyway, the site layout at this point: I have multiple sprites layered on top of each other. These will, based on the mouse position, move parralax-style to simulate depth. Within these sprites I have the following visual contents:
a. a static PNG which acts as a static visual. This PNG is duplicated multiple times within the sprite (tiled) to make sure that the visual is browser-filling.
b. a moving PNG-sequence using this solution from the guru's at greensock: forums.greensock.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4243&p=16835#p16835
c. a multiple of movieclips which act as buttons displayed at various positions within the parralax-moving scene, these buttons popup new screens and load external content.
Currently I've managed to fix all the parralax sprites through the scrollrect option, with only the bare minimum of each animation visible at the same time (the scrollrect is always as big as the max sprite height and max screen width), but because of the visual madness of the website, the swf still runs as fast as a tortoise on ritalin.
To just add the articles will only make the page load slower so I used a scrollbar with a textfield and added text and pics to the article to scroll it. This works fine but I need a way where the scroll can call different textfields or movieclips. For instance, the main scroll opens with a textfield that scrolls articles 15 thru 10. I need on the bottom of the page buttons that link articles 9 thru 5 and so on. So when you click a button the textfield or movieclip changes and displays what is in that textfield or mc. I have looked for a tutorial, a video or anything on this and besides coming up with Flash 5 similar mentions but nothing to this point
I have built a simple Flash application that will be presented using a projector, the application will show messages in the form of questions that will come from a simple flat-file text file or XML file.
In addition to this I would also like to be able to add my own messages using a simple HTML form.
I've been looking around the web for some resources, but have been struggling to find what I am looking for. The basic idea is that the flash application will loop through these different messages from the XML, but then when a user types in a message that will also appear within these messages. Think of it as a sort of dynamic tag cloud.

I'm customizing an xml flash website and while I can handle all the html and xml well enough, but in Flash, I have no clue how to: Now go on the stage, and delete the contents of the last layer(background & pattern). Here, add from the library, the square movieclip, and name it mcBackColor(see attached image).And then to add your swf background in the "background & pattern" layer from the main.fla file.
I can change the name, but don't know how to delete just the contents of the layer and then add the new clip.I've made a slideshow before and that's all I can do.
after loading an external movie clip called "mv_frame" into the main flash file , i need to access a movie clip inside the loaded movie called "hit" in as2 we do that using the point (.) to navigate into movie levels , but my question is how to do that in AS3?

Ok, so I'm trying to accomplish a seemingly simple task. I have a gallery set up for a website, where if a thumbnail is clicked, a larger version appears on a display. I can't use external swf files because it doesnt add itself to th get BytesTotal, so the loading bar wouldnt include it loading those external swfs. There is a pause before the picture actually loads (I want it preloaded).
Now I have the movie clips i want to exchange in my library, but dont know hwo to get them to become the on-screen movieclip. I have an on(release) function with _root.screen = 'mc_clip1'; is that not the right syntax? is there a better way to load mc's from the library?
I have a movie clip (scrollBar) in my site that contains a line of other movie clips moving across the stage (scrollContent1-4). Only two of these are visible at a time, so I have lined them all up, repeated the first two at the end, and have the animation looping.
I want each of the scrollContent1-4 clips to be clickable. It's all fine on the first loop, but once the clip reaches the end and returns to frame 1 the clips are no longer clickable.
The stage loops through a few clips so this one gets removed and added to the stage again and again by itself. How can I modify the contents of it on each loop iteration?[code]...
I have followed the XML Video tutorial and everything works fine however Lee says you can use a movie clip to display the contents of the XML file instead of one of Flash's built in components. Is there a way to create your own drop down menu or simple text field?
What I'm wanting to happen is that when the "body" movie clip changes size, I want the objects within it to be scaled proportionally (keeping the x:y ratio the same). The result that I'm wanting will result in the contents (as a whole) being proportionally scaled to the height (because it will always be the smaller dimension in my case) of the current size of the body mc.
I've uploaded my .fla so you can see what im working with. The red square is the body that i've managed to scale but I have not yet added anything within it. (I have tried but it's contents distort when the body is resized)
I have created 2 textfields: an input textfield at level 0 with an instance name of input_txt and a dynamic txt box in a loaded movie at level 20 with an instance name of output_txt. How do I get the text that is input into level 0 to appear into the textbox at level 20?
I've created a flash file which loads an image using loadMovie, this all works fine but what I need to be able to do is load different size images into the swf. I have tried changing the size of the swf in the embed tag and using the 'noscale' option, however the stage appears to be moved to the center (see screenshot), I need it to be at the top left.
I've also tried passing the new width and height to the swf via flashvars and then setting the size of the stage to these values, however this makes no difference to the outcome.
how I can create a flash movie that I can scale using the width and height parameters that doesn't scale the content and keeps the content in the top left corner?
i get problems @ this line... "contents.loadMovie(mc);" instead of just loading the movie, it automatically plays. and the code after it don't even get analyzed. pointers
If i have a clip with a bunch of stuff inside it (on layers) like other clips, bitmaps, etc. and perform a tween on that clip (via tween class), the stuff inside the clip seems to alpha at different rates.
For instance, i have a clip with an empty movieclip which loads a bitmap image and on top of the bitmap image, i have a gradient feathered edge (.png) bitmap and on top of that I have some dynamic text (embedded fonts).
The bitmap is supposed to create a feathered edge on the photo but since they alpha at different rates, you always see the hard edge of the photo...
is there a solution like cacheAsBitmap which would let the whole clip alpha at once? If it's cacheAsBitmap, i must be using it incorrectly, b/c it's not working!
I know that there are a number of threads on similar issues, but these are all confusing me quite a bit so I thought I should start a new thread to get an answer I'll hopefully understand.I have made my sight with specific diameters. I've got a heading I want to retain on all pages, but the content will change. I guess this would have to be in a movieClip as some pages the content will fit my stage, other pages will have content that is larger than the stage.I'd like to be able to scroll down through these pages which contain both text and images. I'm not sure how I would be able to set this up.
I created a movie clip that has an image on every frame. I'd like to create a scroll bar for simple and easy veiwing of the images. But I don't want a typical scroll like a UIscroll component, because I don't want the images to flow together. I just want to jump from image to image.
So I've got a website set up where there are several pages and photos mixed in and I've placed them all inside a movie clip called "content_mc".
