how do i get an ordered list using htmltext property of Text component? I tried using this: <ol><li>item</li><li>item</li></ol> but it rendered like an unordered list.
View 2 RepliesI am working on an as3 project and trying to use htmlText to display images and text inline in rows to create a scroll bar if results are more than 5. for example each row has an image on the left and text on the right aligned like a simple table. However when I add the image tag and text then insert a break or <p> tag the text breaks out of alignment with the image. What is the best to acomplish displaying images and text aligned in rows and get a scroll bar if more than 5 rows in flash/ as3

I've got two questions; one about whether or not something is natively possible in Flash and another if there is a free or commercial component to fix the problem.I know CSS/HTML in textfields is one of the weak points of Flash, but I still would like to clear something up(couldn' find a definitive 'not possible'through google).I'm trying to display images from HTML/XML as block through CSS in a dynamic textField but can't seem to get it to work.I've tried too many variations to display one piece of code which fails, but it boils down to:
* I load XML in which headings, paragraphs and images(usually within a paragraph) are set.
* I load CSS (or generate with AS for that matter) which set's the properties of the various tags.
* Images always display inline even if just one single char fits beside it in the field. If nothing really fits beside the image,Flash still places text there which is then hidden from the reader. All attempts to have the image's display set to block fail. Also if I try
through a surrounding p-tag.
I tried all from XML.ignoreWiitespace,TextField.condenseWhite, adding p-, and br-tags. It just won't work.If there really is no (why not?!) possibility to have it done natively, does anyone know of a solution (paid or free) done previously?
How do you pagintate with AS3? I'm using a htmlText to display XML info but I cant figure out how to paginate with that object.
View 14 RepliesI have a list containing display objects from throughout the application (insertion order). I want to process the list either top-down (parent, child) or bottom up (child, parent). The only requirement is that either a parent is processed before any child or vice versa a child before its parent. What is a good approach? This question is not about sorting a list. It's about retrieving the depth of a particular display object.
Example
Display list:
A (root)
B1
C1
C2
D1
B2
......
My list:
list = [E1, F4, A, B2, B1, C3, ..., N9, N8]
Bottom-up:
N9, N8, F4, E1, C3, B2, B1, A
Top-down:
A, B2, B1, C3, E1, F4, N9, N8
Does not matter if N9 before N8 or N8 before N9. Important is that any N is before M (first run) or any M before its children N* (second run).
Is there any way to test if a display object has been added to the display list?

The following code works fine for finding and displaying text within an xml file, but I want to display the results differently. Using the following xml as a source, I would like to:- highlight the search term (var searchTerm) in red when found in the xml- add some characters found before and after the search term to give the term that is found some contextFor now, how could I add 3 characters before and after the search term, like so: "The first tex" - and highlight 'first' in red

It's my understanding that a display object cannot be in the display list more that once.So if I add something to the stage shouldn't a second addition of the same object replace the first? for instance:

I am trying to implement htmlText for a text component as the returned string is in html format (with the html tags etc). If I put a text=.... i get the full text, but with the tags (which i want converted to html). So i use htmlText=.... and it formats it fine, but cuts half the text from the variable. The text im supposed to get back has tons of html tags, and maybe its cutting it somewhere because of the tag its not able to escape... How do i fix this?

I want to add a horizontal scrollbar to a textfield that shows the text in HTML format.When I try that in other documents without scrollbar I get it to work.In the code bellow, which I mainly took from the Actionscript Reference, the code works when I use text (like in the Actionscript Reference).But when I change it to htmlText to get it HTML formatted (and get rid of the HTML codes) the textField doen't show anything.

i'm working with externally loaded, html formatted text which employs the <img> tag, wondering if anyone knows a way to force the text directly following the <img> tag to display on a new line starting BENEATH the image in the textField rather than the default behavior of flowing AROUND the image to the right or left? inserting multiple <br> tags works, but that seems like a crappy and way to do it, fills the source file with a lot of <br> tags and requires a trial + error approach to finding the right number.
View 5 RepliesI have tried to do a script which makes a texteffect. It is one of those regulars in which you use dynamic text, at multiline, with substring and an onEnterFrame.
So the textfield starts at noll characters and goes up.
But the main problem which I dont know how to handle really is when it comes to make the .text property to a .htmlText property.
It seems to be really difficult to port the code for .text to allow .htmlText.
Since when using substring on a html-formatted string will take all html-markup into consideration.
Creating an RSS reader. One feature is that should parse several "category" nodes from a feed. But when I load a feed, the category doesn't shows up in the text area. Flash returns no errors. Heres the code -

And i really cant have that, it all works fine if there is no changing of font size but i will also need to change that so is there a solution just to disable scrolling on text field?

I am consuming XML which I have no control over. the XML has HTML in it which i am styling and displaying in a HTML text field. I want to remove all the html except the links.
Strip all HTML tags except links is not working for me.
does any one have any tips? regEx?

I am using 3rd party API for reading text from swf file in my application, using that API i can identify htmltext and nonhtml text but the problem is if the text filed is autokern true then its returning as htmltext for nonhtml text.

I can get this to happen in my dynamic text boxes by using .htmlText to display but I have no idea how I would do this in the list box?
I've got MovieClips on the stage, both manually added, and added with code. I used this code to trace them all:

All it returns is 0 and [object MainTimeline]. Is there something wrong with Flash, or did I do my coding wrong? The objects I put on the stage should be on the Display List, right?
