ActionScript 3.0 :: Htmltext, Images And Css' Display Property?

I've got two questions; one about whether or not something is natively possible in Flash and another if there is a free or commercial component to fix the problem.I know CSS/HTML in textfields is one of the weak points of Flash, but I still would like to clear something up(couldn' find a definitive 'not possible'through google).I'm trying to display images from HTML/XML as block through CSS in a dynamic textField but can't seem to get it to work.I've tried too many variations to display one piece of code which fails, but it boils down to:
* I load XML in which headings, paragraphs and images(usually within a paragraph) are set.
* I load CSS (or generate with AS for that matter) which set's the properties of the various tags.
* Images always display inline even if just one single char fits beside it in the field. If nothing really fits beside the image,Flash still places text there which is then hidden from the reader. All attempts to have the image's display set to block fail. Also if I try
through a surrounding p-tag.
I tried all from XML.ignoreWiitespace,TextField.condenseWhite, adding p-, and br-tags. It just won't work.If there really is no (why not?!) possibility to have it done natively, does anyone know of a solution (paid or free) done previously?

I am working on an as3 project and trying to use htmlText to display images and text inline in rows to create a scroll bar if results are more than 5. for example each row has an image on the left and text on the right aligned like a simple table. However when I add the image tag and text then insert a break or <p> tag the text breaks out of alignment with the image. What is the best to acomplish displaying images and text aligned in rows and get a scroll bar if more than 5 rows in flash/ as3

I have a textfield on stage, and I gave it an instance name "iText". I even turrned on the "Render As HTML text" Icon and embeded the font that I used. Then in my actionscript on the keyframe I wrote:
iText.html = true;
iText.embedFonts = true;
iText.htmlText = "<b>WORKS!!!!</b>"
when I preview this, nothing show inside the text field, this is mind boggling, and I'm yet to know what is wrong here. I use Flash 8 by the way. The really strange thing is that when I do:
iText.htmlText = "WORKS!!!!"
the text shows up, but just with no html format, since I removed the bold tags, so something is wrong along the lines of those tags or something else I am not aware of.

There's an annoying bug in AIR (or in the TextArea component itself but showing up only in AIR) because of which, if you do:
my_textarea.htmlText=someLongText;
my_textarea.textField.scrollV=someValue;
the second instruction just does not work, and the textarea scrolls to the beginning (as a consequence of the first assignment). Has anyone else run into this and have you come up with any workaround?
This only happens in AIR, not FP, and only with TextArea, not with a plain input text.

I have some HTML loaded from an XML document that includes web links (anchor tags). I am using a TextField object to display the text, and am plugging the XML data into the htmlText property of the TextField, and the text is rendering with HTML markup, links are working etc.
The problem I'm seeing is that a new line is created before and after the link, so html like this:
hello world <a href ="#">this is a link</a> and all of this should be on the same line.
is rendered like this (with specific attention paid to the new lines): Does anyone know of a way to prevent these new lines from appearing when using HTML links within a TextField?

I have different htmlText strings for my TextField. Each of them contains an image with the text: textfield.htmlText = "<img src='animage.jpg'>Here is my text"; textfield.htmlText = "<img src='anotherimage.jpg'>Here is my second text"; Now what I'm doing is making a fadein effect on the TextField, from 0 to 1, and changing the htmlText. The problem is that, when the image is not loaded in the cache, it is displayed a little abruptly after maybe half a second, which really doesn't look good. How could I force Flash the preloading of these images before the fadein without having the user notice it?

I am working on a search function but am having a bit of trouble finishing some display details. The following code works fine for finding and displaying text within an xml file, but I want to display the results differently. Using the following xml as a source, I would like to:- highlight the search term (var searchTerm) in red when found in the xml- add some characters found before and after the search term to give the term that is found some contextFor now, how could I add 3 characters before and after the search term, like so: "The first tex" - and highlight 'first' in red

I have a TextField and I am trying to display embedded images using htmlText:
var test:TextField = new TextField();
test.multiline = true;
test.wordWrap = true;[code]....
In this case the raftImg is in the Assets class. The problem is that the image does not align as it should (it always stays in upper left corner). If I load it using "../ blah/ img.gif" it works properly.

when the embedFonts is removed, it works perfectly as expect. Otherwise when an image is clicked, it selects the whole text around it.

did anyone come across this before? is there another way to make an image clickable inside a dynamically loaded xml text?Alternatively can anyone suggest a method to style dynamic textfields instead of using html?I've tried with many different fonts, and many different stylesheets, its still the same.

When I used TextField to display a link, it doesn't work as I expected.here is the code I used:

I have a flash file sitting inside of a web page in our company domain. There is another server (used to store images) that is part of the domain but is not running any web services (for security reasons). A folder on the images server is however shared in such a way that any site on the web server can display images from the images server as long as the user is plugged into the domain. For example, both I and my boss can pull up a web site on the web server and see all the information, but only he can see the images
because I have Vista Basic and no domain support. This is done via "<img src='\serverNamedirectory.'/>"
That's ok, but on this particular instance I don't want to display the image on the webpage, I want it in a SWF on the page. However the SWF can't seem to load the images even though the page it's sitting in could. I've tried tons of variations of URLRequests and Loaders, most resulting in security errors. Since most of the online discussions about these errors revolve around cross-domain access, I can't seem to find any tech support for our specific situation.

I have a project where html text is rendered via CSS style. All the formatting is done with "class" attribute. So I have to use only <p> or/and <span> tags. Some text(tag) is to be displayed inline and some other text as have to be displayed as block, of course according to the css display property in corresponding style objects.
The problem is
1 - I don't want to mix <p> and <span> tags in my html : I want to use only one tag for all the document.
2 - <p> tag is always displayed as "block" (with line breaks) whatever the display property is. I noticed that {display:"none"} do hide the text, but {display:"inline"} and {display:"block"} do not make any difference.
3 - I thought for a moment that <span> will save my live, when I replaced all <p> tags with <span> the text is displayed inline. But when I changed the display property to "block" it did not make any difference.

how to access a property of a child of a DisplayObject.
within a class i have an object with the variable name: btnLMain i have assigned it a name property: btnLMain.name = "btnLMain"; btnLMain also has a property: btnLMain.clickNum = 0; // thats the one i need to access when i instantiate the class (btnL) containing this code in the parent class i need to access the property "clickNum" so i did this:

but then i get the error: 1119: Access of possibly undefined property clickNum through a reference with static type flash.display:DisplayObject.
so then i reviewed documentation and from what i understand i am not able to access the property of the child of the DisplayObject as it is a static property...
so now i am trying to figure out how to access that property in the child Class.

I am learner of AS3 and xml. So I have referred everywhere and copied the code. I am getting:
