ActionScript 3.0 :: Displaying Tabular Data (Row And Column)?
Apr 29, 2010What's a good way to display tabular (row and column) data? A TextField for every cell seems excessive, especially with lots of data and scrolling.

Obviously I could spend thousands and get macromedia flex running on our servers, but that is not viable right now....

Feb 5, 2010I'm currently building an application that is presenting tabular (fetched from a webservice) data and have squirted it into a datagrid - seemed the most obvious way to present it on screen. I've now come across a few limitations in the datagrid and wonder how I might move forward. The data is logically split into groups and I would like to be able to have subheadings in the grid whenever I move to a new group. I would like to be able to highlight individual cells based on their content relative to other values in the row - ie highlight the cell with the highest value in the row. Is this possible with the standard datagrid?

May 16, 2011Looking for some ideas, strategies, tools, etc. on creating reports from Flash Builder / Flex 4. I have a flex application that allows create/read/update/delete of client information from a back-end database. It uses web services (zend amf -> mongo db or mysql). I already have the client data IN flex via the web service as a collection for example. A user requests the ability to generate a report - to display a list of clients under a certain age in a tabular excel style grid (datagrid most likely).
It will be sorted and subtotaled by a demographic such as "insurance type". Ideally the user would like to be able to select the insurance types allowed on the report (or in the datagrid/pivot table). I know one option would be to present the user with a series of check boxes or a multi-select list to choose the insurance types. Then, present them with a data grid or advanced data grid component to display the 'report'. What other techniques, options or components are available / have people used?

Feb 27, 2012I've got a DataGrid in my mobile application (I know, I know but there's currently not other solution for this), that numeric values. Depending on the value of a cell, the text gets colored. My big issue is that this doesn't work very for more than about 5 rows of data. I reckon the issue is that the set text function (in which I format the color) can't keep up with the amount of cell changes and formats the text based on the last updated cell of the row.I thought about a column item renderer so that the renderer only gets the value for that column, and not the whole data of the row.
Just for reference, this is my current item renderer (again, this works fine for few rows, for 5+ of fast changing data, this doesn't work any more, cells get formatted even though their data hasn't changed).[code]I just double-checked and have to revert my previous statement. A single row works fine, the second row already messes up the color formatting though. It seems as if the datagrid somehow throws together the values.
Doing the color formatting in the set data method shows the exact same effect;[code]My assumption about the grid messing up the ItemRenderer's data seems to be correct.A simple trace in the set data method (trace("old: " + _oldVal + "new : " + value[column.dataField]);) revealed that somehow, values of the next grid row (in case there are 2) get used as well as _oldVal gets the old value of the next row.

width="100%"horizontalScrollPolicy="off"
I have the minWidth set on all of the DataGridColumns and the width set on one of them. If I simply maximize/minimize the display (in browser or stand-alone flash player) of the application, the columns scale up and down nicely. But if you grab the edge of the application and drag it to make it bigger, only one column grows really big. When you drag the size down again, the one column remains big, but all of the other columns get squished way down.

While debugging I can see that I am creating the columns and setting them to the dataGrid and creating and setting the dataProvider, but for some reason I am able to see the dataGrid and the columns but not the data.

AS3 :: Android - Displaying Data Between Frames?
Nov 22, 2011I have a Android Air project written in AS3, when the project starts I am loading the music and loading the XML file to be parsed. In the first frame I call my classes to parse the XML and set the nodes at strings, and to play the audio, these both work fine. Also in my first frame I am declaring some textfields to input the data from the XML file so that when the user enters frame 3 the user is able to see this data from the XML file. This also works fine. The problem I am having is going between frame 4 and back to frame 3, the data in the textfields disapears? I trace the strings from the XML class that are holding the data and these values appear everytime, but going from frame 3 to frame 4 and back to frame 3 wipes out the textfield display?
Ok here is some code from frame one where I am declaring the textfields

Previously above I had stated that I am calling the audio class and the xml class from the first frame, declaring the text fields and moving on from there. Now I have decided that since this XML file is a list of scores and coded be always changing, I thought it would be good to load and parse this file everytime I enter frame 3. The same thing is still happening, I have my scores display and then when I go to frame 4 and back to frame three, the scores do not display, but when I trace the data from the class, it displays properly.
