I'm build a dynamic inventory system. When I test the file in CS4 all of the pictures load properly along the left side. When I publish it and run it online none of the pictures show up. I know it is getting the addresses and listing the as complete because that is what the visible numbers are.[code]

As you can see i have categories and inside the categories I have the pictures. What I want to do is every category to be displayed with a lower y position than the previous category. And in every category the picture to be arrange in the way presented in the picture below (x position for images = 0, the picture is just to make an idea).[URL]

In a kind of image browser where navigation is done through keyboard's arrow keys, I get the case where the user keeps the finger pressed on the arrow key. There, the list scroll faster and the screenshot doesn't have time to draw that the next item is already called.
I can see that in that case the CPU goes from an usual 1% when browsing "gently"..to about 20% when leaving the arrow key pressed and raging through the list of images.
I was thinking to:
1) Force the scroll rate to max out at 10 items per second
or
2) Only show pictures if key downs are > 10fps
or
3) Find a function that would wait for the last image to be drawn before continuing in the list.
So, to summarize:
- how to skip drawing pictures if the list is browsed to fast...or
- how to force the script to wait for the current image to be drawn before passing to the next item...or
Here is the script part containing the PNG loader, I've the feeling that this is the place where such a "limiter" should take place:

I created a button symbol, named it and created linkage to AS. I also created a MovieClip that holds the picture I want to put on top of the button and created a linkage.

View 7 RepliesI'm having two problems. First of all, the gallery loads all pictures at once. The more pictures in the XML file, the slower they all load. Secondly, I wanted the pictures to scroll in its _y coordinate, similar to Sugar Rhyme's website portfolio (see url]...).

When we have is a daily food menu, which I want to display in flash using a dynamic text box. Looking around on the internet, I believe that I can either pull it from the SQL database, or load an ASP page and pull the variables from there.
View 8 RepliesI have a dynamic text block (with text in it), which is on a button. This button is within a movie clip. This has created a "slide-in" / "slide-out" illusion when clicked on it.
My problem : The dynamic text does not display at all. If I change the text to Static, it displays.
Am I missing something, or why is this not displaying??
when i run movie i can not see text in my dynamic text box though i am able to select it and if "ctrl + A" it and paste it in my actions panel i can see it contains the text i intend.....

I need to display a few different variables inbetween static text in a dynamic text box. In the movie the users click on pick 1 of 3 characters and 1 of 3 backgrounds. The variables are set onRelease of the button, ie

I'm having trouble displaying a dynamic textbox once I apply a masking layer over it.Basically, i'm running the following code on the textbox:txt1. text = "" + myXML.quote[MovieClip(this.root).counter]This is stored in a layer on the timeline called "txt". It runs fine, displays the text without an issue.What I want to do is mask this layer though, and for some reason, once I mask it partially, nothing at all will display in the text box.Can I refer to the textbox differently than txt1.text, so that the code will still find it and fill it fine?

Now, I've been told that the way they used to do this is that in the XML is formatted where they put all the words on their own lines. like:

when i try this, it seems to be double spacing everything.
I have a DynamicText movie clip call mcShotsText. In my .as file I'm creating an instance via:

If I make the symbol so that it starts with text, it displays that fine. I want to alter it in code throughout the course of the game. I was hoping this would work:

I have read a few tutorials about adding variables to the text within a dynamic text box. However none of them work for me. I would like the box to display the Score of a game (called Score in my code, var Score:Number = 0). I can calculate the score fine, but it is not displaying in the Box. I need to load my Level Complete screen, with the text box inside. Could i do this by creating it using AS3 every time (by defining its properties in the code), or can i add it to my library (and define its properites there) and then declare an instance of it?

View 1 RepliesIm trying to create textfield inside my movieclip dynamically (at runtime). So I created a function called "CreateTextField()" which accepts parameters, including the "instanceName" and "txtValue".
Inside that function is a MovieClip.createTextField() function that takes the values and creates a textfield with the "instanceName" provided and assigns a value to the .text property of the textfield through "txtValue".
The code compiles. But it just doesnt want to show the textfield.

I have searched and tried different things for hours now.It has been a while since I have used Flash and I can't seem to remember.I have a movie embedded and I am passing a variable to the root movie for it to play when the embedded movie is complete. I know the variable is getting passed because I am displaying the value in as dynamic text but the parent movie will not play. This is what I have:

I know there is a way to tell the parent movie to play from the embedded movie by using TellTarget but I would like to find out why this doesn't work.

I've created the dynamic text box in Flash (CS3), but when I hit test, it won't show up.
After all the calculations, I should have a figure that I call totalmoney. My dynamic text box is called total. The user doesn't need to hit anything for it to appear. It just appears as part of the movie.

I'm using AS3 and trying to place the number value read from an SO into 2 dynamic text boxes. I'm using a couple of test numbers (2.25 and 1.25). Oddly when I run the following script, I am having difficulty getting my test numbers to appear in the 2 text boxes (T1, T2). (Before the numbers stopped displaying altogether, they were rounding up and seemed to be 10x greater than they actually are, without my doing anything like this.) Note: The script also displays text boxes (T3, T4, T5 and T6) with messages like "above average" based on the scores-not sure if these displays are correct, since I can't view the 2 numbers that the displays are based on.Here's the code.
