I'm trying to build a variety of text generators that I can repurpose for different projects similar to the ones used on this site: [URL] I can get the external text into flash (via xml) but how do I go about breaking those characters apart and animating each letter in? I don't mind doing the work, I just need a few pointers in the right direction.

I'm applying a simple alpha fade to the onEnterFrame event of a movie clip using AS, and inside that movie clip there is a dynamic text box that gets its content from an XML file. The fade works fine on everything except the text - the whole movie clip fades in, but the text just instantly "jumps into existence".
View 1 RepliesI am working on a flash file that dynamically displays data coming from (currently two) XML files on screen. I'm filling various text fields and adjusting colours based on startup parameters, etc. All that already works.
It's a live commentary display thing for any sort of sports game (currently focussing on soccer, though) and I have 1 big textfield for the live commentary (coming from one XML file) and various other smaller fields for the score, team names, scorer, etc. (coming from another XML file).
Now I have a question: The content of, for example, the team statistics field is filled by functions that interpret the XML and come up with a list of the players and (if applicable) the goals they shot and the penalties (red and yellow card) they received.

I am having trouble working out exactly what is happening behind the scenes when dynamic menus/ submenus get displayed with some effect.I am able to read in an xml file, create a menu, and display submenus with the use of a rollover event. The submenus appear immediately, all at once. However i would like the submenu items to appear with some effect.The "models" button in the top left corner has the features i want.1. With a mouse over i want a menu to appear. The first submenu item to be appear is the last on the list.2. when the mouse drifts off the list, the submenu retracts in the same order it appeared

In the library there are four .swf movie files and I don't think they were made in the adobe flash software as they would have taken all day to do. Is there a program out there that can quickly make cool text effects with a transparent background and then be able to import the finished txt effect into adobe flash and use in the fla file?

View 2 RepliesI'm having trouble getting any of my adobe software to produce a drop shadow without pixelating the image. I'm working with FL but I've tried PS and IL and everytime it ends up looking like an 8 bit graphic. It happens with all the preset effects. The laptop I'm using has a 4 gigs of RAM and a core duo with a 512 MB graphics card How can I set my software to produce the highest quality effects?

Basically I store data such as time of the note, note duration, pitch, scale, volume, etc.I have 2 questions:How can I export all these data in order to use it in after effects (as a txt file? other formats?);How do I use the exported file in After Effects later on: How do I tell After Effects when to start playing a note in a specific time? how do I associate note height with a specific feature (lets say - square width) - and so on.I DO know some basic coding in after effect (how to associate elements inside After - such as volume and opacity) but I need to understand how to deal with an exported file (and in which format to generate it).

View 7 Repliesi am a beginner user of flash & i think i have mentioned this in my earlier post here few days back , i have just made a little dynamic text field and loading some html text and images into it via xml CDATA node. everything is working fine i just wanted to put some animation effects on my text field while loading it through xml ...i added some motion tween in the beginning which actually moves whole text field from out side of canvas to inside at its original place with ease out . its looking fine to me but i noticed that dynamic text loads a bit late and during tweening i just see empty text field .so i was wondering how to put some simple effects on loading dynamic text
View 3 Repliesi need to write AS 2.0 code for creating text effects like those we have in ms word clipart.. i dont need it to be all that complex though. what i need is to make the text pinched.. so that if there's a word, the ends of the word are more in height but in the middle, its slim then i need to make the text seem bloated.. which is exactly the opposite of pinched. then i also need the word to appear wavy.. as if the word is riding on a wave ya know.. then, i need the word to slant backwards and forwards i also need it to have a dropshadow but i found stuff by senocular on it. so i guess i'll manage that by the filters and all.

As far as I know theres in no way to cahnge the alpha of a dynamic text box. I put one in a movie clip and when i try to change the alpha of it everything else in it changes its alpha but the not the DT box. Could someone plz verify for me that u can't change alpha and help me find a component that allows alpha control with a dynamic text box. thx in advance.

I have buttons for my main nav, a main text box, and a mini text box (both text boxes are loaded dynamically from external files). I want to have the mini text box load new external text files in the main text box. For instance, I have a button for music, which loads a list of songs in the mini text box. I want to be able to click on the name of one of the songs and have it load the lyrics in the main text box. I'm sure it's simple, I'm just new.

This is what I tried, I am very new to Action Script, so excuse the futility of my code.
If you take a look at my flash movie you will see that I have draggable movie clips, which contain dynamic text fields. These text fields contain text drawn in from a simple xml document. The problem I have is that the text in the text fields is hedged right next to the border of the autosized text box. This makes them look untidy and in the worst case difficult to read. I wonder how I can add some margin to the left and right of the text to fill in some space.The code which formats the text boxes is:

View 1 RepliesI'm creating an XML-driven pie chart in AS3 with 2 text boxes in each pie slice. Both text fields are dynamic in the sense that they are populated by the XML doc and then told where to place themselves in the AS3. I've got them both using the same x and y position to place themselves at the moment (which of course puts them right one top of each other), but I'd like to make one of the fields (which acts like a label or a title to the larger number and % text field) place itself in a particular spot around the other text field. The result I'm looking for is to have the smaller "title" text field appear approximately 5 pixels above and left-justified to the larger "percentage" field.
Anyway, here are two sections of code that I've currently got. The first chunk, for the Tags portion, sets the position for the "percentage" text field using a good old x and y method. The second chunk, for Titles, is setting the position for the smaller "title" text.

I have 2 input textfields on the stage and 1 dynamic textfield.
-input1 is for quantity
-input2 is for page count
When a user enters a number into the page count it makes a calculation and places the outcome into the dynamic textfield. This textfield is for the individual price.All of this so far works. What I want to do now is create another dynamic textfield for the total. So the individual price is multiplied by the quantity and this result is put in the new dynamic text field. I have the code for that working but here is where it gets tricky (for me anyway).The total price is to start off invisible. When I roll over the individual price the total price is to appear (For a test lets just say when I roll over an area the total price appears).To stop cursor flickering this should be done inside a movieclip. So... I have create a movieclip and placed a dynamic textfield inside it. They all have instance names BUT how do I reference it in script?I need to tell the resulting calculation to be placed inside the textfield which is inside the movieclip. If it isn't inside a movie clip I can do it. But how to I reference it when inside one?
I've made a flash movie which will load four movie clips at runtime. Actually, the number of movie clips will depend upon number of "NODE" in XML file. Keeping XML file thing aside, I've tried hardcoded values; 4. Let me describe you the structure very well:
There is a main empty movie clip, instance name "mc_scroll" which will be only item on stage. In this movie clip, another movie clip whose identifier name is "blueMovie" will be loaded dynamically. Inside this "blueMovie" MC, there is a button instance name is "blueButton" and inside this button there is a "Dynamic Text" field instance name is "btn_text".
Phewww.. so long chain... inshort:
mc_scroll->blueMovie->blueButton->btn_text
Now, I can load 4 or any number of "blueMovie" inside "mc_scroll". But I also want to set the button text for each button inside each MC!! I'm sure you guys are getting what I want to do. But its not working. Below is the code:

i have a problem with my flash menu. It's simple menu that contains one MC at start that works as button, u can edit size of the menu from external .txt file by changing the value of menu length. All that works fine , my problem is that every new duplicated mc contains dynamic text area as a label. Labels are also loaded from that .txt file , but that works only for the 1st mc because the newly created text areas in mc's dont have Instance Name set. How can i assign them from as?

I can't get the code to "know" which of the dynamic thumbnails has been clicked (by "know", I mean return an index value, say 0 through 7 if there are 8 projects, that I can use to access that particular project in the array of 8 projects in the rest of the code)... So if the third movieclip thumbnail were clicked, I'd like "2" to come up somehow... I've tried this code, which is kind of lame, I know, based off of the idea of each of the thumbnail movieclips' names ending in their index number:
