ActionScript 3.0 :: Dynamically Adding Empty MCs To A Container?
Jun 19, 2009
Rather than typing out each child to add to a container mc, I wish to use a for loop to do so. However, in AS2, when adding an instance of an object, I could specify a unique name based on the current number of the loop. In AS3, I dont know how to even give the same object a unique name if multiple versions a re being pulled from the library to the Stage!
See this step of basic code:: and perhaps someone may have an obvious point to make about the differences of standard procedures, moving from AS2 to AS3::
Code:
var container:MovieClip = new MovieClip();
var wing:MovieClip = new MovieClip();
addChild(container);
I have a loop that goes through data from a book and displays it. The book is not consistent in it's layout so I am trying to display it in two different ways. First way(works fine) is to load the text from that section in to a panel and display it. The second way is to create a new panel (panel creates fine) and then add collapsable panels(nested) to that panel. Here is the code from the else loop.
else if (newPanel == false){ // simpleData is just for the title bar of the new panel // otherwise the panel has no content
[Code]....
The error I get is: ReferenceError: Error #1069: Property panel4.4 not found on components.readTest and there is no default value.
I have tried setting the "name" property instead of the "id" property.
Yes, another one of those pour souls attempting to escape the confines of AS2 and venturing into the AS3 world! I'm simply trying to dynamically add an image frame (imgframe) to the stage, sticking an image holder (imgholder) into the image frame mc and then loading an image into the image holder mc. Here's the code I've been using as a test, but it spits out errors saying that a term is undefined on "mainmask_mc.imgframe.addChild(imgholder);" code. I've tried changing it to various things, but nothing works.
The correct code to constrain movie clips to a container movie clip (or sprite or whatever) in the fashion I was looking for is this:
var picContainer:PicContainer = new PicContainer(); picContainer.x = stage.stageWidth / 2 - picContainer.width / 2; picContainer.y = stage.stageHeight / 2 - picContainer.height / 2; addChild(picContainer); var totalPics:int = 17; var pic:Pic = new Pic(); //make an instance just to get its width [Code] .....
i open a box which has selecable text init and when that is clicked it closes the first box and opens the next. but the container will not empty when the close button is clicked. i use the same method on about 6 other items and all work fin. the 1st box closes fine but the 2nd wont any 1 no y. here code
I'm working with a window scroller component, where the dynamically loaded scrolling content has buttons that load attach mc's to a clip holder in front of the window scroller. To do this I use this bit of code, which works fine:
The "this.enabled=false" is to deactivate the button in the scroll content, otherwise it will still be active in the background. So far so good.
What I need to do, once the "close" button on the attached mc is clicked, is re-enable the button. I'm thinking the way is to check if the attached mc has been unloaded, which I'm trying to do with this:
Code: if (!_level0.slideHolder_mc.content) this.calendarPagesBtn_mc.enabled = true;
I'm trying to somehow target a MC being loaded into an empty container MC. I've tried everything I could think of.
Basically, I'm making a movie editor. Right now clips are added to the stage on initial load, then when they are clicked on they are added to the "reel" and they can be previewed in the order that they are added. Now, I'm trying to get it so that when they are on the "reel" they can be click and dragged and rearranged.
Here's how the clips are added to the stage in a function called loadClips():
Here's how they are being added to the "reel" in addClips():
ActionScript Code: if (currentTarget.name == "1") { clipCopy = new Clip1();
[Code]....
Now, I just want the clips that are on the reel to be click and drag-able (along the X axis but I'll worry about that later). I realize now they're all being added as clipCopy. That's going to be an issue huh? Is there a way that I can target the container and make that mobile?
Is there a simple way to completely empty a display object container regardless of what it contains, including if it's already empty? In other words, without determining its children and using removeChild on each?
I have a main SWF with an empty MC holder and all of the main navigation button on actions. When the buttons are clicked it then loads an external SWF into the empty MC. I am having trouble telling the button to load the movie once and then stop loading if someone clicks on the link again. I want to prevent someone from double clicking to cause the animation to blink. *rapidly click on "home" to see what I mean.
I have a button on stage which has a child menu movieclip and that movieclip has three submenu button children.On each of these 3rd level buttons an event listener draws a new container on the stage and adds a new movieClip holding various info.This all works nicely, but I cannot work out a way to get an eventListener on the menu buttons to check if the container already exists so I can then stop the button repeating the add container function. So, at the moment you can repeatedly hit any of these menu buttons and they will just continue to add info movieClip children.I've tried some nice Boolean commands that should work, but I think it's the nesting of the children/relationships that are not allowing me to get this to work.So, basically for arguments sake, let's say I only have one of each item... here's the nesting of children:[code]
i have a little problem with the unloadMovie command. i have a button which is mc2_about here is the code
[Code]...
where i want to unload level1 which is a scrollbar with a text and load the portfolio section in an empty container... my structure i want to load in an empty container the swf's of the main navigation (home- portfolio,etc) and the sub-menus of it's categories[about me-print-web design) into levels. is there a simpliest way of doing that?
I have a problem with buttons and transitions and it is similar to a problem I had a couple of days ago that I posted and that was sorted out. I have two buttons onstage (they're inside a movie clip) inside the movie, on the button one I have the following
[Code]....
I have similar code on button two and this does indeed make the buttons move into place as required. My problem is this, I need to load in external swf files into an empty movie clip on the main stage called container. These External SWF files have transitions and this is where my problem is. If I place a normal button on the stage it works but not if the button is inside a movie clip and has actions applied as above. The code next is what I have believe should also be placed on the button to make swf transition one load in.
I am 1 step away from finishing my for loop. I have a item mc I have duplicated 8 items (indexarray.length) and what my loop currently does is display these 8 blank movieclips on the screen positioned 4 in each row. Inside this blank item mc I have a dynamic text field name_text within this item that call on names from a previously declared array. I also have a empty movieclip called image_holder with property name imageHolder. So far the below displays my 8 items with names but without the image:
function displayItems() { var xPos = 0; var yPos = 0;
[Code]...
All my images are in my library in movieclips name item0 to item 7 to fit in accordingly. What do I need to add to the above code to get these images inside my image_holder mc?
I know now how to add a load of MCs from the library to the stage. Do I still use MovieClips!!!?I have a simple question::: How do I populate a 'container' MC with 'instances' from the library? I know i am using AS2 lingo, but it is to make my point clear.I understand that you gotta get into classes with AS3 .Before in AS2 I would ..
I have a game where i add some cartoonish ants, that when they are clicked, they need to be removed from stage. There are 4 differend kinds of ants, so im doing a Math.random for picking which one to add. (ant 1+2+3 have 50% chance to spawn and 4th 50%)
Code: rnd_nbr = (Math.random() * 5)+1;
I have a timer doing 10 tick, and i reset the timer to make neverending. Then i have a math random and if sentences adding mc' to the stage with movement from Tweener, and event listeners for clicks. But i cant figure out how to remove them when clicked. I have done alot of failed tries right inside the click_candy_anty function. I've left them commented out.
Code: import caurina.transitions.Tweener; var ant_index:Array = new Array(10);//index for ants var ant_number:int;
I am trying to place a child swf into a parent swf via a function that is in our code library which by default places it at 0, 0. Right now it's just a matter of calling the function and in the parenthesis is the name of the swf. How can I give this swf an instance name so that I can reposition it or manipulate it however I want. I assume I need to drop it into a container but I'm getting null errors when I try that.
i am currently working in flashbuilder and i imported a swc wich containes a ratingcontainer. That ratingcontainer contains 5 ratings, they are labeled "Rating1", "Rating2, "Rating3", "Rating4", "Rating5".These are placed on the stage. i also have a sprite called "Star" and when i for example click on "Rating4" then every Rating from 1 to 4 should get stah Star sprite added to them, when i click again on Rating 3 or something then only 3 the first 3 should have the star added. i tried the following:
detailContent.RatingContainer.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, ratingClickHandler); private function ratingClickHandler(e:MouseEvent):void{
I have an Array Object called extData_arr, that contains data read from a database. Using this data, I'd like to populate my subMenu MovieClips appropriately. I can elaborate on the format of this array if required but basically the problem is this. Now this line seems to work and displays correctly as I expect
status.text = status.text + n + " : " + i + " ";//tracing
but for some reason, on the following line where I try to create empty Clips, flash just doesn't recognize the value of i and therefore refuses to create the clips. Does anyone know why?
I have here 2 options here of adding movieclips to a container, but I don't know which one is better. I want to know the pros and cons of each one. Also, What of the options is faster?. (i mean, which one uses less processor and memory resources?.
Option 1. Code: Select allvar container:MovieClip = new MovieClip(); stage.addChild(container); for (var i:int=0;i<10;i++){ var tank:Tank = new Tank(); //Tank is a movieclip in the library. container.addChild(tank); } MovieClip(container.getChildAt(2)).visible = false;
Option 2. Code: Select allvar container:Array = new Array(); for (var i:int=0;i<10;i++){ container.push(new Tank()); //Tank is a movieclip in the library. stage.addChild(container[i]); } container[2].visible = false;
I am trying to create a container MovieClip with several TextField elements contained within it. I then need the TextFields to react to ROLL_OVER or MOUSE_OVER. This works fine if the fields are placed outside of the container, but not when I do
Code: container.addChild(textField);
The TextFields are added after the container, and new ones may be created or removed later during the running of the movie. I've tried changing the value of container.mouseChildren but that didn't seem to make a difference.
I found lots of links to creating 1 moveclip dynamically but not to create multiple move clips. I am trying to create 10 empty movieclips dynamically, but I cannot seem to get my script to work. This is what I came up with and does not work: var i; for (i=0; i<10; i++) { var myMC["myMC"+i]:MovieClip = new MovieClip(); myMC["myMC"+i].name = "mc"+i; addChild("mc"+i); } Why this does not work/how do I make it work?
I want to dynamically add component in Container like Canvas(TileList constraints each child has the same size, GridList is poor in performance), for example
[Code]...
when I click the button, I hope add a component(whatever the component is, and maybe each component has different size), and if the total width of all added child is greater than myHolder, I hope the new child can begin in new line, and stretch the height of myHolder at the same time.(layout with custom code is better)
...I would like to override whatever function that adds the children to the parent Group and add them to the child viewstack instead but I can't seem to find where the adding occurs. Breakpoints in addChild and addElement shows that they are not called during the add.
I am trying to add a image to the container but am having problems. The image variable is loading fine but not attinching itself to the empty MC I have on the container.
I'm trying to dynamically create an empty text field with as at 560px wide, fill it with a bunch of text (one line) and continuously scroll it from left to right using hscroll and setInterval. I've read all kinds of specs about createTextField and hscroll but I can't get it to work. I ouputted the mytext.hscroll value and it's always at 0;
I have a scenario where I want to dynamically add words of text to a container so that it forms a paragraph of text which is wrapped neatly according to the size of the parent container. Each text element will have differing formatting, and will have differing user interaction options. For example, imagine the text " has just spoken out about ". Each word will be added to the container one at a time, at run time. The username in this case would be bold, and if clicked on will trigger an event. Same with the news article. The rest of the text is just plain text which, when clicked on, would do nothing.
Now, I'm using Flex 3 so I don't have access to the fancy new text formatting tools. I've implemented a solution where the words are plotted onto a canvas, but this means that the words are wrapped at a particular y position (an arbitrary value I've chosen). When the container is resized, the words still wrap at that position which leaves lots of space.I thought about adding each text element to an Array Collection and using this as a datasource for a Tile List, but Tile Lists don't support variable column widths (in my limited knowledge) so each word would use the same amount of space which isn't ideal. how I can plot words onto a container so that I can retain formatting, events and word wrapping at paragraph level, even if the container is resized?
I'm writing a preview site that will load SWFs/images from a URL into a preview pane. However, the primary problem I'm running into is actually loading these SWFs. It seems that the object/embed tags require width/height attributes. I will not know the exact size of these SWFs; in fact, I will know absolutely nothing about them.
What I'm asking is, what is the best way to load in these SWFs? Is there a library that exists to do this? Or do I need to do it myself?
Based on the Kirupa Flash XML Gallery, I tried to expand it as far as I could. Right now, it loads the images, generates buttons dynamically according to how many images are in the XML que, and each image is hyperlinked. I want to load in a swf file dynamically via XML into an another empty movieclip everytime I go to a new image. In another words if I have 9 images in my gallery, each image is assigned a swf file to load into another empty movieclip.
