ActionScript 3.0 :: Dynamically Resize Stage Within Fixed Browser Size?
Dec 31, 2009
i have searched this and many other forums as well as the doc for the answer to this question. I have a flash movie in which I dynamically create a diagram at runtime. The size of the diagram varies, but I need to display it within a fixed size area on the HTML page. What I would like is for the stage to scroll dynamically based on the size of the diagram, but have no scrollbars at all if the diagram fits within the fixed area in the browser.
I want it to take the whole screen but i dont want to scale it.The elements on the application will change the position according to the stage size,but i dont know how to change the stage size according to the browser size.
I'm wondering how to set my stage to resize relative to the size of the user's browser and keep the main movieclip centered. But I don't want the stage to scale, I want the physical boundaries to get larger without scaling the content.
The reason for this: I have something that we'll call "snow" falling in the background. When the browser resizes, I don't want the stage to scale and the snow flakes get bigger or smaller, but have the stage show more area for the snow flakes to fall. I already have the snow flakes falling outside the current stage boundaries, I'm just wondering how to make the stage boundaries extend dynamically to the size of the browsers.
Im trying to make a button to open a link, in a new window, at a fixed size and without toolbars etc.
Ive searched these forums and looked for variuos guides, but to no avail. I cant get them to work =(. I found a guide(which I cant find again o0) on Kirupa but it didnt work either.
heres what I came up with:
code1: Code: on (release) { getURL("http://img519.imageshack.us/img519/5747/screenie8ya.jpg", "_blank");
[Code]....
how to get these to work? or a guide on one that works? or simply a script that will work?
I have a SWF stage that needs to be resizable, as it loads content dynamically which may have different dimensions. Yet, I need an object (namely a 'Close' button) to keep its absolute size no matter how big or small the stage gets. I also need it to keep its relative position, let's say always at the top right corner of the resized Stage.
I have been trying to resize my swf width and height to the browser size for the past 10 days...this is what I was able to get so far looked at numerous tutorials online...but no luck with my swf I would like my images to fill the entire browser without the white background on the side and I would like to do it so that my images will not look distorted...
is there anyway to have a published flash swf fill 100% of the browser? especially when the broswer resizes, so does the movie to match the browser size?
I have been looking for a tutorial or thread to help me figure this out. I am trying to make a site that when the browser is resized the objects in the site either resize or keep their position and stay visible. The link below is an example of exactly how I want this to work.[URL]...
Im working in AS2, and Im not sure if this can be done in flash alone or needs to be done in html or a combination of both.
what I want to do is publish my flash file so that it scales down but not up!So if a browser window happens to be smaller than the pixel height, the movie is scaled down but if the browser window is bigger than the pixel size, the movie is not resized and just centered.
I'm trying to get my main class to resize to the browser window size. I'm listening on the stage to Event.RESIZE, updating my width/height to match the stageWidth/stageHeight, and drawing a rectangle to show me how big it is. When I resize, it flashes between a small and big size every other time the event fires. The width and height are correct in both cases, but in the "small" case, everything is in a small box.
What i try to do, is to make a "wrapper" in Flash, in which other swfs could be embedded. (passing the URL of the external SWF by URL) to attach a link to the swfs. (ClickTag - Issue, maybe someone knows this).In the HTML - Code this would look like this:
The SWF "wrapper.swf" should load the "path-to-external-swf.swf" an puts a onClick - Event on the whole area.That works just fine, BUT The loaded external SWF should always fit to the stage size (like 100% width and 100% height) .My code looks like this:
Code: // Variables should be passed by URL _root.filename = "http://example.com/animation.swf"; _root.clickTag = "http://www.example2.com";[code]....
Code: mClip._width = Stage.width;
When i click on the swf, the movie fits exactly to the stage width...
Here is my problem (unfortunatelly didn't find solution @google or in this forum): I'm loading external swf[AS2] into main swf[AS3] using Loader class. The main swf is 800 x 600 and the external swf is 290 x 247. After adding the external swf to the main swf the external swf expands (scale to) from 290 x 247 to the main swf's size: 800 x 600. How can i prevent this? I want the loaded swf to save it's original stage size.
I want to create a panel (or any other component) inside a component that has a 5 pixel border on all sides, but scales fully when the window is resized. I know I can set width to "100%" to make it resize, but that gives me no borders. If I put it to "95%",I have borders, but they scale annoyingly. Also, that only works for borders on the right or lower bounds, and not to the left or upper sides.Is there a convenient way to do this without having to write tons of resize-code (in which case I will not bother and just accept bad rescale behaviour, as it is for a private pet project).
EDIT: I know that I can just overwrite the display handling and set the positions manually every frame. I wondered if there is a cheap way to do it in the mxml-structure, along these lines:
<mx:Panel> width="100%" height="100%" </mx:Panel>
Coming from C++ and Java, I am intrigued by the option of setting something to "95%" and let the library work out the details, instead of having to write many lines of code, just so my text-area always keeps a 5 pixel distance from the border, but scales with window width.If there is no easier way to do it than figuring out pixel sizes by hand and setting the coordinates.
But it doesn't work. No error, no warnings. So I don't know what is the problem. It works only in the flash player (Ctrl+Enter), maybe the HTML is wrong?
I have a full browser site and when it is resized smaller the elements will overlap each other. I'd like to stop them from overlapping by stopping the flash from resizing after a certain screen size is reached. [URL]
Code:
var w : Number = Stage.width; var h : Number = Stage.height; w = w < 800 ? 800 : w; h = h < 600 ? 600 : h;
I've tried this and it doesn't work for me...Here is the code that I am using to set the stage elements:
I wasn't sure where to put this post. I hope this is the right place.
This is what I want to do:
On screen resolutions up to 800x600, I want my Flash movie to resize to 100% width and height of the browser window. On screen resolutions higher than 800x600, I want the Flash movie to be a fixed size (say 800px x 600px exactly).

I have a htmlText field that is displaying xml content. One of the features I've written imports a swf and displays it in the htmlText field via an <img src> tag. The swf displays some text that is stripped out of the htmlText field when my as3 code finds [Boxed Text]Strip out this content [End Boxed Text]. The result would display 'Strip out this content" in the swf within the <img src> tag. This works great, as the swf has the dimensions of w.300 x h. 250, but I have received a request to resize the swf based off the length/height of the 'Strip out this content" text. I can resize the textbox in the swf via [boxedText.autoSize = TextFieldAutoSize.LEFT;], however, when I do that, the stage size of the swf within the <img src> remains at a fixed 250 height, and as much as I try, I can not find a way to resize the stage. I am under the impression that there is only one main stage, and trying to change the size of a secondary stage within an imported swf is not possible, but then again, I'm also under the impression that anything is possible in flash.
I have a button on stage in a movie, the button ("clicker") is empty apart from the "hit" frame. The stage and button are 300x300 and i'm using swfobject to display the flash movie at 400x600 pixels. I have the following actionscript.[code]I want teh button to expand to fill the available stage space (which is 400x600 in this example) so i use the following...
-clicker._width = Stage.width;
-clicker._height = Stage.height;
however this causes the button to disapear from the stage, possibly down to 0x0 in size, as opposed to filling the available stage space. It's been a while since i worked with actionscript so it's probably something obvious, however i can't seem to spot what the problem is.
I am writing an app that, when loaded byt the HTML, could be any size. For example, using SWFObject and the following line: swfobject.embedSWF("Untitled-1.swf", "SMHSWF", "500", "500", "10", "expressInstall.swf", null, params); The problem is I'm having some difficulty finding the size once the SWF is loaded. I've tried the following:
I'm creating a photo slide show that has the ability to go full screen. I have some elements which are always on the stage and some elements which I am adding from the library and/or creating in the code. When I issue the resize event, my stage movieclips are still on the stage and can be repositioned but the elements I created dynamically (most notably the thumbnails which I want to reposition) are gone.
When I use the following code, I'm able to track the stage size within the browser. But what I don't understand is that when I use StageScaleMode.SHOW_ALL instead, the reported height and width of the stage is always fixed at 1920 x 1080 (my stage size in Flash authoring) no matter how small I bring the browser into.
