ActionScript 3.0 :: Embedded Font - How To Adjust Letter Spacing
Dec 21, 2009
I am using Cu3er plug-in and I am using an embedded font to allow for a fade in/out effect. My only problem is the kerning is to tight, id there a way to adjust the letterspacing using action script?
I'm using CS5 and I've been designing with a non-basic font, and adjusted the letter spacing in some movieclips. I decided to embed the font through the Text -> Font Embedding method and go back and change all the textfields to the embedded font. Now the textfields that I adjusted the letter spacing on seem to keep reverting back to "0" whenever export the movie
Is it possible to adjust the frame spacing for all layers? For example, I have my stuff (graphics, text, etc..) spaced at 24 frames. Is there a way to globally adjust everything to 48 frame spacing? or 12 frame spacing?
I am trying to apply letter spacing to a dynamic textfieldI set it in the properties panel.I know that this does not work for newly added text.I searched the web and nothing I found works.when I try setNewTextFormat I get the errorWarning Migration issue The method setNewTextFormat is no longer supported. Use the TextField.defaultTextFormat property insteadhow do I use that defaultTextFormat, I tried this
PHP Code: import typewriter; var fmt:TextFormat = outputTextBox.getTextFormat()
Letter spacing doesn't seen to work for dynamic text fields in Flash. I use CS4 on Mac, player version 10.0.2. Does it also depend on the font that's used?
I would like to apply letter spacing on a dynamic text box, but it seems once I export the swf, the letter spacing defaults back to 0. How can this be done?
I want to create animation of the text where at frame 1, letter spacing is 0 and at frame 200, letter spacing is 60 for specified text. This process is unsuccessful via motion tween in cs4 flash, and i guess neither in earlier versions, nor that I have done that before. But I was certain that it would be very straight forward to achieve via motion tween, so far it feels that I was wrong and for such simple animation and straight forward concept, why it doesn't work, again, via motion tween. I presume I can write AS3 code spinet that would run every frame and increase or decrease property value for letterSpacing, to achieve the effect. Why such basic manipulation of text can not be done via motion tween?
I took a look around this forum and found some answers on how to create an animation in Flash where letter spacing is increased from around 0 to 15. In other words, the letters in a word seem to be expanding outward. Unfortunately, all of the answers I found involved Action Scripting. I'm new to Flash and have not used AS. Is there anyway to do this using a regular tween?
I'm building a dynamic menu and am struggling to give the same distance to the text fields with different widths. When I turn on the "autoSize TextFieldAutoSize.LEFT" some text fields are overlapped, and, aligned when I turn off, but, they all get the same size (100px by default - dont know why), which makes the distance between them unequal.
Here is the code:
Actionscript Code: // main timeline objectvar index:Object=this;// New Xml Objectvar fileXml:XML;// check how many menu items we have.var totalMenuItems:Number;// Main Menu Propertiesvar spacing:int=5;var menuItem_txt:TextField;// New URL Requestvar xmlLoader:URLLoader=new URLLoader(new

I am working with classic (non-TLF) dynamic text in AS3. My problem is that there is spacing issues between the individual letters. Has anyone else ran into this? I'm using an embedded font with Arabic support
I can't seem to control my letter spacing (kerning) in my dynamic text field. I gave the field an instance name of about_txt and I loaded the text from a text document. The text shows up fine but it is all bunched together. Here is my code:
Code: var about_req:URLRequest = new URLRequest("about_txt.txt"); var about_1dr:URLLoader = new URLLoader(about_req); about_1dr.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onComplete); function onComplete(event:Event):void{ about_txt.text = event.target.data; }var fmt:TextFormat = new TextFormat(); fmt.letterSpacing = 10 about_txt.setTextFormat(fmt);
No matter what value I put in for letterSpacing nothing seems to happen.
I can't get the letterspacing property to function in a dynamic text box, I have tested it with color and it works just fine. just letterspacing. And I have embedded the font, so I know it isn't that. The code affecting the text box is this.
Code: var txt_box0:TextField var format1:TextFormat = new TextFormat(); format1.letterSpacing = 4 //trace(format1.letterSpacing) txt_box0.setTextFormat(format1)
Those working with AS2 have had similar problems but managed to fix it by typing "setNewTextFormat", which has been phased out in AS3.
I have an embedded font in my AIR/AS3 app that lacks support for most internationalcharacters. Using TextField and StyleSheet with the font-family property, I assumed I would simply need to do this:font-family: Interstate-Regular, _sans;This works if TextField.embedFonts = false; but then Interstate-Regular isn't embedded for users that don't have it on their system. With TextField.embedFonts = true; the text doesn't even show up. Is there a way to embed Interstate-Regular and still use _sans as a fallback system font without embedding it as well?
I'm using Flex 4. I'm trying to apply a embedded font in all Alert components of the application, to get the same style that all the app, of course. I code in my CSS file:
[Code]...
The font-family worked to all componentes, but not to the Alert component. In alert the text message and title got unvisible. If I change to other font-family it works correctly, just the embedded font doesn't work on Alert component. Anyone got this problem? Obs: The embedded font worked in all the app, just the Alert no.
I have generated an swf file that contains my embedded font of specified Unicode range, then I am loading this swf into my application. The code in the generated file for the font, automatically registers the font using the Font.registerFont method. I then load this swf file into my application, I never add it to the display list, I just created an instance of the file so that the code is executed to register the font.
Then I use the font name when I create embedded text fields and there you go it works... well it used to, I am not having any luck at the moment though. Sometimes it displays fine, other times it all appears cut off and I see a few pixels of the text I am trying to display.... Anyone else had a similar issue? Know what it might be? I have created a class below that I am using for the embedded font text, any issues people see with this?
I know how to adjust the whole text box size using auto size, but I haven't found an easy answer for merely adjusting the size of the font.
The Textbox size won't change, but sometimes a word will be long and other times short. Now I have a small font that looks silly when the word is small and doesn't fit when the word is big.
I'm making a flash trivia section in flash in which i got all trivia facts from a XML file I want to show these facts in Hindi unicode fonts thats why I set the proerties of my dynamic text field in flash like this
1.)Text type= dynamic 2.)Font =Arial Unicode MS 3.)Font Size=12 4.)Font rendering Method= Anti alias for readibility 5.)Line Type=Multi line 6.)Character Embedding=Devanagri(128 glyphs)
Now I can see my text in Hindi fonts but there is no spacing between words Is it possible to give space between these words ?
I'm building a small Flex UI component that displays a colored square next to a label of text. I want to be able to specify a size for the square and internally adjust the label's properties such that the line height matches the square and the text is vertically centered with respect to the square.
At the moment, I'm using mx.controls.Label for the text. Setting the fontSize style to the square's size does not work, the label then becomes too big. After tracing a couple of values in the debugger, I found that
the line height of the internal text field (sum of the ascent and descent properties of the TextFieldMetrics object obtained through getTextFieldMetircs()) seems to end up about 120% of what I specify a s font size.there's a default "leading" of 2 pixels that I can not change directly at the Label level, this adds to the overall height of the internal text field (getTextFieldMetrics().height)the height of the Label component then is an additional 5 pixels larger than that, I don't know where those come from.
This component requires that you use Dynamic text, the Multiline behavior, and embed all fonts. There are 5 lines of copy on the banner. I need to make two of the lines of copy a larger font and also adjust line spacing on two of the lines. I can accomplish this using Static Text but cannot seem to get it to work in Dynamic Text. If I change the font size on selected text it changes ALL of the font sizes for everything within that text box.
I've got an inputfield.OnChange Event Handler. When someone types a letter, i want the letter to become 0, then 1, then 2, and so on until 9 and then i want the letter to be there. And when they click on another letter, same effect happens.so at the end if i typed, "testing", each letter scrolls 0-9 like a roll dial and settles on the letter typed. What i've managed to do is make it work, but if i type at normal speed and not slow, i end up getting something like: t32t43g
I have a combo box that I'm trying to enter a letter for to search values for that particular letter and I keep getting this error. Every other combo box works fine when a key is pressed so I'm not sure why this particular combo box registers an error. The complete error looks like this:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at mx.controls.listClasses::ListBase/findStringLoop()[C:autobuild3.2.0frameworksprojectsframeworks rcmxcontrolslistClassesListBase.as:7715] at mx.controls.listClasses::ListBase/findString()[C:autobuild3.2.0frameworksprojectsframeworks rcmxcontrolslistClassesListBase.as:7700]
My question is simple: Does a externally loaded swf inhert the embedded font of the main swf that loads it? so the do I have embedded the same font in both the main and externally loaded swf?
I'm trying to create an RPG-like game text effect where the text string is displayed letter by letter, like a typewriter. Here's my code:
Actionscript Code: function doSomething(number){ var errors:Array = new Array(); errors[0] = "The specified file could not be located."; errors[1] = "Another error"; var
