I have a textbox on the stage where its letter spacing is set to 4. When I change the textbox content with code the letter spacing goes back to 0.
So is there a way to lock the text spacing or do I have to create a textformat and keep resetting the text spacing?
Letter spacing doesn't seen to work for dynamic text fields in Flash. I use CS4 on Mac, player version 10.0.2. Does it also depend on the font that's used?

I'm using CS5 and I've been designing with a non-basic font, and adjusted the letter spacing in some movieclips. I decided to embed the font through the Text -> Font Embedding method and go back and change all the textfields to the embedded font. Now the textfields that I adjusted the letter spacing on seem to keep reverting back to "0" whenever export the movie

View 4 RepliesI want to create animation of the text where at frame 1, letter spacing is 0 and at frame 200, letter spacing is 60 for specified text. This process is unsuccessful via motion tween in cs4 flash, and i guess neither in earlier versions, nor that I have done that before. But I was certain that it would be very straight forward to achieve via motion tween, so far it feels that I was wrong and for such simple animation and straight forward concept, why it doesn't work, again, via motion tween. I presume I can write AS3 code spinet that would run every frame and increase or decrease property value for letterSpacing, to achieve the effect. Why such basic manipulation of text can not be done via motion tween?

In other words, the letters in a word seem to be expanding outward. Unfortunately, all of the answers I found involved Action Scripting. I'm new to Flash and have not used AS. Is there anyway to do this using a regular tween?

View 1 RepliesI can't seem to control my letter spacing (kerning) in my dynamic text field. I gave the field an instance name of about_txt and I loaded the text from a text document. The text shows up fine but it is all bunched together. Here is my code:

No matter what value I put in for letterSpacing nothing seems to happen.
I can't get the letterspacing property to function in a dynamic text box, I have tested it with color and it works just fine. just letterspacing. And I have embedded the font, so I know it isn't that. The code affecting the text box is this.

Those working with AS2 have had similar problems but managed to fix it by typing "setNewTextFormat", which has been phased out in AS3.

I've got an inputfield.OnChange Event Handler.When someone types a letter, i want the letter to become 0, then 1, then 2, and so on until 9 and then i want the letter to be there.And when they click on another letter, same effect happens.so at the end if i typed, "testing", each letter scrolls 0-9 like a roll dial and settles on the letter typed.What i've managed to do is make it work, but if i type at normal speed and not slow, i end up getting something like: t32t43g

Every other combo box works fine when a key is pressed so I'm not sure why this particular combo box registers an error. The complete error looks like this:

View 4 RepliesI'm trying to design a tablet flash applet. Does anyone know how to lock the orientation of the html embedded player player in landscape mode when it has been full screened? So far this is what I have in the html file:

That did wonders for maximing the flash window, but the moment I change orientation on the tablet the flash player also changed orientation. I know there is a way of locking the orientation to landscape mode in ActionScript 3, but is there an ActionScript 2 equivalent for it?

This is the code, which works fine:[code]This opens up the save file dialog as expected. I'm using this rather than sending the byteData to PHP because I want the user to have a familiar dialog box that lets them set their own file name.
The problem comes when users have their operating system configured to display file extensions, like I do. This means that in the save dialog the file name contains the extension as seen in the image below, and so it is very easy for the user to delete that extension when they rename the file. Because the default file type for this box is 'All files', if the extension is deleted the file is saved with no type.I don't know of any way to force a file type on the save dialog (if there is one that would be my preferred route) so failing that can anyone suggest a safe way for me to do this that still allows the user to set the file name themselves using a standard dialog for their OS?I did try putting in a call to FileReference.browse() before the save() as shown in this tutorial, but that throws an error because you can only perform one FileReference call at a time.

The text is centered and say Arial black and font size = 40 pts.
The problem is there is to much spacing between each line.
How do I "scootch" it up so it looks like this

I am new to the forum, I have used Flash MX 2004 for quite a while and had never had this problem, recently I gave my site a "facelift" in CS4 and I got it exactly how I wanted it, I exported the swf file and saved the flash file. That was a few days ago, Today I wanted to add a new piece to my portfolio so I opened the same exact file today and everything had shifted! SOOOO FRUSTRATING as I felt I had finally achieved what I wanted to. This is the one I was really happy with:

Have I lost my mind, or is Flash CS4 incapable of handling line spacing? Some of my text boxes are unaffected, but as soon as I apply multiple line spacing values within one box, Flash reverts to just one of the values. How can that be? Isn't this a professional design application?
View 5 RepliesI've just switched over to Mac OS 10.6 and found that the line spacing has changed in my files. Basically it seems to have increased the line spacing so the static text fields take up more space. I've updated Flash and I'm now on 10.6.1 but the problem remains. It doesn't do this on 10.5.8 or in InDesign and SL (but it does do a similar thing in Quark 7.5). It doesn't seem to matter what font it is either. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I'm making a flash trivia section in flash in which i got all trivia facts from a XML file I want to show these facts in Hindi unicode fonts thats why I set the proerties of my dynamic text field in flash like this

Now I can see my text in Hindi fonts but there is no spacing between words Is it possible to give space between these words ?
