ActionScript 3.0 :: Enlarging Movieclips Without Enlarging Child Objects?

I am adding buttons to a rectangle movieclip with actionscript. With every addition I am increasing the height of the rectangle to accommodate the new button. I use recMovieClip.height += 20; This increases the height of the movieclip but it also increases the size of the buttons which are children of the movieclip.

Here's what I am trying to do: zoom out (shrinking everything), while revealing more space to work with. What I did: Modify _xscale and _yscale. It worked, however the results are not what I expected. Problem: While this cause everything to shrink by the scale amount, the entire Stage shrunk as well. So my 700x425 flash is mostly empty, while the stage itself is being rendered in a small rectangle in the corner. I cannot move any objects outside of this small box. Most of the flash space is wasted. Is there any way to shrink the scale AND enlarge the Stage.width/height at the same time to zoom out and create more canvas space?

ok, i am attaching 6 pictures off stage dynamically using setInterval as a loop (so it will attach the clips once every x seconds). I'm positioning them in a line vertically, and then tweening them onto the stage with mc_tween2.Once the pics are in final position, the goal is this: 1.click on any pic and it will grow larger and position itself towards the center of the stage 2.click another pic and the last pic will shrink to original size and go back to it's original place.
#2 is where I'm having the problem. I've got the enlarging and repositioning working, and i can get the last pic to move back, but it won't go to the right place. In every variation i try, it either goes to the first position in the vertical stack, or the last position. The closest i can get to what i want is to swap the last clicked picture with the position of each picture as you click on them.basically how can i get Flash to remember the location of each pic, so when i click another pic, the last selected one will go back to it's original place?

I have a question and would like some help with creating a flash gallery but for showing information rather than pictures. I will try to make this as clear as possible but if its confusing please let me know and I will give more details.Basically I trying to make a vertical timeline on the lefthand side with years (in text) which expand slightly on mousover and when clicked show the relavent information on the righthand side for that year.I can't seem to get the text to expand on mouseover?

I took a class in Flash way back when it first came out. I haven't used it since then until I recently got the CS5 version for a specific task. I'm revising a small site which includes articles about musicians and sound clips of their work. The mp3 player I'm using is the open-source XSPF Player. It has a clean minimal look that fits my page design. The only problem is the text size inside the player that shows the artist name, song title, etc. It's way too small. I contacted one of the people who has released a modified version of this player, and he said yes it would be no problem to modify the .swf file to display the text differently. However, when I open the player with Flash, the tools are grayed out. I explored all the options on the menus and panels without finding a way to get at the insides of this player. I've two options here: 1-Get specific advice from one of you who has used Flash more than I have, or 2-Get advice about the location a good tutorial. I tried Googling the info I need but didn't get useful results

I Managed to insert a photo gallery using lightbox...however, would like to make some changes:
1. Fixed previous and next buttons, been playing around with the code, with no successful result.
2. I have a group of photos, and if I want to enlarge the one I click, I cannot. Whatever photo I click, always the first one of the group appears.

i have problem with swfLoader in flex, when i close following code in click method i can easly add many swf to main application

I m trying to make sense of how to load a swf into a parent MovieClip and allow them to communicate.I ve attached two zip files � one which works fine and the other doesn�t. Unfortunately (for me), the one which doesn�t work is closer to my current project.I need to load movieclips into the parent movieclip. The parent movieclip has controls which rely on values parsed from the child movieclip.In the parent movieclips I wait until the loading is complete and so the values should be passed. However, the values aren�t passed unless I use a button (or timer), to pass the values (see the working exampes).The code which doesn�t work is:

I want to set the scaleX and scaleY of certain child objects within a movieclip, but there are tons of other elements inside of it. Here's what I have so far:

This returns 60 child objects. The 50 I want to scale down have "_mc" appended to their instance name. I figure I should make a new array or variable and set the scale of those to whatever I want.

I have a movieClip within another MovieClip. I gave the child movieClip the instance name "hSprite" and I added it to the parent movieClip stage. Now I get an error like the following.
[Fault] exception, information=ReferenceError: Error #1056: Cannot create property hSprite on com.objects.Hero. If I remove the instance name from the child movieclip, then the error goes away. but when I add the instance name back, the error reappears again.
Keep in mind that both classes are set for export. The parent class is embeded by a custom class which work perfectly fine. But the minute I give the child movieClip a instance name, the error starts up again.

I'm trying to build a simple mask with 2 children mcs. The masking is almost working, but the two children only mask where they don't overlap. I've tried using a mask layer and using code, and it's the same effect either way.

When you make a simple game that maybe has a few different 'screens' like start, help, and high score, and a few levels, and you don't wish to load from external swf's. What is the best practice for making these games as far as the timeline?To just have ONE frame that add's and removes child movieclips from the stage?

I am having issues trying to get a simple button to make the playhead jump to a certain frame when pressed. I have the main timeline and then have a movieclip which has buttons inside of it and actionscript applied in the movieclips timeline. Is this a no? That is should all actions go on the main timeline? If this is so then does anyone know why I keep getting an error that it can't find the instance named button inside the movieclip?

On stage I have 2 objects on stage that share the base-class of "ABaseClass". Each has a child object that shares the base-class of "AnotherBaseClass". They child objects do not share the same parent, and have unique Linkage identifiers of "Object2Design" and "Object1Design", so they should be able to share the same name on the display-list, right? But if these child objects share the same name I get the following error. How to allow child objects to share base-classes and names?

in short, i have object A, a container. Within this is object B (a child object) which has some x and Y offset that I input.I need to know the offset of object B, because i want to place other objects at the same onscreen position as B, but on the same level of the heirarchy as object A My problem though, is that B's offset from A isn't changing when i would expect it to - when the parent object is scaled. I set B's x offset to 200 pixels, and no matter how much i scale up or down the parent object, B remains in the same visual position relative to it. And B's x property is still 200, regardless of parent scale.This information is not meaningful to me, because i know that B's actual offset position from A is more or less than 200 onscreen pixels. I need to be able to figure out exactly what it actually is.

I am stuck with the ActionScript here. I have a very complex animated flash movie for eLearning. These contain around 10 to 15 frames. In each frame I am having multiple movie clip symbols. The animation has been created using a blend of scripting and also normal flash animation.Now I want to create pause and play functionality for the entire movie. I have to make a photo album, so I'm creating a container mc for a single pic.Inside it I have an empty mc where i'll "loadMovie" the pic jpg, a simple animated gif serving as a preloader and a dynamic text to load the pic title from a XML file.Then I tween the container.pic and the container.preloader.The problem come when I have multiple instances of container, because my function only works for the last created instance.

What I've got is a clip that when moused over expands down, and when moused out contracts back up again...simple right.
The problem I've got is that as soon as I place a child inside the expanding clip (which is another expanding and contracting clip). the listener gets blocked by its child making it contact before it should. This sounds a little confusing, but will make alot more sense when viewing my code here...

What seems to happen is as soon as the cursor goes over any of the MovieClips that are inside of the expandable button the MouseOver event is getting cancelled. and the MouseOut event gets Called (I presume that it no longer thinks it is over the clip due to the call getting blocked by the content clips). This can be seen when the mouse goes over the text (which is a MovieClip inside the expanding button). I'm pretty sure this is to do with event propagation, and is probably quite straight forward to sort, but I'm just not sure where? here's my code...
