View 1 RepliesI'm making a game so far with 2 characters (in 2 classes); Adeiza and Dooray. Combat and movement are all fine, but now I need to make a ranged special. I've created a MovieClip and a class file for AdzFire, which is basically a fireball created by Adeiza in a certain frame. This fireball is created and moves in the direction I ask it to, which is fine. My problem lies with it hitting the opposing character (currently Dooray). Here are the codes I think are affected;1. The code in AdzFire.as, called with an enterframe event.
Code:
public function fire(evt:Event) {

I have a a structure like this:
e.item.fatturato_ac_s1
e.item.fatturato_ac_s2
e.item.fatturato_ac_s3
e.item.fatturato_ac_s4
[...]
and so on...
In order to compute dynamically the string I wrote:
e.item.(myStr.toString()) where myStr (type string) = "fatturato_ac_s" + Index (so I can have fatturato_ac_s1, fatturato_ac_s2, ...)
I can correctly retrieve the value of e.item.(myStr.toString()) (a numeric value), but if I try to put it in a variable I get the error in the title:
myVariable = e.item.(myStr.toString())
myVariable is a Number.
I also tried:
myVariable = Number(e.item.(myStr.toString()))
But doesn't work... the same if I try String to String....
Trying to set up my own site. Have seen this one and would quite like to copy the layout and functions of the buttons etc.So I have started out by creating one button which enters the stage and the remains in the UpState until roll over or clicked.I have tried to add this function:
import flash.events.MouseEvent;
large_btn.addEventListener.(MouseEvent.CLICK, openlarge);
function openlarge(event:MouseEvent):void{

the fighting game class creates an instance of fighter, then adds a child of "dude" to fighter. I want to animate dude, so I tried doing this:
Code:
for (var i:uint = 0; i < fighter.numChildren; i++)
var mychild = fighter.getChildAt(i);
fighter.addChild(dude);
thats in the constructor.
TypeError: Error #1123: Filter operator not supported on type Fighter
Code:
fighter.(MyChild as MovieClip.gotoAndPlay("walkingright");
that is within the fightinggame.as. Now, the game runs, but when I press right ( the keys that cause that movieclip to animate), it throws a -
TypeError: Error #1123: Filter operator not supported on type Fighter.
at FightingGame/Update()[C:UsersOlsenDocumentsFightingGameFightingGame .as:399]
at flash.utils::Timer/_timerDispatch()
at flash.utils::Timer/tick()
Also the movieclip does not show up, and does not animate. What is this, I can find little information about it, and how do i fix it? the area where it throws the error is the gotoandplay line.

import flash.display.MovieClip;
import flash.events.KeyboardEvent;

I just cant get rid of that error.
How can I define a custom operator - for example equality operator - for a custom class?
View 1 RepliesI have 50 movie clips in the Library that use Linkage to set the Class name to: Img1, Img2, Img3, ..., Img50. I have a parent class named RandImg. I want the constructor for RandImg to randomly select one of the 50 movie clips from the Library and display it. I could get this working by generating a random number, and then writing a really huge switch statement to associate each possible random number with its respective Library Movie Clip Class name, but I would much rather do this with a dynamic/variable class name based on the random number, such as:

I'm trying to apply a custom filter to bitmapData. I keep getting two errors, really frustrating: Code: Scene 1, Layer 'actions', Frame 1, Line 39 1067: Implicit coercion of a value of type CustomFilter to an unrelated type flash.display:BitmapData. Scene 1, Layer 'actions', Frame 1, Line 39 1067: Implicit coercion of a value of type int to an unrelated type flash.filters:BitmapFilter. .fla: (error line is highlited)

I am new to AS3, as well as Flash in general, so forgive me if this seems highly elementary. All I am trying to do is create a custom class that extends the MovieClip class and contains a custom property of "marker". I want to be able to use and change the value of this custom property on the timeline for an instance of this class and have it behave just like any other (Ex: this.x ==> this.marker).

My btns do not work, I think becuase I added this: import flash.display.Sprite; import flash.net.navigateToURL; import flash.net.URLRequest; import flash.net.URLVariables; to my time line code in an attempt to get four btns to funtion out correctly with a navigateToURL "_self". Now the IIS browser reads "custom filter or module, such as URLScan, restricts access to the file".
View 2 RepliesI have a custom class being constructed from my main class. In the custom class it has another custom class that is passed in as a parameter. I would like to strictly type the parameter variable but when I do, 'the type is not a compile type constant etc'.This, I understand, is because the custom class used as a parameter has not yet been constructed.It all works when I use the variable type ( * ) to type the parameter.I suspect this is a design flaw, in that I am using an incorrect design pattern.It is actually hand-me-down code, having received a large project from someone else who is not entirely familiar with oop concepts and design patterns.
I have considered using a dummy constructor for the parametered class in my main class but the passed in class also takes a custom class (itself with a parametered constructor). I am considering using ... (rest) so that the custom classes' parameters are optional.Is there any other way to control the order of construction of classes? Would the rest variables work?edit)in main.as within the constructor or another function

customclass1(parameter1);

I am trying to figure out how to open a pop up window in my Air application, in a secondary Window, instead of the main application window.I am using the ReusableFX components, which include a custom DataGrid with filtering and other capabilities. The filtering feature displays a pop up window via PopUpManager when you click on the top of a column in the grid.
PopUpManager.addPopUp(this, FlexGlobals.topLevelApplication as DisplayObject);
The problem is that the pop up window opens in the main application - I am assuming because of the 'topLevelApplication' reference.So, I need a way to open this window in the current Air "s:Window". I am assuming I need a way to walk up : this.parent.parent or this.owner.owner - though I have tried that and it did not seem to work (it said null reference).OR, is there a way to get the current top most window / component (NOT the main application / window)?
Update:I decided to create a new project for the component, and add in the Air libraries. Now I am able to access the "NativeApplication.nativeApplication.activeWindow" call. That gives me the correct Air window. However, it does not seem to be working:
PopUpManager.addPopUp(this, NativeApplication.nativeApplication.activeWindow as DisplayObject);
My popup does not appear. I am assuming because "activeWindow" is not actually a DisplayObject?(so how do I get the DisplayObject if that's the case?)
This is my first time working with a class attached to a movieclip that is nested inside a class attached to a movie clip.I've tested all the properties and methods of PTListItem.as and they work properly but when I try to call them on the list item through PTListTop.as it returns undefined.The end goal is to dynamically load a checklist via a txt file.
View 1 RepliesI have the following situation:I have an event handler, that displays small messages in my application's statusbar.These messages get passes through by dispatching events from custom components.A simple message could be like "HTTP Error" or so.Now, the main event listener, in the main application file, listens to the event dispatched by any custom component,but seems to refuse listening to events dispatched by custom AS classes.Here is my code for the custom event:
package main.events
{
import flash.events.Event;[code]..
So to sum it all up:
- The event listener listens to the custom event dispatched by any custom component.
- The event listener does not listen to the custom event duspatched by an AS class.
Those who wonder, the event really gets dispatched, that's why I added a trace call.
I couldn't work it out yet...
package components {
public class templateSelection extends VBox {
static public var tempSelectionBag:Dictionary;
[Code]....
I want to have a custom class tempSelection with a Dictionary as a public accessable property of that class. If I use this code, the compiler tells me:
1046: Typ wurde nicht gefunden oder war keine Kompilierungszeit- onstante:Dictionary
Which translates to:
Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: Dictionary
Any good 'real world' examples of when and why you might use the map and filter methods of the new Vector class in Actionscript?

View 5 RepliesI'm trying to create some script that will connect to my PHP script, which has searched the database for whatever I told it to....and it will right the results to XML that I send to Flash. What I've been up all night doing is trying to make some kind of class that will allow me to filter those results avtively?
If you're running Firefox:
Go to the address bar and type about:config
When you get there you can filter them by typing any letter
It will return all the results that have that/those letters in them
Notice how it does it for every letter
Actually you can see you preview of it by using the iTunes search feature
I've had enough of these undefined messages in my test output..the same XMLNode object whatever selections worked without the class and now where I could find such a Class or perhaps know better search keywords than iTunes search filter Actionscript Flash Class.
I've been following the "Using the Tween Class Part II". I even looked at the "Applying and Animating Filter Effects". Both of them don't offer much insights to animating a filter effect without the use of rollovers.What I'm hoping to achieve is that the glow filter animates after the object it's attached to finishes its animation.So far, I've got the glow effect to show up. However, I can't get it to animate after the object's motion has finished. The following is how I have the codes set up:
Code:
import mx.transitions.Tween;
import mx.transitions.easing.*;

I looked at the following example in the AS3 Reference: [URL] It is unclear to me looking at the package example how to apply this in standard ActionScript 3 without packages to a Movie Clip resident in my Library that gets called at RunTime. how I would push the DropShadow filter onto my Movie Clip at RunTime?
View 6 RepliesTo achieve a zoom effect in our 2D flash game, we make the background of the game much bigger than the visible stage. This becomes a problem when the background is complex or when we apply a grayscale filter to the background. Is there a better way to do zoom? Or, is there a way to apply the filter to only a specific area of a movieclip?
View 2 RepliesIf I have a Document class that extends MovieClip, and I want to use it as the basis for another Document class, is it possible to create a subclass that extends the main document class and use that for a different FLA?
For example,
fla1.fla has a document class of MyMainClass:
public class MyMainClass extends MovieClip
fla2.fla has a document class of MySubClass:
public class MySubClass extends MyMainClass
I've tried, but now I'm getting errors that all of my variables that reference stage instances aren't being found.

I'm trying to create a class which will create a tween for several different instances of an object. I am creating the instances in the Document Class. The trick is, I would like to specify how long each tween will take.
Here's what I have so far:
DOCUMENT CLASS
ActionScript Code:
package {
import flash.display.MovieClip;
import mcCloud;
[Code].....
As you can see, I have a variable "myTime" which syncs the timer and the tween. This causes to tween to repeat and the clouds to continually scroll across the stage. How can I determine the var myTime at the time I create each instance of the Movie Clip mcCloud?
