ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash Nested MovieClip Not Swapping?

Hi. I'm teaching myself flash, and to that end I'm making a simple top-down shooting game. My (current) problem is this:

All of the basic enemies and allies are currently represented by a simple MovieClip consisting of a circle (the 'body', also used for hit detection) and a named Weapon instance. 'Weapon' is a class linked to another simple MovieClip. The Weapon class serves as an abstract base class for a variety of 'real' weapons (Rifle, Laser, etc), each of which has a matching ActionScript (3) file and MovieClip. All the weapon MovieClips are visually unique.

Ok, with me so far? Well, I want my little soldiers to be able to change weapon, so I've created a function "swapWeapon(newWeapon:Weapon)". This sets the soldier's Weapon instance to the 'newWeapon' variable. This is where it gets confusing: the functions and code of the new weapon (eg, bullet speed and accuracy) all transfer correctly, but the appearance remains the same (the default 'Weapon' MovieClip).

My guess would be it's to do with the fact that I'm swapping a MovieClip instance for different (sub-) class of MovieClip. But that's as far as my knowledge of flash takes me

Flash 8 - AS 2.0

Ok kiddies. I've been toying with AS and trig. and have a little wiggly worm that half-heartedly responds to the mouse just as I want. It's created by looping 30 times through a for loop and using attachmovie() like this.

attachMovie("mcCircle", "mcCircle" + i, i, {_x:mx[i], _y:my[i]});
}

As you can see for their depths I have used the increment of the for loop. So I have 30 clips with depths from 0 to 29. On the other hand, the graphics which have been statically placed on the stage have these depths.

What I need is to place the mcCircle clips underneath some of the objects on the stage. Imparticularly, the menu bar at the top of the stage and the logo at the bottom while staying on top of the background. I just want it to look like it's going behind these two graphics. I've tried a number of things and have ran out of ideas. By the way - the bottom of frame 27 of the actions layer has the code that is outputting the depths in the Output panel in Flash.

Flash - Preloader Giving Error When Adding Nested MovieClip

I have nested my animation into a movie clip and have tried to use a pre-loader on it. The nested movie clip opening screen as a button on and the second screen as back and forward buttons. The movie clip works fine no problem until adding it to the pre-loader. The code for the pre-loader is (below) on frame 1 frame 2 to is tells it to stop and also were my nested movie clip is

Flash - 2 Movieclips Not Playing Simultaneously Located On The Same Frame Nested Withing A Movieclip?

I have two movieclips on the same frame but on different layers located within the movieclip. The first movieclip plays just fine. However, the second one isn't going ahead even a single frame. The code that I have mentioned below is located withing the second movieclip containing background image. And I think this code is causing the issue because when I remove this it plays perfectly fine. The function of this code is to automatically re-size background image with the browser dimensions. The whole code just worked fine on the main timeline.However, when I shifted it inside a movieclip its causing an issue.

I am trying to create match the following pairs in flash where you drag an element upon its correct pair & drop it.Each element has its own unique coordinates at start. Now, here is what i m trying to do with left matching element( i haven't programmed right elements with same functionality yet), whenever one drag left matching element upon right element the "dragged "left element should change its position corresponding to right matching element(both should be at same Y coordinate) & the original left element should swap its position with dragged left element original position

I have an animated character swc that is an empty skeleton basically (has all the body parts, animations, and functions/vars). I want to essentially put different clothes on that character at runtime so I don't have to have many copies of this character in my resources.

For example, I have 'skeleton' (the non-clothed model) and 'Bob', 'Jane', and 'Mary' characters. 'skeleton' is animated and fully works as an exported swc, and to get the other characters in their clothes/skins, I open up Flash CS5 and replace the movie clips with the 'clothed' versions of the components. To clarify,'skeleton' has "body parts" as movie clips that are all animated on the timeline, such as "head","face","left arm","right arm", etc. I open up 'Bob', who has the same exact design as 'skeleton', with the exception that 'Bob' has all the clothes and such as differently-designed movie clips. The size, shape, orientation, and reg points are all the same across all the components. After I've replaced all the movie clips in 'skeleton', I export it as a swc named 'Bob.swc' and I do this for all the characters.

What I'm asking is, how can I do this process ^, but at runtime instead, so I don't have all these duplicate root swcs ('skeleton' has a lot of frames on it) so I can cut down on a bunch of space? So I can do something like:

I'm trying to build a styled, rounded button movieclip that I can reuse/resize. So inside a movieclip, I have two layers:

Layer 1: A border, which is a shape - a rounded rectangle (or actually the stroke of a rounded-rect).

Layer 2: A nested movieclip which contains a shape for the face of the button. I have added filters to this nested movieclip to give it a beveled-type look - typical rounded button stuff.

So, I've tried applying scale-9 to the parent movieclip: in this case the border scales fine, but the face (with the filters) does not. So, then I tried applying scale-9 to both the parent and the nested face movieclip,I want to be able have the button self contained as a clip which I can pull from the library, drop on the stage, and scale without distortion - and so far, as mentioned,I can't figure out how the get the nested face, the one with the filters applied, to scale appropriately.

I'm having a problem trying to get some nested movie clips to play. I have three movie clips on three different layers all on frame one of the parent layer. each layer has a labIe (well just call it "layer1", "layer2. "layer3") I have a stop command on the parent level (on its own layer). each of the three movie clips has its own animation (the nested animation). The lower two have a stop command in their first frame(nested) so they wont play. Only the top movieclip would play on run. I want to place a gotoandplay command in the nested timeline of the above movie, that will start to play the next lower movie clip nested timeline, as the above one is ending, and repeat this process to cylce back around to the top movieclip. The overall goal is to have one animation move into the other using nested timeline smoothly.

I created a stage size 960 by 640, than i create a movieclip exactly the same size as the stage, but when i double click to get into the movieclip everything get smaller an object with 960 by 640 has reduce to 184by 140??? How do I get it back to the original size?

I have a main swf that loads an external swf (WNC.swf). The external swf (WNC.swf) contains a scrollPane that loads another external swf (WNC_DATA.swf). I'm trying to target the WNC_DATA.swf from the main swf, so I can tell it to go to frame (2). If -- draggable -- moivieClip_A is created, and then moivieCLip_B is created as a child of movieClip_A, (when movieClip_A is dragged onPress, movieClip_B simultaneously moves with it), is it possible to change a property of movieClip_B with a mouse event? Seems as though movieClip_A's layer position / mouse events are blocking mouse events for movieClip_B.

This is probably a very simple solution, but I can't seem to find it online. Basically, I have a button that need to change a movieclip's frame in it's parent.So I tried:

_parent.slideshowImages.gotoAndStop(2);

But it's not working! I know I'm getting to the right locaiton because _parent holds a variable, and I can access that just fine. But I for some reason can't access the movieclip at all.

Note: I can't upgrade to AS3 (What I'm used to) as this isn't my file.

i have a movie clip and inside that MC i have a menu with some buttons(they are also MovieClips), my buttons(MC) inside the menu MC are animated by the mx.transitions tweens, all of that works fine.

then i want to put my menu with some transparency by default and restablish the _alpha to 100% when i rollOver the menu, when i do that the change with the _alpha propertie works fine but my buttons inside the MovieClip no longer works?

Im having a problem adding a child to a nested movieclip.the main movieclip is instanced when the user clicks on the create gallery button.the code then proceeds to create x movieclips(productFrames) with nested movieclips(imageFrame) with instance name:imageFrame1 & dynamic text frames(title & genus) & then add text to those frames & an image to one of the nested mcs

I am trying to design a menu system that pops up which I have just about managed. however nested in the menu movie clip are a number of other movie clips which I want to use as buttons but I am having problems getting the movie clips to load a swf once clicked. I tried putting a button in side the menu movie clip and it would not even recognize the mouse over which makes me think you can not nest buttons or movie clips in another movies clip?
