So, if I need to give a custom variable name to an object how would I do that?
For instance, if I have a gameID that is 12345 and its rating is 3 I want to save a variable called gameRatings_12345 thats value is 3 in my shared local object.
//share object protected var mySavedData:SharedObject = SharedObject.getLocal("mySavedData");
I have the game id in a string
var gameID:String = "12345";
Then when I try to assign the value like this...
mySavedData.data.gameRatings_gameID = 3
I think it's literally reading it as "mySavedData.data.gameRatings_gameID" instead of "mySavedData.data.gameRatings_12345"
how you would target a function's local variable through a concatenated variable string.For example:
var txt = "Hello World"; function testing(msg) { var test1 = msg;[code].........
I'd expect the trace to be "Hello World" but rather is given "undefined". So if variables created outside functions are created on the main timeline, where are local function variables created and how would you access them?
I'm trying to combine PHP/SQL and Flash. I've got a problem now. I want to load a variable that contains an url to an image. so the variable is like this: [URL] Now I want flash to load the image, not the text. The variable is called 'img1' but the loadmovie function doesn't work when I put it in.
hi I have created an actionscript function which stops an animation on a specific frame which works fine. I have then loaded in a php file with a variable which will contain the number for the frame i want the animation to stop on. This has loaded in fine and i have loaded it in a function. what i cant seem to do is to get the variable into the function which tells the animation to stop playing.[code]
I have an external log file which name changes each session, with the format XXXXX.log I need to load it inside a swf to show its data, but each time the log's name is different, I need to open the .fla, changing the name of the file and then republishing the swf. So I have made a simple script to load another .txt, to type manually in it the 5 number of the logs name and load it externally inside the swf:
I have a function in my flash AS3 file. I'd like to pass a parameter when calling this function and have that parameter become the name of a new FLV playback component I'm declaring;
function newVideo(myVideoName){ var [myVideoName]:FLVPlayback = new FLVPlayback(); }
I'm trying to pass a variable through a function, but I'm getting it's value 0. Here's my code:
thumbLoader.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, goToCategory); function goToCategory(e:MouseEvent) { trace(c);[code]....
this trace gives me value of 0. Normally I would do goToCategory(c) and inside that category I would get it's value, but in this case I'm calling this function with an event, how can that be done?
var c is declared globally, so I'm using it above this code in different place... is there smth like global $c like in PHP.. or there's some other way to do it?!
URL...An untyped variable is not the same as a variable of type Object. The key difference is that untyped variables can hold the special value undefined , while a variable of type Object cannot hold that value.[code]Why is assignment to undefined allowed for obj? (not a big issue since it still prints as null)If we compare null with undefined the result true (even if null stored in an Object). What is the point of making a difference between null and undefined if they are equal?
I want to monitor a variable. Whenever the variable value changes I want to call a function. In actionscript 2 I can use "watch" but in as3 what can do ?
I'm trying to return XML from an event complete back to the main function, but can't figure out how to do it.Here's the functions I'm calling:Main File:
public var mySendAndLoad:SendAndLoad = new SendAndLoad(); mySendAndLoad.sendData(url,variables) The mySendAndLoad class:
How can I combine the following functions and still pass a different string to the buildUI(); function?
I have two functions that do the same thing only at the end they both call a function and pass a String value to the function. This string value is the only thing different.
Below is are my eventlisteners and functions as they are now:
female_start.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, startFemale); male_start.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, startMale); //FUNCTIONS THAT DO THE SAME THING AND BOTH CALL buildUI BUT PASS A DIFFERENT STRING.
Basically I want Javascript to pass a variable to Flash according to resolution. I realize my syntax might be off, but something like:
HTML Code: <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript"> if (screen.width <= 800) { expand = "false";
[code]....
Trouble is, I'm not sure what to do from here. I don't know exactly what I need to put in the <param> and <embed> tags, and how Flash would detect if the variable was true or not.
I have a flash SWF that passes a variable as a parameter to a javascript function in my HTML page. Somehow I need to put that value of that parameter into a global variable I can use outside the html javascript function that actually receives it from the SWF function that passes it. Ultimately I will store that value in a hidden form field in the HTML so I can reuse it elsewhere.
Using an alert box, I can see my desired variable data is being passed by the AS2 function but I can't figure out a way to access it from outside the javascript function. Here's a screen print of the alert and what I see when I try to reference it outside the function. Here is a link to a screen pic that demonstrates that
This is a code snippet that starts with the javascript function that receives the variable. YES, I know the"mailLink = str" is not valid. It just demonstrates how off the mark I am.
Code: <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript"> var mailLink = null; function callJavascript(str) {
I have a set of Cue Points in an FLV I'm playing. It's an interactive quiz, so the idea is that flash will change a variable, theAnswer, to a different letter depending on which question it is. The answer to question 1 is B, question 2 is D, etc. Either the cue point event listener isn't working, or else it is working and Flash isn't declaring the variables. 1120: Access of undefined property theAnswer. I literally can't find a single problem with my code. I have an almost identical Event Listener further down which works.
I'm relatively new to Flash and ActionScript and have a problem with the following code I'm putting together:
Code: // creating a new testmclip object var testmclip = new testmclip(); // creating a new testmclip object /* create a new pop up menu - sending the testmclip as var and "test" as label */ popupmenu = new Menu ([path: testmclip, label: "test"]);
I'm trying to send a movieclip object created in one class, to a different class - for the latter class to add as it's child. The code was originally Kevin Hoyts Android Component for Menu and MenuItem [URL] ... but in that the path for the menuitem was a path which loaded from url or relative path --> this I can't do with flash...I think.
I'm attempting to make a platform game. Each level is contained within it's own MovieClip, which has it's own class. Each of these classes extend the Level class, which provides basic functionality for all levels.
Each individual level has a numPlatforms variable which stores the number of platforms in that particular level. I currently have a for loop that runs from 1-numPlatforms and sets the level area (the image, more or less) the platform contains:
[Code]....
Is there any way to check if a variable exists within a MoveClip? I've trying comparing it to null and also to undefined, but neither works.
How can I create an xml object (or any object in fact) named after a variable, i.e variable called section with value "names" create object [section value + "XML"] = new xml(); result: empty xml object called namesXML
I need to pass a variable to a function inside a function. However this parameter (i) seems not to be passed (to function ...onRollOver). This is required to attach a textfield to a movieclip (reading the adress and showing it as a tooltip).
ActionScript Code: for (i=0; i<array_BE_ElecCities.length; i++) { var attachElecCity = mc_map.mc_places.attachMovie("Plant",
