ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash Won't Display Wingdings Characters

Feb 27, 2011

Has anyone else run into this? I have all characters for Wingdings embedded (in Flash CS5) but the following code fails[code]...

When I set the font to "Wingdings" it displays nothing. Yes, like I said, Wingdings is embedded. I get the same results with Webdings, Wingdings 2 and 3. I don't have any problems for any other fonts I've tried with the same scenario.

I did some googling and found quite a few people having similar problems with Flash embedding wingdings. This is really frustrating. Is there really no way to get wingdings to display as dynamic text in Flash?

Professional :: Can't Show A Wingdings Star In Flash

Feb 9, 2010

I have a textbox where there should be a 1 to 5 star classification for a movie, so I used the star symbol (character code 0xAB) from the Wingdings Symbol Font. But instead of the stars, What I get is double angular quotes in Arial, the corresponding character in a normal text font: «

In fact, every Wingding character above 0x80 (included) is displayed in Arial instead of Wingdings. This also seems to happen with all Symbol fonts.

I've also made Wingdings into a font symbol but the problem still happens. It also happens in static text boxes.

To reproduce the error just make a text box and set the font to Wingdings. Now type something and it shows in Wingdings but press ALT+0171 (or copy the star from the Character Map app) and instead of a star, you get double angular quotes.

Professional :: Flash Cannot Produce Wingdings On Vista Machine?

Jan 17, 2011

Several months ago I created numerous flash files that use a wingdings checkmark. Recently I had to update these files, and now every single one of them displays as the Arial equivalent (umlauted u). It shows as the umlaut in FLA and in SWF. Selecting the unlauted u, looking at properties confirms the font is set to wingdings. Copying a wingdings checkmark out of another app and pasting into Flash, it immediately overwrites to the umlaut. In fact, changing it to any font just makes it a slightly different umlaut.

The easy question is, "What changed between when it worked, and when it doesn't?" and the answer is I'm not sure. It's the same Flash installation, same machine, same OS, etc. I've tested this with co-workers. Those who open the exact same file on XP machines see the checkmark. Those who open the exact same file on other Vista machines see the umlaut. I have an XP machine to my left, and a Vista machine to my right, and I'm seeing both a checkmark and an umlaut off the same FLA.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Fonts Will Not Embed - Characters Don't Display

Mar 24, 2010

I am trying to embed a font in my actionsrcipt and the characters don't display at all when the embedFont = true. If it is set to false it displays the characters. I really need this to work because I want to maintain consistency with the font used through out the site.

The problem is that its not a common device font. The TextField is set up in another class I created and the the text formating is applied when the for loop runs in the initialization of the class I'm working in. I've tried everything I can think of and it just will not embed the font and display it.

Currently, I'm looking deeper.. Let's say if I'm displaying the characters in different parts say Head, Body and Arms, etc.. How do I make sure when I randomize the characters, the correct part of each character is displayed correctly? Instead of characterOne's head appear with characterTwo's Body and characterThree's Arms for example.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Get A Flex Text Control To Display Cyrillic Characters?

Feb 22, 2009

Does anyone know what I need to do to get a flex text control to display cyrillic characters for example. [wvxvw? hebrew?] In addtion to the main .swf (.mxml) file there are font libraries loaded that are also in a seperate .swf The text control is subclassed from Flex.Text and in a seperated .AS file. Then to top it, the actual text in cyrillic is coming from an .xml file.I've tried "<?xml version="1.0" encoding='UTF-8' " in the main .mxml file and the xml file. I believe I've put Byte Order Marks (BOM's) for utf-8 in the .AS file and maybe some of the other files. I've compiled everything with specifying the utf-8 encoding as well. I get nothing where the characters are supposed to be.

There is an HTML file included with this form but I am not sure if I need to put that in as I have embedded this form into an SWF file so I don't think I need that code but let me know if I am wrong about this. Flash :: Display Objects Which Are Outside The Display Area When Is Embeded In HTML?

Nov 22, 2010

Is there any way to display flash objects which are outside the display area when flash is embeded in HTML
The reason i ask is my current project has a rotating + enlarging effect which is largely dynamic so sometimes an object may clip the edge of the stage areathis looks messy but i dont want to increase the stage area to cover  the largest possible area any object could enter because most of the time the objects are at the center and small so i would end up with a lot of white space

Flash - Sorting Display Objects By Their Display List Depth

Aug 5, 2011

I have a list containing display objects from throughout the application (insertion order). I want to process the list either top-down (parent, child) or bottom up (child, parent). The only requirement is that either a parent is processed before any child or vice versa a child before its parent. What is a good approach? This question is not about sorting a list. It's about retrieving the depth of a particular display object.

Example
Display list:
A (root)
B1
C1
C2
D1
B2
......

My list:
list = [E1, F4, A, B2, B1, C3, ..., N9, N8]

Bottom-up:
N9, N8, F4, E1, C3, B2, B1, A

Top-down:
A, B2, B1, C3, E1, F4, N9, N8
Does not matter if N9 before N8 or N8 before N9. Important is that any N is before M (first run) or any M before its children N* (second run).

Xml :: Flash Reading Only Certain Characters?

Apr 13, 2011

I have a dynamic textbox in flash called vt. It has attached to it the following in a class file:

vt.text = xml.video.@vt[cv];

and pulls the information from an XML File:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<playlist>
<video src='videos/video1.flv' vt='abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz'/>
</playlist>

Now for some reason only the letters a d g i l n o will actually display when tested with all the alphabet above.

UPDATE: Solved - Just needed to change the textbox AA to Use Device Fonts :) (New user cant answer my own question)
