ActionScript 3.0 :: Force Directed Layout For Flash?
Feb 28, 2009
I want to implement a force-directed layout in my Flash program. On my search for an already-made component I bumped into these:SpringGraph (Flex component)Flare (Flare has a force directed layout class, but also a Flex component)GraphGear (AS2 implementation of force directed layout)Graph.as (AS3 implementation, but not so smooth)All these classes are not directly implementable in Flash. I tried to get the latest Flare running in Flash by using the Flex SDK files as well as for Springgraph, but this seems like a too complex way to create a force directed layout. The GraphGear is quite nice and compact, but written in AS2. Graph.as is too experimental to directly implement.
I have a function that is made up of two main parts (I'll call them A and B). Part B needs to run when part A is fully done with its layout changes. However, there is no "part A is done" signal, and thus I've been calling a validateNow() before part B runs. This works but seems awfully inefficient - was wondering if there are any other tricks to force an immediate measure or something along those lines or if I'm stuck.
My problem is pretty simple: Flex containers do layout based on un-transformed children, and so rotated children are positioned as if there were no rotation, but then they're rotated around the top-left of that position. I've attached an image to show what I mean. Can I wrap the components in something? Or do I have to resort to custom components or fixed layouts? The image inlining doesn't look like it's working to me. Link to example image: [URL]
I'm trying to create a website that is basically a flash toolbar that directs the user to different HTML pages at the bottom, much like this website here.Could anyone point me in the right direction? Do I build the bar in Flash and then the HTML portion in dreamweaver or do I build it all in Flash? Would an iFrame work for this sort of website?
I want to make a directed graph. Is there any way i could attach an arrow to the line between two nodes ? I used moveto/lineto to draw the line between source node and destination node and i want an arrowhead to point in the right direction.
I have attached the following to a button: on (press) { gotoAndPlay(1); } or on (release) { gotoAndPlay(1); }
It is meant to take the user back to frame one where they can play a game again. The only problem is that it doesn't work. When you click the button it goes to the frame but quickly resets back to the frame where the button is located. I have put stop(); code where relevant. I am unsure on what to do. I just want the user to be able to go to different frames but the button keeps reseting to the frame where it is originally located.
how to make the preloader works on the full screen website/ fluid layout. I add the Stage.resize on the code for FYI When I added this code to the bar, it expanded to full screen, but there's no loading bar. The text is also no progress.
I have the following xml and would like to have it so that title1, title2, etc are each hyperlinked to a certain URL, so if the user clicked on title1 for example they would be directed to [url]....
I am having problems with the images being smooth.I have edited the code throughout with forceSmoothing = true and _quality = best.It all works and looks smooth if I test the file in the preview window and if I run the HTML file. But as soon as I put the file under IIS the smoothing stops.All my flash players are v10+ . I have turned the IIS compression off but no luck.
I have a swf movie, which involves some classes and libraries stuff. so now when i preload, flash will preload all those classes and MC with linkage 1st.
but i need flash to preload certain MC 1st, because i need it for my preloader's visual. Is there a way that i can force flash to preload the MC that i wanted 1st?
I have a weather widget that is flash and expandable. one of the issues i had is when I expand the widget, it wouldn't expand passed the flash container size, so most of the content is cut up. I increased the size of the flash container and that worked. The problem is that the I have another facebook widget that is below the weather widget and that got pushed a lot. I moved the facebook widget up with a negative margin and now they are aligned fine. BUT i can't interact with the facebook widget. and I think the reason is that it is actually behind the flash container. it works fine on ie but i am trying to get it to work on chrome. I have changed the z-index to make the facebook widget on top of the flash, but the flash started to appear behind the facebook now.[URL]...
I'm kind of new to flash and i just can't find a nice way to control the position of the elements that i add to a container movie clip.What i do is addChild to my target container Movie Clip and the controlthe x,y values of the child depending on the total width and total height of
I noticed that some of my flash movies didn't allow user to input the @ and characters in Firefox. Some did, and some didn't.
Just now I found myself once again struggling against that problem and I just figured out the combination that makes this happen.
When I make a movie with "wmode=transparent", running on Firefox, the keyboard layout is ignored and set to american (i suppose). I discovered this because when testing I tried replacing the "@" for "(at)" and the parenthesis were also out of place (on a portuguese layout, opening parenthesis is shift+8, and on an american layout it's shift+9 - the @ char on a portuguese layout is AltGR+2).
I've turned off the transparent background and it works fine, but in this case I can't get rid of it and placing a note saying "try shift instead of AltGR for the @" seems lame.
i want to have force download functionality only with Flash AS3, is it possible ?? i tried google but failed. here it is my as3 code......
var file_URLRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest ("mp3gallery/" + url); var content_header:URLRequestHeader = new URLRequestHeader("Content-Type: application/force-download");
I am sure this is an easy one but I can't figure it out: I have a movieclip (tester) that I am locating on the stage via the following code:
[Code]....
What I want to have happen is have it start in the defined location but when you drag the browser window open the "tester" movieclip scales up in size but stays centered on those cooridinates - basically as the window gets bigger I want it to stay in the same place but get bigger and be able to control ( by percentage) how big the movie clip grows as the window opens.
I'm trying to create a method of saving data to disk in Flash.
Uploading the data to a PHP server works... well enough I guess. The issue is that when I go to reload the data, the file has been cached, and so I can't load the saved changes.
Is there a way to force flash to reload a file? Or clear it's current cached version?
I have a Flash app that uploads an xml file using URLLoader() and URLRequest(). But this file gets overwritten every 10-30 minutes with fresh data. The only way I've found so far to view changes in the xml data is to refresh my web page (F5 or Ctrl-->F5). Short of turning to Javascript, isn't there some way for Flash to refresh its xml data?
I'm using a modal window on a client's site where we have no access to the content. The problem is that he has some flash on the page and the wmode for these is not set to transparent.
Is there a possibility to force their flash from our javascript to have this parameter added?
I'm trying to decipher a pre-existing project and make some modifications as I go.
I have a section of code that starts with creating a new NetConnection and then streaming a media file from an external source. I see in the documentation that you can provide a destination port (via the URL), but is it possible to force Flash to use a specific source port? I couldn't find a clear way to do this in the documentation, but I was curious if anyone else has an alternate method or idea.
Yesterday when playing a game (Balloons Tower Defense 3) I noticed that the game started to slow down over time and then randomly speed up very quickly. Looking at the memory usage dropping each time I assumed it was the GC running.
As a legitimate question, is there anyway to force Flash to GC from, say, Firefox? Perhaps there's an addon or a command you can run that will do this? I know that you can do System.gc() but this game isn't mine so I can't modify the source with a "Click here to GC" button.
I have a textInput box called systolicInput. To record the users blood pressure.When the user taps on the textInput the iOS virtual keyboard comes up. But it defaults to alphabetic input.How can I force it to display the numeric input keyboard? I am using ActionScript 3.
When the list item label is changed, the list doesn't redraw until I hover the mouse over changed item. I've tried invalidate & redraw but they didn't work:
//myList is an instance of mx.controls.List component myList.getItemAt(0).label = 'New Label'; myList.invalidate(); myList.redraw(false);
I am creating a web site using Flash CS3 actionscript 2.0.I know how to but the one extra thing I need to do for this site is create a button that anyone looking at the site can click and it automatically downloads a zip file containing music. (it's a site for a band who want their fans to be able to download their music.)A lot of the information I am finding pertains to PHP, which I don't understand. As I use action script 2.0, I am not familiar with much code.[code]but I most be doing something wrong b/c an error always comes up when I check the code.Also, I make a button, give it an instance name, but I don't enter that anywhere in the action script.so I know something has to be wrong, b/c the only thing I do is create a zip file, name it and enter it in the action script.
I am trying to figure out how I can implement the new Text Layout Framework 2.0 in Flash CS5. There are some Flex and FlashBuilder4 examples, but nothing relating to Flash CS5. How do I update my Flash CS5 to support TLF2.
I am particularly interested in creating new List/Bullets features so some example code for Flash would be great.
