I have a function that is made up of two main parts (I'll call them A and B). Part B needs to run when part A is fully done with its layout changes. However, there is no "part A is done" signal, and thus I've been calling a validateNow() before part B runs. This works but seems awfully inefficient - was wondering if there are any other tricks to force an immediate measure or something along those lines or if I'm stuck.
My problem is pretty simple: Flex containers do layout based on un-transformed children, and so rotated children are positioned as if there were no rotation, but then they're rotated around the top-left of that position. I've attached an image to show what I mean. Can I wrap the components in something? Or do I have to resort to custom components or fixed layouts? The image inlining doesn't look like it's working to me. Link to example image: [URL]
I want to implement a force-directed layout in my Flash program. On my search for an already-made component I bumped into these:SpringGraph (Flex component)Flare (Flare has a force directed layout class, but also a Flex component)GraphGear (AS2 implementation of force directed layout)Graph.as (AS3 implementation, but not so smooth)All these classes are not directly implementable in Flash. I tried to get the latest Flare running in Flash by using the Flex SDK files as well as for Springgraph, but this seems like a too complex way to create a force directed layout. The GraphGear is quite nice and compact, but written in AS2. Graph.as is too experimental to directly implement.
Is there a way to measure the average time it takes my code to run and each frame to render for my Flex app? More specifically, I know how to use getTimer() but I'm not sure about which events I should listen to in order to do this. I was reading this post and am not sure how you'd figure out how long the actual rendering took (it would seem like it may be the time between the RENDER event fires and the next ENTER_FRAME event fires, but I'm not sure). Also, not exactly sure where the user code happens, or whether I should care about EXIT_FRAME and FRAME_CONSTRUCTED. [code]...
The program croaks when measureContentArea (in package mx.containers.utilityClasses, file CanvasLayout.as ) loops through the target's children from 0 to target.numChildren. When the program errors: n == 1, i == 0, and target.numChildren is now 0, when it was 1 before the loop. target.numChildren has changed while the loop is running. It's as if a child was removed by some side effect of calls in the loop.
This happens even when I have many IOComponents on the screen: Here This baffles me because I don't see how I can debug it. I do add and remove and insert children in my game code, but unless ActionScript is threaded I don't see how my code can reach into a loop in CanvasLayout.as .
I'm using a List control. In the renderer of the List control I've got a Repeater. Each Repeater can have a different number of items. Adding to the complexity, one of the components being repeated in the repeater is a Text control that has long text that will wrap, increasing it's height. I need to expand the height of the List completely so that there's no vertical scrollbar. How can I do this?
I tried an extremely dirty attempt at calculating the Lists height based on the data source. From the data source I can figure out the number of repeater items and the number of items in each repeater in the List's renderer. But there's no way to compensate for the wrapping of the text in the Text control.
I have a textarea where I measure the textWidth and textHeight to make sure the user cannot enter more text than can fit in the text area. I also extended the textArea with a textHeightNow and textWidthNow that measure the textField's dimensions since they update w/out requiring validation. Now this works great for 90% of the embedded fonts I'm using but any fonts that have giant serifs are not measured properly, for instance look at the 'f's in this text area:You can see they get cut off on both sides because textWidth and textWidthNow both return an incorrect size not taking into account the massive serifs.
I have somehow managed to change the layout of my timeline in CS4 so that it shows the layer names, across the entire window. This means I cant see any of the frames, just the layer names. No matter how many times i reset the workspace or change it, it wont come back! If i hover the mouse over the edge I get the double ended arrow that should allow me to pull the side bar over to reveal the frames but it doesnt do anything!.
I'm working on creating flash games site and want to make the facebook application version of it. As the site width is bigger than canvas default width I'm trying to find the way to check if the site is loading inside facebook canvas and change the width accordingly.
how to make the preloader works on the full screen website/ fluid layout. I add the Stage.resize on the code for FYI When I added this code to the bar, it expanded to full screen, but there's no loading bar. The text is also no progress.
I want to know is there anyway to invisible title bar for a AS3 project? and how to force program to use fix resolution and change monitor resolution to what we want?
I'm learning layouts in Flex. I try to make the following layout. The red arrow means when enlarge the window, the red arrow widget will become large too. Can anyone implement this layout in Flex?
I need to develop a GUI for a self-service kiosk. The kiosk will take food orders (i.e pizza, burgers, salads) and provide the ability to pay using a credit card. Can anyone suggest the best GUI layout or approach? I want to make it intuitive and simple. I want to minimize the number of button clicks. If you can provide examples,
My flex application gets some parameters from URL when the application opens for the first time(ex: layout=<1,2,3,4> ). Based on layout(1,2,3,4) value I have to change the layout. However the problem is the application is already drawn(Layout is initialized) by the time the control reaches the point where it reads the values from the URL. I was wondering how can I redraw once I read the values from URL. Some thing like refresh.
My operation system is Window XP in Chinese. I'm running flex sdk > asdoc in command line. Asdoc picks up the system default language. How can I force it to be run in English language environment?
I have an app w/ a login screen. When the user hits "enter", the state changes to "login" & a child component is triggered to load (though the child stays invisible at the moment). The child contains many functions that the user needs upon logging in (ie their screenname & settings are retrieved from a database). The following is included in 'Parent':
My problem is when a user logs out (state changes to 'Default') & then logs back in (state changes back to 'login') the child doesn't get "triggered" again & the functions w/in the child don't reload. Is there a way to force my child to refresh?
Note: While it would be easier to just move the child's functions to the parent it is complex...I moved these functions to the child to make it easier to follow
UPDATE: I even tried adding an "exitState" to my state:
This doesn't work either, as I get an error: "RangeError: Index 0 is out of range."
UPDATE: Even though you are allowed to call a child's function from a parent, my problem is that the child needs to be "created" in order to not show errors. It makes no sense to me why the flex team would make something like removing & adding children so complicated.
I'm using an iFrame in a Flex 3 project. The problem is that if the user opens my site in a small browser window, they don't get scrollbars. How can I solve this problem? Is there a way to force the browser to put up scrollbars?
If I set the main app to horizontalScrollPolicy="on" verticalScrollPolicy="on" or to "auto", then as you scroll down, the iFrame is stuck to the top of the browser window and obscures the content.
I was modifying the layout of a Flex application in Flex Builder. What I didn't realize was that the changes I made, were made for a particular state. There are around 6-7 states in my application. Now, I need those changes to be made to all of those states. How do I do it? As of now there are multiple lines like this in one state :
I have a randomly-sized array of items. I'd like to display one label for each item in a Repeater component. I want them to display in a grid layout with 5 columns and as many rows as needed. How do I do that in Flex / ActionScript?
I have an mx:vbox and inside i have several mx:text elements.how do i decrease the gap between each line of text that is shown ?i tried doing the following:
I have two panels and a button nested within an hbox. I want the panels to appear side-by-side and the button to appear under both panels equi-distant from the sides of the hbox (i.e. in the center).Getting the panels side-by-side was easy, but how do I get the button below both panels and in the center. Currently, the button show up to the right of the second panel.
In HTML/CSS, if you float items, DIV's that exceed the width of the container are moved down 1 line.
I would like to achieve this in FLEX. I have 3 components with variable width. I would like for the 3rd component to be moved down when it doesnt fit the container any more.
I'm trying to hide both the vertical and horizontal axis renderers in flex so I can take a picture of the chart without them.I've set both renders to visible = false and includeInLayout = false. They don't show up but they still take space. I've tried setting widths/heights to 0 and that doesn't help either.
I have a list with tile layout,I have given the item renderer's width as 100%, but the item dosen't resize to fit the content . The same scenario works well for horizontal and vertical layout.
Does anyone know of a simple way to implement a DividedBox layout similar to flex, but done through Flash/as3 ?
I would think there would be a library out there for that already, or some resources, but I'm having a hard time googling for it, as it;s either Flex or unrelated content I keep finding.
EDIT just came across yahoo's astra library (example)
