Flash :: Force The List To Redraw In Case?
Dec 27, 2011
When the list item label is changed, the list doesn't redraw until I hover the mouse over changed item. I've tried invalidate & redraw but they didn't work:
//myList is an instance of mx.controls.List component
myList.getItemAt(0).label = 'New Label';
myList.invalidate();
myList.redraw(false);
How to force the list to redraw in this case?

I have an app w/ a login screen. When the user hits "enter", the state changes to "login" & a child component is triggered to load (though the child stays invisible at the moment). The child contains many functions that the user needs upon logging in (ie their screenname & settings are retrieved from a database). The following is included in 'Parent':
<local:comp id="localComp" includeIn="login" includeInLayout="false" visible="false"/>
<mx:Button label="login" click="currentState='login'"/>
<mx:Button label="logout" click="currentState='Default'"/>
My problem is when a user logs out (state changes to 'Default') & then logs back in (state changes back to 'login') the child doesn't get "triggered" again & the functions w/in the child don't reload. Is there a way to force my child to refresh?
Note: While it would be easier to just move the child's functions to the parent it is complex...I moved these functions to the child to make it easier to follow
UPDATE: I even tried adding an "exitState" to my state:
<s:State name="login" exitState="removeElement(localComp)" />
This doesn't work either, as I get an error: "RangeError: Index 0 is out of range."
UPDATE: Even though you are allowed to call a child's function from a parent, my problem is that the child needs to be "created" in order to not show errors. It makes no sense to me why the flex team would make something like removing & adding children so complicated.

Suppose I have a component and want to change it's focus color at runtime. Here's an example for you (I've excluded any buttons and such to prevent component from losing it's focus, cause in that case it changes it's color perfectly):
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
creationComplete="init()">
<mx:Script>
private function init():void {
[Code].....
What do I want: How to make this focus to be redrawn without magic (I've tried all the methods, starting with "validate", I've tried calling updateDisplayList() on entire application, I've tried to call styleChanged .

I have a tree control with a custom item renderer. The item renderer has different states that should be set while an item is being dragged over the item renderer. I understand from reading this post [URL] that the 'right way' to do this is to override the 'getCurrentState' method and append some text. I do that.
Now in my tree control I handle the drag over event and get a reference to the itemrenderer that is being dragged over and I set the boolean 'dragOver' property to true. Now I just need to force my itemRenderer to redraw. I can't figure that out. A workaround, is to just set the currentState of the itemRenderer.
how can I force my itemRenderer to refresh? (and I've tried calling validateNow, invalideDisplayList/Properties/Size, to no avail)

I'm creating a facebook application in flex. I'm actually working on the friends component that shows your friends who are using the application. now, each friend has a profile image.
I created the component using a s:List element.
In the Skin Class of the element i configured the requestedColumnCount to 3, which means it shows 3 friends. i added buttons to scroll left and right in the list.
Whenever I scroll to see a different friend, for a half of a second i see no image because the List component is loading the image in order to view it.
is there a way to make the list preload all the elements so i won't have this kind of problem ?

I am just starting to learn flash/actionscript 3 and decided to code up a simple particle simulator.The very initial design simply involves filling the screen with a buncha particles which scatter away from the cursor if you were to click.This works, but is a bit unresponsive. I am using graphics.drawCircle() to draw the particles, and each particle is inherited from Sprite.
Listener for mouseclick event:
private function mouseClick(e:MouseEvent):void
{
trace("click");
var now:Date = new Date();
trace("Before: "+now.getTime());
[code]....
How should I make this more efficient? I plan on doing collision detection and other physics interactions later, and this is already a bit slow even without the hefty number crunching code I intend to add later.

I have an flash swf on a page loaded with object/embed tags.

I need to be able to start/stop or reload this swf with purely javascript as I don't have access to the source swf file to add any actionscript.I figured the easiest way to pull this off is by removing the element and replacing it forcing a redraw with would hince reload the swf movie. Though ie seams to cache the flash element and pretty much look over any updates I make to the embed/object tags and keeps right on going.So how do I force IE to redraw/update a flash element on a page?

I'm trying to capture the redraw event for some MovieClip / Sprite objects that are in a Scroll area.Ideally, should be able to capture the event when Flash Player itself redraws the objects as can be seen with "Show Redraw Regions" in FP Debug.I've tried to use the Event.RENDER to capture this, but it even fires when the object is not visible / redrawn.

I have a draggable popup window that has a title bar and an iframe in its content area. The iframe has a flash object embedded in it. It works great in all browser except for IE8 (IE7 and IE9 work fine). IE8 has a bad drawing problem when the window is being moved. Here's an example:Open the example in IE8, or if you're using IE9, hit F12 for developer tools, then select Browser Mode: IE8 using IE8 Standards.Drag the window around quickly and you'll see a very bad redraw of the iframe.

I am working on an older Flash project created in CS3 ActionScript 2.0 How can I make the pointer cursor change to the hand when hover over a list item?_root.slidePanel.myList'myList' is the list. I have traced out the contents of the List MC and it has a child MC called 'content_mc'. in flash/actionscript you can provide flashvars to the movie.
in actionscript you can access them like this:
var paramObj:Object = LoaderInfo(this.root.loaderInfo).parameters;
then i can check a parameter like this:
if (paramObj["somekey"] == someValue)
{
}
now i want to make this check case-insensitive. so that it matches SomeKey or soMekEY, etc.

I am building a scene which consists of 1 main mc containing all the elements in the scene. Inside this mc some of the layers are pushed back in Z space to create a parallax effect and on the main timeline the scene mc scrolls in relation to
the mouse position (much like this ) the scene mc is 5953px by 1716px and all the mcs contained inside consist of line drawn vector illustrations imported from illustrator. My problem is that when the scene is scrolling, every so often there is a delay were the scrolling slows down. It eventually catches up with itself causing it to jerk back to its original speed. When I test the movie and turn on redraw regions I notice that flash is having trouble redrawing some of the mcs.
I have tried optimising my mcs, turning cache as bitmap on the static ones and even replacing some of the static ones with bitmap versions but none of these seem to solve the problem. I was wondering if there is a solution to this or any other steps I can take to ease up on the redraw Also I am having a problem with the mcs breaking up as the scene scrolls, is there a way I can easily apply an anti alias to them?

I get a Flex 3 sandbox error #2048 after connecting to a Socket on a Java (1.5) server. The server code is all mine, i.e. not running under Apache. Flash Player 10.0 r32.The sequence is as follows...
1 Java server starts, listens on port 843 for policy file request and on port 45455 for my other requests.
2 Flex client served by Apache (although I get the same result if I run it from the file system), socket connection made on host:45455.
3 Flash Player requests policy file from port 843. This is the standard behaviour with the new security settings looking for a master file. It happens regardless of whether a different policy file has been specified.
4 I serve the following XML from Java through port 843:

<cross-domain-policy>
<site-control permitted-cross-domain-policies="all"/>
<allow-access-from domain="*" to-ports="*" secure="false"/>
</cross-domain-policy>
5 The player writes the following into the debug policy log...
OK: Root-level SWF loaded: http://localhost/bst/BasicSocketTest.swf
OK: Searching for <allow-access-from> in policy files to authorize data loading from resource at xmlsocket://192.168.2.3:45455 by requestor from http://localhost/bst/BasicSocketTest.swf
OK: Policy file accepted: xmlsocket://192.168.2.3:843
OK: Request for resource at xmlsocket://192.168.2.3:45455 by requestor from http://localhost/bst/BasicSocketTest.swf is permitted due to policy file at xmlsocket://192.168.2.3:843
6 I send a text message from the client to the server on port 45455 using writeUTFBytes() and flush() (this is my own home-baked message protocol, and is correctly processed at each end)
REG/REGISTER;simon;Si
7 Java server thread listening on port 45455 responds with
REG:0/REGISTER:SUCCESS;simon;Si
8 The Flex client receives a ProgressEvent and the event listener I bound to the socket gets called. I process the message (write it to a text box on the screen)
9 The Flash player throws a 2048 sandbox error and the socket is disconnected! This is after the message is received and processed successfully. In fact it is about 12 seconds after. Nothing else works through the socket.
I have tried explicitly loading a policy file with a call to Security.loadPolicyFile() in the Flex client, but the reality of the new player security is that it is basically ignored. The steps are that the policy request will not get sent until a socket i/o operation occurs. At that point the player always goes to port 843 first looking for a master policy file. If it finds one, and it is permissive, it goes no further.
I have tried a variety of alternative ways of terminating the policy file and policy file contents, including deliberate errors just to see if the Flash Player is awake.I can see no reason why I would have a 2048 being thrown. I accurately serve a socket policy file on the designated master security port, which the player itself logs as correct. The socket then successfully sends and receives a message from the server the contents of which are available to my code.
P.S. Please don't tell me to use BlazeDS or LCDS or Granite, or something else as a server, I'm looking for a solution to this problem, not a redesign. And please don't ask me to use an XMLSocket instead - I tried that and get exactly the same result. I have chosen my architecture carefully and deliberately and I want a binary socket.
EDIT :In response to James Ward's request in his comment, here is the entire error message:
Error #2048: Security sandbox violation: http://localhost/bst/BasicSocketTest.swf cannot load data from 192.168.2.3:45455.
I have a stripped down test client which has a handler for each socket event and outputs a message to the screen. This is what it shows:
RequestPolicy: 192.168.2.3:843
Create Socket: 192.168.2.3:45455
Connect: [Event type="connect" bubbles=false cancelable=false eventPhase=2]
Sending: REG/REGISTER;simon.palmer@gmail.com;Si
Receiving: REG:0/REGISTER:SUCCESS;simon.palmer@gmail.com;Si/
Close: [Event type="close" bubbles=false cancelable=false eventPhase=2]
Error #2048: Security sandbox violation: http://localhost/bst/BasicSocketTest.swf cannot load data from 192.168.2.3:45455.
The close event is fired immediately after successfully receiving a response from the server, however the Error #2048 does not appear until about 20 seconds later. If I try and send a further message after close, but before the error, the Flash Player throws an invalid socket exception.

sometimes Flash Authoring colors my actionscript inappropriately. for example: i have custom variable that i've named "closeButton". closeButton does not reference any of the official classes yet it always colored blue as an identifier. i'm assuming it's referencing some internal, private variable from some class in the frameworks. is it possible to remove the color for specific identifiers?

I keep getting this message from Flash: "Scene 1, Layer 'A', Frame 1, Line 411136: Incorrect number of arguments. Expected 1." and for the life of me, I can't understand why. I simplified the name and number of the buttons called but otherwise the code is intact. Flash is flagging all of the functions within the switch/case function, telling me that an argument is expected there. Why? I've tried the switch/case functionality with other requests (e.g., trace), but I cannot make it run a function.

My question is: how do I redraw a shape using only code? Short comment on the task itself. I've an eventListener, which grabs clicks on stage and stage resizes. Both execute the same function - redrawEvents(evt:Event). The stage contains a number of blocks, which represent certain events. On each redraw these blocks are repositioned, and also lines (which represent connections between events) are drawn.
Any way to reposition all the blocks, but I got stuck on redrawing lines. I'm using a single shape to hold all the lines, because lines, unlike blocks, are not interactive. Since the whole point of the application is creating sets of interconnected events, I have to modify this shape every time a new block is created, which also calls redraw function. Here's the code I use to modify the shape
stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,redrawEvents);
function redrawEvents (evt:Event) {
var lines:Shape = new Shape();
lines.graphics.lineStyle(2, 0xFFFFFF, .75);
lines.graphics.clear();
for (var k:int = 0; k < connections.length; k++){
lines.graphics.moveTo(eventList[connections[k][0]].x + 50, eventList[connections[k][0]].y + 50);
lines.graphics.lineTo(eventList[connections[k][1]].x + 50, eventList[connections[k][1]].y + 50);
} addChild(lines); }
However, whenever the shape is modified, it still leaves the 'older versions' of itself on screen, and i don't want that. I tried to create and delete instances, various type conversions.
