is it possible to have a back up image if the flash doesnt load?

so I have a pretty big flash file on my homepage, which raises a few issues about what to do if the user doesn't have flash player installed on his/her PC.
I would like to make sure that if the user has a old version of flash player, or doesn't have it at all, a backup image will display in place of the flash, how can I accomplish that?
Iss Javascript or jquery an option?

Once in a while it doesn't load the first time through on certain machines. Because of this the client has asked me to add a button to the site much like here...

The only problem with this is I need this button to "hide" once the site DOES load.
I have an application that I'm migrating from flex 3 to flex 4.5. In this application, there is some mx Image components that load a simple swf file (image). Spark image doesn't load swf files, so I was wondering, should I keep the mx Image, or should I change it to SWFLoader? Is there any advantages to using one or the other?

When i test the movie the background image is loaded, but when i simulate the download ( so as to check how the preloader works ) the image "NightSky.jpg" doesn't load and there is an error in the output panel.
This is the error:
Error #2044: Unhandled IOErrorEvent:. text=Error #2036: Load Never Completed.
All the files and the image are in the same file on my computer.

I have created a main file,which has a navigation with buttons.Each button loads an external swf file.In one of the external swf files I have created an xml gallery.I have created some empty movieClips which work as holders and they load the images.It works great when I publish it,although it doesn't work when I publish the main file.It just doesn't load the images.

This works fine for some of the images (the INIT and COMPLETE events are fired as expected), for some other it doesn't. I've read in this thread that a URLLoader might help, so I tried that, using the loadBytes() function afterwards. Still doesn't work: the URLLoader fires the COMPLETE event, but the LoaderInfo object does not.I've written a sample class that demonstrates the problem with two files (one working, the other one not).

View 1 RepliesI'm using Flash CS5 on Windows 7. I was working on a file and went to save (CTRL+S) and the Save dialog locked up and Windows gave me an error that said "Flash has stopped working. Close Program" So I did and restarted Flash. When I tried to open the file I was working on, Flash said "Unexpected File Format" The file size of the SWF is right, it's not 0kb or anything. This is about 3 weeks worth of work on here. I'm checking the backup tape for our company server, but that will still set me back about half a day (which is better than nothing I suppose)

I'm using an extrnal .xml and .css files for the content. I'm also embedding the fonts dynamicly. If I test the file locally on my computer is works fine the image loads as it's supposed to and content looks correct. However when I post the files to the server (which work exactly the same way) I get the white box when you can see from the link above. I'm at a complete loss as to how to to fix this.

View 1 RepliesI wrote a program in C# that, when a user press a button, opens a new form containing an embedded flash object. The flash application needs the user to be logged in, so i added to the source something like
swf.SetVariable("__ses", sid);
This works fine for 2 user testing the application, while the third one can succesfully open one table, while all the others appear "black", just like if the loader can't get past the loading step.
I am making a web app that uses MediaElement.js (ME.js) for playing audio and displaying video across different browsers. However, I am having trouble with IE8: When I instantiate the MediaElement with an <audio>element from the DOM, the flash object gets created and inserted in DOM but then the media does not get loaded. No errors are reported. Instead nothing happens.
Trying to debug it, I have created a small test page which also uses ME.js that tries to play the same audio file. Strangely, this page works fine. IE8 loads and plays the file. I have tried to look at what both of these pages output in the DOM to see if I could get a hint about what is going wrong.

Notice there's a difference: In the first snippet it says <PARAM NAME="Play" VALUE="-1">and in the second it says <PARAM NAME="Play" VALUE="0">. This seems significant somehow, but I have no idea how to interpret it. not that this is not the markup generate by ME.js but something that somehow gets generated when the .swf file has loaded. Not being any kind of a flash expert, I can't really explain how.
When I use Fiddler to monitor which assets get loaded, the difference between the two pages are that the first page loads the .swf file as the last thing and the second loads the .swf file and then loads the .mp3.
I should mention that the web app works in Chrome when I force it to use the flash plugin instead of native HTML elements.
So I'm guessing this is a security issue with Flash player 10, but I don't know how to get around it.
The swf works perfectly when I'm testing from within the IDE, but when I try to run the published one it gives me errors.

[URL]This swf object load an external xml file (generated by php script which doesn't locate on the same machine) and then display the product list (thumbnail and title). The script was tested working fine on my local machine, but when updating to the hosting, the images don't resize. At the first i thought that it's hosting performance issue, so i migrated it to amazon s3, but it still doesn't work.

The menu however doesn't appear over a flash.i put <param value="transparent" name="wmode"/> I added wmode="transparent" to the EMBED tag then the expanded menu appeared but the color of flash image diaappeared also tried z-index in css.

I have a basic site for an old age home. Recently I decided to put a Flash Movie on the Homepage but even though all files are loaded and links correct it won't show in either IE or Firefox...

I have a typical logo on the right top corner and a menu bar just above it. Above the menu bar, I have a UIloader in which I load photoalbum.swf when one of the menu buttons is pressed. The problem is that setting the scaleContent property to true doesn't load my external swf.Setting it to false, everything appears as expected, except that the bottom part of my photo album is cut since the scaleContent property set to false (this makes the loaded swf file's size the same as the stage's and as the UIloader begins just above the menu, the bottom part gets cut off).

I have Background layer, Bkg_Image layer & Video layer. I have embeded the flv movie on Video layer. Though on stage it shows all the layers, but when I test the movie it shows only Background layer & Video layer. I can't see the Bkg_Image layer.
The Actions layer has external swf loading AS3 which is working fine. Only the problem with Bkg_Image layer which is imprortant for me.

I have an image that doesn't fill the <mx:Image> tag because it's not the exact dimensions (it is too short) and I have maintainAspectRatio set to true:

The <mx:Image> tag has a fixed width and height (it's 100% of the tile size--this is in an ItemRenderer). How do I get the image to sit on the bottom of the <mx:Image> tag?
The problem I have is simple: the play and load functions doesn't work in flash CS4 as defined in the documentation: URL...So to speak, I can only define like this: URL...My flash player version on all 3 fla files that I use is set to 10.And now with the GREAT issue I can't set startTime for the video and this is just GREAT.

This may or may not be related to my other post ("Need to worry about thread-safety?"), but I'm not sure, so I'm putting this in a separate thread.I have a setup in my my flash app to load an arbitrary number of different sounds, but with an limit on the number of sounds being loaded simultaneously. It works like this (psuedocode):

EDIT: In other words, it starts loading up to the first, say, 5 sounds, and then after each one finishes loading, it starts loading the next sound in the queue.It works fine on everything except IE. And it will work on IE as long as the files aren't cached. But if they are cached, then in IE (and only in IE) the flash app will hang and produce a trace like this:

And after roughy 50 of those "start callback"s the flash app hangs and it never gets to any "end callback" or "c".It seems that loadSound is deciding to call onLoad synchronously, instead of asynchronously as would normally be expected. But this never seems to happen in anything but IE, even when the given browser has it all cached. So apparently it's either calling onLoad the wrong way in IE, or flash events like onLoad are susceptible to race conditions and need to be written accordingly.
I have an image on the stage which is bigger than the stage itself:
The stage is 700x550
The image is 2100x1650, and it's registration point is at its center, if I remember correctly.The initial location of the image on the stage is 350,75.I want to make sure that the user will be able to drag the image, as long as the edges of the image doesn't show.here's what I did:

The the top and the left of the image are bounded well, but as far as the bottom and the right side of the image.
I am trying to make a image slideshow for my companies new website. I used the Flash Image Viewer plugin from Dreamweaver, but it doesn't contain the transitional effect desired.
Every tutorial I find talks about advancing the images through an interactive control, I just want the images to change by themselves and do a fade transitional effect between images. Can anyone please point me to a tutorial that has this w/o the intractive buttons? I have been looking on the internet for hours and can only find tutorials / example w/ the intractve controls.
I'm using Agile Uploader in my project to resize image before upload on client side.And it works fine except one thing: if image name contains cyrillic letters it fails with server error 500.
How to avoid this or if needed how to rename file with english letters "on fly" (possibly with javascript).
