Flash :: MediaElement.js Doesn't Load Media In IE8
Dec 7, 2011
I am making a web app that uses MediaElement.js (ME.js) for playing audio and displaying video across different browsers. However, I am having trouble with IE8: When I instantiate the MediaElement with an <audio>element from the DOM, the flash object gets created and inserted in DOM but then the media does not get loaded. No errors are reported. Instead nothing happens.
Trying to debug it, I have created a small test page which also uses ME.js that tries to play the same audio file. Strangely, this page works fine. IE8 loads and plays the file. I have tried to look at what both of these pages output in the DOM to see if I could get a hint about what is going wrong.
[Code]....
Notice there's a difference: In the first snippet it says <PARAM NAME="Play" VALUE="-1">and in the second it says <PARAM NAME="Play" VALUE="0">. This seems significant somehow, but I have no idea how to interpret it. not that this is not the markup generate by ME.js but something that somehow gets generated when the .swf file has loaded. Not being any kind of a flash expert, I can't really explain how.
When I use Fiddler to monitor which assets get loaded, the difference between the two pages are that the first page loads the .swf file as the last thing and the second loads the .swf file and then loads the .mp3.
I should mention that the web app works in Chrome when I force it to use the flash plugin instead of native HTML elements.

If I just call MediaElement and not MediaElementPlayer, can I still skin both the HTML and Flash players using only CSS? Or do I have to modify the actual FLA?

I'm trying to add mediaelement.js to my site to present a single player for any MP3 link on a particular page. The design is working fine for IE 9 and Chrome 11 (which have HTML5 MP3 support), but it has an issue with the flash fallback on Opera 11 and FireFox 4. Clicking any MP3 link on the page uses the .setSrc() method of media element player to change the source of the player, but in Opera and FF, the first time this method is called, it returns error "this.media.setSrc is not a function". Any call to the function after that works fine.
Another issue is after the element containing the player is hidden "display:none" and then displayed again, calling the .pause() function will produce error "this.pluginApi.pauseMedia is not a function". After that error is thrown, subsequent calls work fine until the element is hidden and displayed again.

I have set the features to be empty which works fine except in the flash player. It still shows the big play button.I realise I can manually hide this but I'd rather find the proper solution
$('video').mediaelementplayer({

I have a video player on my site that once paused I would like to prevent rest of the video being downloaded. I am using MediaElement.js for html5 video with flash fallback. It is annoying that I am unable to stop the video from downloading as it is a waste of bandwidth and the "progress" event continues to fire and update the UI.

I'm currently having an issue with FMS4 developer edition on both Linux (x64) and Windows XP (x86). When I stream a webcam using ns. publish ("foobar", "live") I can watch the live stream on another client, however when i use ns.publish("foobar", "record"); neither broadcasting nor recording works. Using the "live" parameter the client appears in the log files and in the administration console as "publishing", using "record" the client appears as "idle". [code]
-Is there anything I need to configure besides LIVE_DIR in fms.ini?
-Is this a restriction in the developer edition?
-Is there something else I'm missing?

We purchased FMIS and we are encoding large 15+ hour MP4 recordings using flash media encoder. When opening these large files for playback, which have not been opened recently the player displays the loading indicator for up to 4 minutes! Once it has apparently been cached on the server it opens immediately from any browser even after clearing local browser cache. So a few questions for the experts
1. Why is it taking so long to load the file. Is it because the MP4 metadata is in the wrong format and the file is so huge? I read somewhere that Media Encoder records with incorrect MP4 metadata is that still the case?
2. Once its cached on the server, exactly how much of it is cached. Some of these files are larger than 500mb.
3. What fms settings do you suggest I change. FMIS is running on windows server R2 64 bit, but FMIS itself is 32 bit. We have not upgraded to the 64 bit version. We have 8GB of ram. Is it OK to set FMS cache to 3GB. And would that only have enough room for 3-4 large files, because we have hundreds of them.

I got serious issue while using adobe flash media server (I have media server streaming license). It doesn't allow flash clients to make stream's screenshot (with BitmapData.draw) because this is restricted from server side by default. I found that this trouble can be resolved my updating main.asc file but it seems like replacing main.far with mine main.asc causing error. Could you please help me with resolving this issue because it's extremely important to allow this screens making for user.I used CentOS 5.3 and FMS 4.0.1 r2009 (instaled in /opt/adobe/fms include Apache 2.2). All video is stored in a directory /opt/adobe/fms/applications/vod/media and I put the main.asc file in the directory /opt/adobe/fms/applications/vod/ from the directory /opt/adobe/fms/samples/applications/vod.

I wrote a program in C# that, when a user press a button, opens a new form containing an embedded flash object. The flash application needs the user to be logged in, so i added to the source something like
swf.SetVariable("__ses", sid);
This works fine for 2 user testing the application, while the third one can succesfully open one table, while all the others appear "black", just like if the loader can't get past the loading step.

So I'm guessing this is a security issue with Flash player 10, but I don't know how to get around it.
The swf works perfectly when I'm testing from within the IDE, but when I try to run the published one it gives me errors.
No such file/directory: [URL]
When in fact it does exist(the published swf is in "Posada"):
[URL]
So, I tried putting a crossdomain.xml in the same directory as the swf:
Code:
<xml version="1.0">
<cross-domain-policy>
<allow-access-from domain="*"></allow-access-from>
</cross-domain-policy>

I am attempting to retrieve metadata from a URLResource. The URLResource is not controlled by me, but passed into a function that I am using. The URLResource is created like this:
var resource:URLResource = new URLResource("[URL]");
// Add Metadata for the URLResource
var VideoParams:Object = {
Name:"Logo Video",
Owner:"Self",
[Code] .....
Now the URLResource contains the metadata. I will receive a MediaElement resource. How do I extract the metadata back? Here's what the debugger shows (media is a MediaElement object containing the URLResource w/ metadata) :
fdb>print media.resource.
$1 = [Object 246396705, class='org.osmf.media::URLResource']
_mediaType = null
_metadata = [Object 416970209, class='flash.utils::Dictionary']
[Code] .....
I've attempted extracting the metadata object with:
media.resource.getMetadata("VideoParams");
And a host of other attempts, but can't figure out how to get at that darned metadata.

I have a basic site for an old age home. Recently I decided to put a Flash Movie on the Homepage but even though all files are loaded and links correct it won't show in either IE or Firefox...
The movie should be loading here (...bellvilleseniorsentrum.com/engels/home.html)
There is a white space where the movie should be loading... But it doesn't...
I've done lots of sites with the same kind of movies and they all work fine... But this ons just doesn't work. It views fine when I test it on my computer but as soon as I load it - nothing...

I have a typical logo on the right top corner and a menu bar just above it. Above the menu bar, I have a UIloader in which I load photoalbum.swf when one of the menu buttons is pressed. The problem is that setting the scaleContent property to true doesn't load my external swf.Setting it to false, everything appears as expected, except that the bottom part of my photo album is cut since the scaleContent property set to false (this makes the loaded swf file's size the same as the stage's and as the UIloader begins just above the menu, the bottom part gets cut off).

I'm having a weird situation that only seems to occur in IE. This may or may not be related to my other post ("Need to worry about thread-safety?"), but I'm not sure, so I'm putting this in a separate thread.I have a setup in my my flash app to load an arbitrary number of different sounds, but with an limit on the number of sounds being loaded simultaneously. It works like this (psuedocode):
Code:
arrayOfURLs = ["a.mp3", "b.mp3", "c.mp3", ...etc...];
arrayOfSounds = [];
nextToLoad = 0;
[code]....
EDIT: In other words, it starts loading up to the first, say, 5 sounds, and then after each one finishes loading, it starts loading the next sound in the queue.It works fine on everything except IE. And it will work on IE as long as the files aren't cached. But if they are cached, then in IE (and only in IE) the flash app will hang and produce a trace like this:
a
b
start callback
start callback
[code]....
And after roughy 50 of those "start callback"s the flash app hangs and it never gets to any "end callback" or "c".It seems that loadSound is deciding to call onLoad synchronously, instead of asynchronously as would normally be expected. But this never seems to happen in anything but IE, even when the given browser has it all cached. So apparently it's either calling onLoad the wrong way in IE, or flash events like onLoad are susceptible to race conditions and need to be written accordingly.

G'day chaps, me and my mates have purchased a copy of Flash Media Server 4 Enterprise edition for use on our web project. Since we will be transmitting to large amounts of users through this exceptional piece of software, we will be needing to run more than one server at once. Before going ahead and doing anything against the policies we have decided to post here on the support forums and inquire about being able to run multiple copies of Flash Media Server 4 Enterprise edition with one Serial KEY ( 10 x GigE dedicated servers ). If this is not possible, how can me and my chappies load balance all the traffic through one Flash Media Server 4 Enterprise edition.

I try to do live stream by FMS 4.5.1 and FMLE 3.2 (H.264&MP3 encoding) It's all good no matter video or audio. But after about 30 mins, stream freeze. Refresh doesn't help, only get a black screen without any error message.
restart service or reboot my PC still the same. The only way to fix it is uninstall FMS and Install it again. HDS works again....but same problem happens after 30 mins or a couple of hours.
tried on 2 PC (Win7 x64 & x32) still the same.

I have a 720x576px clip (anamorphic), which I want to encode into a flv with the right aspect ratio (720x405px). In the new flash media encoder, you have three settings.
- Scale to fit
- Black borders
- Change output size
But none of those settings allows me to stretch the video to the right aspect ratio, I always get the file with 720x405, but black borders left and right.

I'm having some problems on some systems (seems to affect mostly 64-bit systems) where videos streamed from Flash Media Server 3.5 doesn't start from the beginning. I'm using NetStream.Buffer.Full to detect when the video starts. Usually this works ok, but sometimes the video doesn't skips a couple of seconds from the beginning even though the value of NetStream.time property is 0 when this happens.

I'm trying to get the id3 information from an mp3 being streamed from FMS.I followed the samples I found online and am using the following client-[code]As a note the above code works fine to play the actual file (substituting mp3: for id3:, of course) it just doesn't seem to trigger the onID3 method (I've tried onId3 which is what the samples use).I am also able to view the id3 information from windows explorer and other external readers.The platform I'm ultimately targeting is Flash Lite 3.1 AS2, but I've tried various configurations and haven't had any success.
