On my other topic about xml for loops. Creating multiple xml driven textfields out of one movieclip and place them below each other. Since the movieclip (which includes the xml driven textfields) is exported for actionscript and doesn't exist on the stage, how can I add a scrollbar in order to scroll all the dynamically generated text together like it was inside a movieclip on the stage?

I've got a flash document using AS3. It dynamically reads data from an XML file, and creates a bunch of single line textFields. Could be like this:

<Line>this is line 1</Line>
<Line>this is line 2</Line>
<Line>this is line 3</Line>
</XMLdata>
So, for each node, it would create a new TextField, and change the textField.y value so that they are "stacked" on top of each other.
All this if fine, except that if you hae so many "lines" (or textfields) that the "stack" is taller than the Flash Document size. What I would like to do is have a scroll bar or something so you can scroll the stack of TextFields. Doesnt' even need to be a scroll bar. Maybe an arrow button at the bottom, and when you click on it, it scrolls down. One for up too.
I bought a flash site template that loads xml driven swfs inside the main swf as different menu items are clicked. The modules that come with the template work fine, but I don't know how to add a third party xml driven swf, so that it shows up properly. While the third party swf works fine as a standalone, the embedded version loads just an empty movie.
View 4 RepliesI'm using a for loop and creating multiple textfields in that, that populate with variables from an aspx page.My issue is that no matter what I do I cannot get all these fields to datapage or scroll, I place them in another movie clip, and assign them to that clip, and I can scroll the background contents of the clip but not the dynamic fields.All the scrollbar tutorials for textfields are based on single textboxes or graphics. What can I do to get all the generated fields to scroll inside the stage area?The function of this is to pull from a database of flights that gets updated, and allow the user to select and view what times/dates etc. are available.

I'm using AS3 and FlashVars to pass info from the page into the SWF to write content into a TextField. The whole process is actually using ASP to pull info from the URL and write it into the FlashVars field which in turn gets put into the TextField.I'ts working great.I've got the formatting and positioning and everything looking and functioning just how I want.My only problem is I'm a bit of an AS3 newbie and for the life of me I can't figure out how to use 2 different Variables to create 2 different TextFields.

I have a format for my text that takes care of font, colour, and size, but looking for an easy way to do the width and height of textfields to increase all at the same time.I have been informed about a "with" keyword that may work but do not understand how to implement this within my program and essentially want to shorten my results class if possible.
View 2 RepliesOutside a loop, I have created a text format object, and then inside a loop I go through a number of iterations of a textfield object. When I declare the var for the textfield inside the loop, as well as its affiliation with the text format object, nothing displays. If I declare the var for the textfield outside the loop, it displays without issue, however, it only displays the last iteration of the loop (obviously). Why can't I have multiples textfield objects using the same styling?

View 2 RepliesI want to have each text identified as marketLocation1, marketLocation2, etc up to 150 and I wanted to use a 'for loop' to place the value of that XML node into each labeled textfieldHowever, the only issue is... each individual text field is buried inside a button so that the button displays on mouseover an associated XML fields data.Meaning, I mouse over a dot on a map (button) and it pulls up a statistics balloon about that location specific to our companies needs. I'm a total AS3 noob, so I'm not sure if I should be calling to the XMLdata loaded for a specific set of values on entry to that mouseover, or if I can preload the data for that button into it's specific text fields.Specifics are for the xml/flash file

I have two text fields, textL and textR, that read like a book with a specific height and width. Currently I have the external .txt/.php set up variables for each page. Example of book.txt :Code:&page1=Hi this is page one.&page2=And this is page two.I am looking for ideas on how to approach using just one variable which is split at the absolute end of textL with the rest of the variable or string loading into textR. Basically, automating the split of the text when it runs out of space in each field.

I've managed to actually create TextFields based on the array.length - however afterwards I dont know how to reference them individually, to lets say re-position x, y for array[1]. I've tried saving the Textfields in another array by .push method, but can't seem to reference them correctly.

I have created a dynamic text box, made itscrollable and added a scroll bar. I have entered my text and now want to set off a quote from the person making the statement so I want to make the person's name italics. However, when I highlight the text (it is on a separate line) and click italics - all of the text turn to italics. Is there a way just to have one line in a different font?

i am loading some thumbnails from an xml file into a movieclip using attachMovie() - each thumbnail loaded is in it's own MC inside the 'container' MC. everything works great but i need to be able to scroll the thumbnails b/c the number of thumbnails can change but the space they have to fit into cannot. make sense? if attach them to a scrollpane or a textarea instead of a MC it only shows the last thumnail loaded or iterated in the for loop.

I have been scripting this flash profile card which pulls data from multiple XML files. The problem i am having is when it comes down to pulling this 1 set of information which is accessing the attributes of an array of specific XML nodes on display after the first item it inputs a comma before each item.

I am loading a different external SWF into each one using Load External SWF behavior.Although each SWF is a different file, they are exact copies of each other (have exact same functionality); all 3 are text boxes with both scrollbar scrolling and mousewheel scrolling.Problem is, when on the stage at the same time, they all three respond to mousewheel scroll at the same time. I need them each to respond to users' mousewheel scroll only if the mouse is over the respective area (so that way they don't all scroll at the same time).The file was developed for me and the developer is not available at this time.

I wrote a short AS program to create a tileList and it functions fine, but I need to be able to scroll the list of pics according to the position of the mouse with out actually moving the scroll bar.... example of what I mean: the farther to the right mouseX is on stage, the faster my tileList scrolls to the right, if mouseX moves to the left of the stage, so does the scroll bar...Here`s my code so far:

View 3 RepliesI've gotten to chapter 5 in my AS 3.0 classroom book but I need to use wisdom today (CHAPTERS before I gain it for myself),I need to create a custom scroll bar with buttons that function just like the UIScrollBar but more visually suited to our projects. the boss demands it.
I found several tutorials on creating the custom scrollBar, however, they don't include the buttons and I'm unable to find a tutorial on how to create a button scroller (I figured I could link them both to my "info_txt" after creating them separately).

I just made a scroll area with buttons and draggable items. All the code is written for vertical scrolling, the content I need to be scrolled is going to be horizontal. how can I rewrite this code to be horizontal scrolling? it seems like the scroll button (the one you drag along) doesn't stay confined to its scroll line either.

scroll pane loads scroll bars for the movie clip as soon as it loads the movie clip, so there is no scroll bars the movies height and width are one, but after its loaded it changes its size to bigger than the scroll pane, but the scroll bars dont show up because of the size of the movie clip when it was first loaded, can anyone help?
