ActionScript 3.0 :: How To Target Nested MovieClip In FLV Component

Mar 31, 2009

I have a video player that's control bar's x & y are over the top of the video. It is set to alpha 0, and when the user rolls over the video the control bar's alpha goes to 1 and becomes visible. I have a few even listeners and a function that makes this happen. My issue is that the buffer handle and the volume handle do not go to alpha 0, despite the fact that their parents do. The instance of "volumeHandle" is the child of "volumeSlider". "volumeSlider" does go to alpha 0, then to alpha 1 on rollover, but it's child "volumeHandle, is always visible. The same applies to the respective instances of the buffer bar.

I have tried
volumeHandle.volumeSlider.alpha = 0;
But that doesn't work. My guess is that the conflict lies in the linkage of the controls for the buffer and volume handles.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Event.target And Nested Movieclips?

Sep 23, 2010

I have a bunch of movie clips in my main timeline with at least 2 nested clips inside them, MyMc.nested1.nested2 etc. I have given the top most movie clips that sit on the main timeline instance names. In a document class I created a private variable typed as an array and placed all those MC names in that array. I then looped through the length of the array and assigned 2 event listeners to each instance. Example:

for (var i:uint = 0 ; i < _activities.length ; i++){    _activities[i].buttonMode = true;    _activities[i].addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, pickUp);    _activities[i].addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, dropIt);}

in the event pickup() is were my trouble seems to come in.In the pickup function I have the following:

event.target.startDrag()

This seems to work, but only on the lowest nested Movie clip......nested2I can use event.target.parent.parent.startDrag() and that seems to work.... Except when I place another movieclip in the second layer of the of the MyMC , if that is accidently clicked, it will now drag the Stage.I attempted to use the event.target.mouseChildren = false but that only seems to work on the lowest nested object... nested2 as that seems to be the one I am clickingIs there something I am missing to say, click only the top level mc then ignore all nested mc?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Target Dynamic Nested MovieClips?

Sep 5, 2011

I have been working with AS2 for a long time, but are a total newbie when it comes to AS3.On my stage I have placed an empty MC with instance name "holder".In my library I got a MC linked by the name "sektor".

"sektor" has several movieclips and buttons with instance name, e.g. "corner1", "corner2", "corner3"....

I have nested "sektor" inside "holder" by writing this code:

Code:
var newClip:sektor = new sektor();
newClip.name = "sektor1";
holder.addChild(newClip);

What I want to achieve is to control those movieclips inside "sektor" by turning dem on/off.I have tried to do this with this code:

Code:
holder.sektor1.corner1.visible = false;
but I keep on getting this error:
"TypeError: Error #1010: A term is undefined and has no properties."

I have figured out that by tracing holder, I know its excisting (Result: [object MovieClip]) but if I try to trace holder.sektor1, I got the result "undefined". So it seems like "sektor1" is not excisting. Why?

I know how to make buttons but I need the garage door to become a button that when clicked the animation plays rather than it playing automatically.The top of the tool chest will be a button that plays the animation in reverse and the drawers are buttons that open to an email form for each.  But I don't know how to target these buttons because they are nested two levels below the main timeline.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Accessing (Nested) Component Properties From Class

Jul 29, 2009

(Actionscript 2 btw - and actually cs4, not that it really makes any difference?) I have a class that instantiates a movieclip from the library, e.g.:
Code:
debugbar:MovieClip = thing.AttachMovie("debugbar", "debugbar_mc", 999);
So attaching it to the where ever "thing" is - could be movie clip or level0 or whatever, doesn't matter as "debugbar" is a private variable of the class. Now the important part - debugbar in the library is a movieclip that contains some components - buttons and textInputs. The problem comes when trying to access these components.

I would have thought that this would work:
Code:
debugbar.input_txt.text = "hello";
In order to set the text of "input_txt", the instance name of a TextInput component on the timeline of the movie clip (put there in author time). However, this does not work. Infact, I cannot access any specific "component" properties - they come back undefined. I can however set and retrieve MovieClip properties for the "input_txt", such as _x. However there is one added strange thing with this too - setting _visible to false doesn't seem to work (however perhaps a component by default overrides this).

I also appear not to be able to add event handlers to the component - at least for the usual component events. I tried casting it to a component, such as:
Code:
var temp:TextInput = TextInput(debugbar.input_txt);
trace(temp);
which gave "temp" as null.
However if you trace the thing itself without casting to what it is, it gives the path to correctly. It almost seems like the components are somehow broken when trying to access them this way - or that they cannot be accessed this way?

The thing is, I was able to access all of this before, when the code to do it was placed on the timeline (frame 1, the only frame) of the debugbar itself, where the components were child instances. This meant I could just reference them directly too - so input_txt rather than debugbar.input_txt , although that is probably largely irrelevant. I need to have it in a class though, as I need to pass in certain objects that need to be accessed by the mc.

Flex :: Referencing Component IDs Within Modules, Nested Viewstacks?

Dec 23, 2010

The IDs for all tags in an MXML component, no matter how deeply nested they are, generate public variables of the component being defined. As a result, all id properties must be unique within a document. This also means that if you specified an ID for a component instance, you can access that component from anywhere in the application: from functions, external class files, imported ActionScript files, or inline scripts.

Which is fine if your application is all contained within one MXML, but I'm having trouble referencing IDs of components within Modules, and then inside ViewStacks/Navigation Containers within a given Module.

If I can reference a module with FlexGlobals.topLevelApplication.myModule, shouldn't I be able to reference a Panel called myModulePanel with the following?

Flex 3 :: Determine If An Event Target Is Descendant Of Component

Nov 19, 2010

I have a custom component with a couple of text input fields (among other things) that is used as the row components in a tree. I have had to write my own drag and drop handling, and have almost finished the start handler (which I did last), using mouseDown as the event to kick if off.It basically works, but when the tree is expanded enough so that a scroll bar shows, using the scroll bar drags a row of the tree at the same time ! Not the desired behaviour.Looking in the debugger, I can see that when a row of the tree is dragged the currentTarget is the tree itself, and the target is the textInput component. Looking at the parents of that component I can see my custom component (that contains the textInput) a couple of levels up.My question is, is there an easy way to determine if this target is descended from my component, so that I can initiate a drag only if that is the case ? event.target is doesn't work by the way.

Now, on clicking that component, I also want to do something to the parent canvas, I already have this working for more basic types (image, canvas, text, etc) but the problem with my component is that the click event has the internal image as the target, so what I want to happen to the outside canvas is happening to the canvas of the component. ActionScript 3.0 :: Target A Movieclip Within A Movieclip?

Jul 30, 2010

Its day 3 of learning AS3 for me. I cant seem to target a movieclip within a movieclip. I code with all my actions on the first frame of the root timeline and would like to continue this practice. But when I target the clip from the root my function wont run.

Here is my example:

Code:
wheel_mc.spinBackward_mc.buttonMode = true;
wheel_mc.spinForward_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, spinForward);
function spinForward(event:MouseEvent):void {

[code]....

Basically it wont gotoAndPlay("fadeIn") and I'm not sure why. So my question so I can move on in my AS3 learning is how to I target a movieclip with another movieclip, or is there another more proper way to do what I'm trying to achieve.

IDE :: Scale 9 On Nested Movieclip?

Jan 28, 2010

I'm trying to build a styled, rounded button movieclip that I can reuse/resize. So inside a movieclip, I have two layers:

Layer 1: A border, which is a shape - a rounded rectangle (or actually the stroke of a rounded-rect).

Layer 2: A nested movieclip which contains a shape for the face of the button. I have added filters to this nested movieclip to give it a beveled-type look - typical rounded button stuff.

So, I've tried applying scale-9 to the parent movieclip: in this case the border scales fine, but the face (with the filters) does not. So, then I tried applying scale-9 to both the parent and the nested face movieclip,I want to be able have the button self contained as a clip which I can pull from the library, drop on the stage, and scale without distortion - and so far, as mentioned,I can't figure out how the get the nested face, the one with the filters applied, to scale appropriately.

ActionScript 3.0 :: How To Get Nested MovieClip To Play

Aug 31, 2010

I'm having a problem trying to get some nested movie clips to play. I have three movie clips on three different layers all on frame one of the parent layer. each layer has a labIe (well just call it "layer1", "layer2. "layer3") I have a stop command on the parent level (on its own layer). each of the three movie clips has its own animation (the nested animation). The lower two have a stop command in their first frame(nested) so they wont play. Only the top movieclip would play on run. I want to place a gotoandplay command in the nested timeline of the above movie, that will start to play the next lower movie clip nested timeline, as the above one is ending, and repeat this process to cylce back around to the top movieclip. The overall goal is to have one animation move into the other using nested timeline smoothly.
