ActionScript 3.0 :: "Invalid Sound" Madness With An External Preloader

I've just made a preloader, which is a separate file that loads the main movie. When I try to compile the preloader, I get: ArgumentError: Error #2068: Invalid sound. All the code for the streaming sounds is contained in the main movie, and when I compile the main movie directly it finds all the sounds and plays them with no problem. It's only when I try to compile the preloader that I get the problem. Here's the relevant stuff from the main movie:

I've attached a sound to menu buttons using AS. The sound worked perfectly until I created a external preloader file to load the swf into a container_mc. Now no button sound? If I load the swf without the preloader file the sound works?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Sounds And Preloaders - Error "Invalid Sound"

So I have this preloader and some sounds I want loaded before the game starts. I have tried the standard 3 frame trick with the first frame containing the preloader graphics, the second frams containing an Asset holder movieclip (which contains all of the library symbols) and a 3rd frame that loads up after the preloader is done. All the library symbols except the preloader have "Export to first frame" unchecked.

Here's my problem. I have the sounds placed in the AssetHolder movieclip (on separate frames for accessibility). When the game loads and I click the keys that should trigger the sound, I get an error saying "Invalid sound". However when I check the "Export to first frame" box of the sound files, they work fine in game but load up before the preloader. Also, most of the graphic symbols are arranged manually on the stage in different frames. They aren't added to the stage via code. Would I even need an Assetholder type movie clip when they already exist in the timeline?

it's a scrolling list with a series of movieclips within it which are each different items. When you click one of the items, that movieclip that you have clicked runs a little function which tells it to move 10 pixels to the right smoothly. It also checks to see if any of the other movieclips have been previously selected, and if they have, it runs a function that tells them to move back 10 pixels to the left.

I have a combo box that has an array of fonts loaded into them, not here is my problem. For some reason, when i select the fonts in the array, some of them change and some of them dont. I have created font symbols like instructed in the live docs, but i dont get why they arent showing up.i.e. I have 7 fonts loaded into this combo box and i can select Arial Bold and my text field will show the text in arial bold, but when i select hobo, i get some substitute!here's my code, maybe you guys will see something i haven't.

Has anyone got an angle on the interference that linkage can create when the "export in first frame" option is ticked? I am using attachSound and the sound object to load an mp3 but it is wreaking havoc with the preloader.If I uncheck the "export in first frame" box the sound does not seem to be instantiated. I believe that a way around this is to drag the sound onto the stage, but if you have 8 sounds for buttons for example, then you would have to create 8 sound layersMy preloader code is:

i have this ongoing problem that nobody seems to be able to help me with and i'm new to flash: i have an swf that is heavily audio based. all of the audio is triggered through actionscript, which means it is linked in the library and to be exported on first frame. this swf is then being loaded into a movie clip (content_mc) on the _root timeline. to my knowledge linked audio and components are actually loaded previous to first frame which means that audio loads first then preloader kicks in. and this defeats its purpose
How can i get a preloader to be general, working in a movieclip not the _root, while solving this audio/component loading problem?

i imported some sound into my movie, and since doin that my preloader only shows when its about 60% percent done, any one know how to make it show from the start?also my sound controls are contain in a movie clip wich slides down when u roll over, using hit tests, when u lower the volume down it works fine, but when the controls slide back up, and then u roll over again the volume is the same, but the slider is back at the top, any ideas?

my preloader music now fades out as the progress bar completes (the preloader code is below with the new code in bold). However, the new code added to the preloader seems to be affecting the sound in the main swf (the bigger swf that the preloader loads - 'lesson.swf' - which is a series of exercises).

The exercises in the main swf have sound cues for right and wrong answers. The first time the main swf loads, there is no sound at all in the exercises. If I navigate to another page of the website and come back to the exercises, the sound is normal. But if I navigate to another page and come back a third time, the sound is audible, but reduced in volume. If I keep switching off the page and back to the page, the sound varies from no sound to full sound to about half the full volume.

Is it possible that the code on frame 2 of the preloader, the code that sets the volume for the preloader music, is also applying to the main swf, so that whatever point the preloader progress bar gets to before the main swf loads becomes the volume of the main swf? The first time the preloader runs, the progress bar goes all the way from left to right and the sound volume fades to zero. Then the volume in the main swf is zero. The next time the preloader runs, it only gets a little way across before the exercises come up, and the sound in the exercises is full volume. Is there a way to fix this? I should add that if I comment out the new code that fades out the preloader music, all the sound works normally.

I am working on controls for an external swf. The external swf loads an external sound file. The structure at the moment is extswf.swf contains mcSound which loads soundfile.mp3. extswf.swf automatically starts playing when invoked. movieController contains the icons for the play/pause buttons. This is assigned CntlClass. CntlClass loads extswf.swf and controls the play and pause buttons.

So far, the play and pause buttons stop and start and stop the movie but not the sound. I know I need to access the sound channel from the external swf and use the sound transform to change the volume. How to access that channel is unknown. The examples I find have imbedded sound files. Also, the examples seem to use the main class for the external swf. My external swf doesn't have a class file, so I have no idea what the main class would be.

In trying to activate the remainder of the pause button, I find that using MovieClip(loader.content).channel.position always returns 0. I've tried numerous other combinations to access the position of the sound for the play function to resume correctly. The visual part of extswf.swf stops and starts exactly as it should.

AS3 :: External Preloader Won't Work

I'm trying to create a preloader for a site I am creating. Originally I was going to make it an internal preloader, but I ran into that issue where the preloader doesn't start until 50% (or more). After searching these forums for a solution to "that" issue, I found it suggested that the best way to fix it is simply do an external preloader instead.

When testing the preloader using the bandwidth editor, I see that the preloader animation isn't starting now until it's at 100%, instead I simply get a white screen. Once it reaches 100% the preloader animation runs through and then...nothing. My main.swf doesn't load. It just stops.

preloader is my movieclip with the animation, and preloader.loading_txt is a textbox inside that mc which displays the % loaded. I wanted to make it so that once the preloader (and its animation) reach 100%, the preloader mc then plays frames 101 - 124 (which are a small transition animation into the main site). Once it reaches 124 it's supposed to call the main.swf to load.

I have been trying to create from scratch and/or use SpinningPreloaderComponent to create a preloader for a SWF that loads an external flv in frame 2.What seems to be happening is that The preloader exists for about 5 seconds and then jumps to frame 2 and continues to load without the progress meter. Although I've tried to use bytes total or default settings, nothing seems to work correctly.So I'm wondering if this problem is created because the preloader can't measure the flv size? Also wondering if it is possible to start playing the flv at say load of 20% as a buffer rather than 100%. I have also set the flv as progressive when trying to insert it directly via Dreamweaver CS5 but all I get is a blank screen.

I'm new to the forum and I am a student at TAFE in Sydney. We have a project which I've managed to get together OK, 5 page Flash site (SWF's) one main template page with bk'gnd, banner and menu bar and 4 other swf's that load into the main one with their own content and they all load images and external dynamic text with css. The site is working perfectly, WOW wat a headspin, lol.

Now I'm stumped, the next part of the project is to make a preLoader for the site and I haven't got a good understanding of how to set one up. I've watched some tutorials but can't quite get it to happen. tried a couple of different ways and I have a project with a perloader in it but I can't seem to get it to work.

The preLoader has to have a progress bar and it works in the other project. I've tried making that preloader work but don't quite know how to set it up. My understanding of the preLoader is that it loads images into the browser before everything else and the progress bar shows the progress of the downloading images and I think the preloader I have done would suffice if I knew how to set it up properly.

I have a preloader for an external swf with the following code.

but when I play the main movie & click on my button for this external swf to load, it loads the main movie again. I need the preloader to load the new external swf. I understand it is because of the _root appearing at 3 places. But I dont know what to replace that with.

why my buttons don't work every time I put a preloader on my external swf? It just reloads the page[URL] click on about us.. you'll see what I'm talking about.. the others will work, but there isnt a preloader so it takes a second to load the other pages.
